  • A new bearing concept, the wave journal bearing, has been developed to improve the static and dynamic performance of a hydrodynamic journal bearing. This concept features a wave in bearing surface. Not only straight but also twisted wave journal bearing are investigated numerically. The performances of straight and twisted bearings are compared to a plain journal bearing over a wide range of eccentricity. The bearing load and stability characteristics are dependent on the geometric parameters such as the number of waves, the amplitude and the start point of the wave relative to the applied load direction. The wave journal bearing, especially for the twisted one, offers better stability than the plain journal bearing under all eccentricity and load orientation.

  • In this paper, building energy analysis and energy cost of power stand up and demand control over the power proposed to reduce power demand. Through analysis of the load power demand special day were able to apply the pattern. In addition, the existing rate of change of load forecasting to reduce the large errors were not previously available data. And daily schedules and special day for considering the exponential smoothing methods were used. Previous year's special day and the previous day due to the uncertainty of the load and the model components were considered. The maximum demand power control simulation using the fuzzy control of power does not exceed the contract. Through simulation, the benefits of the proposed energy-saving techniques were demonstrated.

  • A link voltage adjustment converter employing load power estimator for notebook computer adaptor is proposed. It is consisted of the boost converter as a power factor correction stage and the LLC resonant converter as a DC/DC conversion stage with a newly introduced link voltage adjustment method employing load power estimator, which helps to reduce the transformer size and peak of output voltage ripple, maintaining high efficiency over all the load condition. Experimental results with 85W converter are given to verify the validity of the proposed circuit.

  • The reinforced concrete column confined by square steel tubes(RCST) is a reinforced column (RC) confined by thin steel tubes which cover over the full length of the column but terminates 15mm from the column's ends. The steel tube is in uniaxial tension stress state and won't buckle when the column sustains axial load. This will highly increase the bearing capacity and ductility of the columns. The hysteretic behavior of four square RCST columns and one square RC column were experimentally studied under constant axial load and lateral cyclic load. The wide-to-thickness (D/t) ratio of RCST columns employed in this research is 75. The main variables of the experiment were axial load ratio and compressive strength of the concrete. Based on the findings in this research, RCST columns exhibits high lateral strength, ductility, and energy dissipation ability.

  • MMORPG enables thousands of players to play in an evolving virtual world at the same time over the internet. So, the load of this kind of games is heavier than that of any other precedents. One of load balancing methods is map-partition to divide the load of entire system which is vulnerable to delay message between clients and servers. In this paper, we propose a game architecture using MigAgent to help migration of player character between field servers and to reduce message traffic between clients and field servers.

  • A novel loading mechanism of wedge roller type has been developed. This type traction drive has long system life and high efficiency by changing the pre-load on a contact point. And this loading mechanism does not need precision machining. So it has, as opposed to the conventional loading mechanism, an advantage in saving manufacturing cost. In this paper, by analyzing pre-load generating mechanism, spring pre-load and the roller size are defined and the stress on the contact point by pre-load is calculated. On the basis of this analysis, the model of wedge roller type traction drive for the test is made and was carried out its performance test. It can transmit input torque up to 1.5 N m, with high efficiency over 91% up to 98%, with slip rate under 2.5%.

  • The technology of cloud computing is growing very quickly, thus it is required to manage the process of resource allocation. In this paper, load balancing algorithm based on honey bee behavior (LBA_HB) is proposed. Its main goal is distribute workload of multiple network links in the way that avoid underutilization and over utilization of the resources. This can be achieved by allocating the incoming task to a virtual machine (VM) which meets two conditions; number of tasks currently processing by this VM is less than number of tasks currently processing by other VMs and the deviation of this VM processing time from average processing time of all VMs is less than a threshold value. The proposed algorithm is compared with different scheduling algorithms; honey bee, ant colony, modified throttled and round robin algorithms. The results of experiments show the efficiency of the proposed algorithm in terms of execution time, response time, makespan, standard deviation of load, and degree of imbalance.

  • Anchors find their use in providing tie-back resistance for submerged footings, transmission towers, tunnels and ocean structures. Laboratory model teats were performed for the short-term net ultimate uplift capacity of a circular anchors with respect to various embedment depths and moisture content in saturated bentonite. The tests have been conducted with the anchor at two different moisture contents. Based an the model test results, empirical relationships between the net load, rate of strain, and time have been developed. Test results are as follows. 1) In creep tests for load versus ultimate uplift capacity, the displacement of plate anchors rapidly increases during the primary stage but thereafter becomes constant over a period of time. 2) Displacement increased with the increase of the sustain load and embedded ratio in soil. 3) If the load is less than or equal to 75% of the short-term ultimate uplift capacity, a complete pullout does not occur due to creep.

  • Many applications can be parallelized by using multicore platforms. We propose a load-balancing technique for parallelizing a whole application, whose first module (H.264) has data independency and whose second module (AES) has data dependency. Instead of distributing the first module symmetrically over the multi-core platform, we distribute the data-independent workload asymmetrically in order to start the data-dependent workload as early as possible. Based on the experimental results with a compression/encryption application, we confirm that the asymmetric load balancing can provide better performance than the typical symmetric load balancing.
