In recent year, desire and request fer micro automation are growing rapidly covering the whole range of the industry. This has been caused mainly by request of more accurate manufacturing process due to a higher density of integrated circuits in semiconductor industry. This paper presents a six d.o.f fine motion stage using magnetic levitation technique, which is one of actuating techniques that have the potential for achieving such a micro motion. There is no limit in motion resolution theoretically that the magnetically levitated part over a fixed stator can realize. In addition, it Is possible to manipulate the position and the force of the moving part at the same time. Then, the magnetic levitation technique is chosen into the actuating method. However, we discuss issues of design, kinematics, dynamics, and control of the proposed system. And a few experimental results fur step input are given.
In line with the goal of achieving a low carbon future, the Philippines made an aspirational target which aims to increase the total installed capacity coming from renewable energy (RE) to at least 20,000 MW by 2040. The country's RE sector has progressively advanced over the years following the enactment of its comprehensive RE Law in 2008. Among other RE technologies, solar achieved the highest installation growth from 2008 to 2018. The paper seeks to assess whether the Philippines' RE target by 2040 is achievable in terms of the current status and future outlook for RE. Major roadblocks that hamper RE development are identified and discussed, including some recommendations for policy-making and energy planning.

Setup Time Reduction is an important aspect of the Just-in-Time(JIT) and Zero Inventory(Zl) Concepts since it supports reductions in manufacturing lead times and inventories. It also enables small lot sizes and kanban systems implementation for material flow - achieving major improvements in production floor management. One concept fundamental to the pursuit of JIT production in Japan and other countries is adoption of a setup time reduction. This paper looks at the necessities of setup time reduction and the relations to machine utilization. By using an EOQ model for evaluate the effect of setup time reduction, we get the results that over 75 % reduction in setup time is obtain the desired results in the lot size reduction.

In bulk metal forming processes prediction of tool life is very important for saving production cost and achieving good material properties. Generally the service life of tools in metal forming process is limited to a large extent by wear, fracture and plastic deformation of tools. In case of hot and warm forging processes, tool life depends on wear over 70%. In this study finite element analyses are applied to warm forging and hot forging by adopting suggested wear model. By comparision of simulation and real profile of die, suggested model is verified
The Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) is an electrochemical device to convert chemical energy of a fuel into electricity at temperatures from about 600 to $1000^{\circ}C$. The SOFC offers certain advantages over lower temperature fuel cells, notably its ability to use CO as a fuel rather than being poisoned by it, and high grade exhaust heat for combined heat and power, or combined cycle gas turbine applications. This paper reviews the operating principle, materials for different cell and stack components, cell designs, and applications of SOFCs. Among all designs of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs), the most progress has been achieved with the tubular design. However, the electrical resistance of tubular SOFCs is high, and specific power output $(W/cm^2)$ and volumetric power density $(W/cm^3)$ low. Planar SOFCs, in contrast, are capable of achieving very high power densities.

A biofilter study was conducted by changing inlet concentration and residence time for the removal of gaseous benzene and ethylene. In addition, carbon dioxide produced from the biofilters was investigated. Over 96% of benzene was removed at the residence times of 2 and 4.3 min, and inlet benzene concentrations of 220∼300 ppm. The ethylene biofilter was capable of achieving ethylene removal efficiency as much as 100% at a residence time of 14 min, and inlet concentrations of 99∼290 ppm. At a steady state, the carbon dioxide of 409∼611 ppm was produced with an ethylene inlet concentration of 290 ppm. Most of benzene and ethylene were degraded at lower part of the biofilters where more microbial activity occurred.

The design flexibility and robustness have become key factors to handle various sources of uncertainties at the early phase of design. Even though designers are uncertain about which single values to specify, they usually have a preference for certain values over others. In the first and second reports of a four-part paper, a set-based design approach has been proposed for achieving design flexibility and robustness while capturing designer's preference, and its effectiveness has been illustrated with a simple vehicle side-door impact beam design problem. This report presents the applicability of the proposed design approach to the large-scale multi-objective design optimization with a successful implementation of real vehicle side-door structure design.
We present a 12.5-GHz interleaved bidirectional ultra-dense wavelength-division-multiplexing transmission over a conventional single mode fiber of 80 km achieving spectral efficiency as high as 0.8-bit/s/Hz. The beat-frequency-locking method is used to stabilize the channel frequency within $\pm$200 MHz error. To facilitate the identification of multiple beat frequency signals, we use a radio-frequency spectrum analyzer. The bidirectional transmission penalty is about 0.3 dB compared with the unidirectional transmission over the same fiber.

Video streaming services make up a large proportion of Internet traffic on both fixed and mobile access throughout the world. Adaptive streaming allows for dynamical adaptation of the bitrate with varying network conditions, to guarantee the best user experience. Adaptive bitrate algorithms face a significant challenge in correctly estimating the throughput as it varies widely over time. In this paper, we first evaluate the throughput estimation techniques and show that the method that we have used offers stable response to throughput fluctuations while maintaining a stable playback buffer. Then, we propose an adaptive bitrate scheme that intelligently selects the video bitrates based on the estimated throughput and buffer occupancy. We show that the proposed scheme improves viewing experience by achieving a high video rate without taking unnecessary risks and by minimizing the frequency of changes in the video quality. Furthermore, we show that it offers a stable response to short-term fluctuations and responds swiftly to large fluctuations. We evaluate our algorithm for both constant bitrate (CBR) and variable bitrate (VBR) video content by taking into account the segment sizes and show that it significantly improves the quality of video streaming.
Analyzing morphological evolution over a long period of time is deemed an effective way to identify problems occurring in the process of urban development, in addition to achieving a fundamental understanding of socio-cultural changes and growth rooted from the context. As far as the urban morphology is concerned, Hong Kong is characterized by its unique high-density and compact layout patterns, which have aroused the interest of a number of authors in the urban design domain. Whilst an increasing number of redevelopment projects in Hong Kong were criticized for ignoring and destroying the old urban fabric, there is a need for research to investigate the origins and changes of various urban patterns and their implications for society. By employing the theories and techniques of space syntax, this paper accordingly provides a morphological analysis based on the Wanchai District - a 'Segment-line' city, which particularly epitomizes various urban grids of Hong Kong and may have different implications for functional aspects. By axial-mapping the urban layouts of five stages of growth since 1842 and subsequently investigating their spatial and functional transformation over the past 170 years, this paper identifies a series of spatial characteristics underlying different grid patterns, as well as achieves a precise understanding of their ever changing relationship. Based on these understandings, this paper intends to provide valuable reference and guidance for upcoming spatial development in Hong Kong and other regions.
