  • In this paper, the origin, development and features of a Korean folding stool are studied. A folding stool is a piece of collapsible seating furniture with its legs crossed in the form of the letter "X" and no back attached. In China, the folding stool was introduced from the West around the second century A.D. The folding stool of Korea was influenced by that of China. It is known from the records that the king used the folding stool from the Three Kingdom period. During the Koryo period, Chosun period and the modern period, the folding stool was used to show the authority of the king and nobleman. The folding stool was also used at outside places such as a hunting ground, a ceremonial walk, a battlefield, a garden etc. due to its portableness. Buddha worship policy of Koryo period supported the usage of the folding stool for shanding (禪定) by ascetics of Buddhist temple, or aristocrats. In a contemporary period, the folding stool is continuously produced and used as one kind of a folding chair due to its functionality, movability, storability and efficient space utilization. This research will serve as a momentum to investigate the origin and development of the East Asian seating furniture culture, and contribute to the further study and manufacturing of Korean seating furniture.

  • A comparative investigation of fine structure of callus cells derived from tissue culture of Panax ginseng was made by electron microscope. Callus was consisted of large superficial cells and small inner zone cells derived from shoot apex tissue cultured for 16 weeks. Large superficial cells were contained the clusters of starch grains surrounded by a double plastid membrane. Especially, electron dense particles were deposited just inside and outside of plastid membrane and also deposited on mitochondria-like and endoplasmic reticulum-like structures. Crystalline body was also found in superficial cells. Small inner zone cells were characterized by presence of proplastids sheathed by short endoplasmic reticulum profiles. presence of spiral configuration of ribosomes and absence of crystalline body. Organ primordia was consisted of a dense cytoplasm and notable nucleate cells derived from nodal tissue cultured for 67 weeks. Proplastids containing starch grains and crystalline bodies were frequently observed; starch grains are of small quantity and does not form the clusters as in inner zone cells; hexagonal crystalline body itself does not have always limiting membrane. Remarkably. in a few cells of primordia, particles resembling the presumptive virus were observed mainly in condensed nuclear chromatin and also in cytoplasm, in mitochondrion-like organelle.

  • As life style changes, the demand for stacking chairs are increasing as the use of event halls or outside furniture where people gather in crowd is increasing. Early stacking chairs were mainly made to pile up a great amount and store, but in modern days it also has a decorative purpose. Besides, the development of various new materials and applied technology of furniture manufacture, the structure and design of stacking chair is becoming more interesting. Basically, according to the structure of the leg, the form and method of piling up is decided. The structure of the leg means the location of the leg connected to the seat, and according to the location, it can be piled up as upper, front, or rotational type. Such is the way how stacking chairs are classified according to the location of the leg, with its basis; the structure of stacking chair is reviewed. Now, chair for piling up is overcoming its simple function, which aesthetic beauty or arrangement of color after piling up is being considered. Also, according to storing, moving, and the place of use, various designs are demanded. As people's interest in stacking chair is increasing, various research regarding design should continue.

  • The purpose of this study is to extract design concepts, especially in relation to light, as a part of extracting design concepts in architectural interior design. This study consists of two steps. Firstly, appropriate design concepts are extracted from various design characteristics. Secondly, these concepts are classified in the frame of other components of architectural space, as well as in the frame of the plastic characteristics of light. Various design characteristics were analyzed, those of which relating to the plastic character of space, namely, visual phenomenon. As a result of the analysis, 32 concepts were extracted. These concepts, in the frame of other components of architectural space (space, form, structure, opening of space, material, color, inside & outside relationship), were classified, as well as In the frame of the plastic character of Light (transparency, perception, direction, ornament). As the results of this research, the suggested design concepts will be a study material, available to the interior designers as well as students who want to utilize the organized study concepts.

  • The energy efficiency of a self-powered wireless sensing system for pressure monitoring in injection molding is analyzed using Bond graph models. The sensing system, located within the mold cavity, consists of an energy converter, an energy modulator, and a ultrasonic signal transmitter. Pressure variation in the mold cavity is extracted by the energy converter and transmitted through the mold steel to a signal receiver located outside of the mold, in the form of ultrasound pulse trains. Through Bond graph models, the energy efficiency of the sensing system is characterized as a function of the configuration of a piezoceramic stack within the energy converter, the pulsing cycle of the energy modulator, and the thicknesses of the various layers that make up the ultrasonic signal transmitter. The obtained energy models are subsequently utilized to identify the minimum level of signal intensity required to ensure successful detection of the ultrasound pulse trains by the signal receiver. The Bond graph models established have shown to be useful in optimizing the design of the various constituent components within the sensing system to achieve high energy conversion efficiency under a compact size, which are critical to successful embedment within the mold structure.

  • This study examined the landscape characteristics of Daniel Libeskind's architecture by analyzing the perceived form characteristics visually and the sense of space recognized inside and outside the building in Daniel Libeskind architecture. The results showed that Libeskind is to deconstruct not only the 'temporal boundaries' but also the 'morphological contradiction' through sketch and public architecture by de-constructive language. These series of works could be interpreted as the space perceived time and space in the past by the 'Blurredness of temporal and spatial borderline'.

This study focuses on not only analyzing the worship and service program inherent in the site planning of local church but also introducing worship service space and chancel elements of it in the village of garden area. We surveyed five protestant churches where are located in suburban and rural area outside of Midlothian city in the early August, 2010. I surveyed church building site and worship service space of churches focused on platform design, interviewed the historical background and program of churches with ministers, and corrected annual calender and newsletter. The results of this study are as follows. First, the characteristics of site plan have a comfortable parking lots and site of churchyard(cemetery) with playground that can take an activities out of chapel. The axis of church building follows to front street. Second, worship services keep two types of traditional and comtemporary worship in order to consider of both adult and youth members. The worship hall has a balance of bilateral symmetry. Third, the form of platform is built that is able to perform a music drama and movement of sermon without only one church, GraceLand Church that church building has over fifty years, and they stick to simple traditional type of Chancel that is established by pulpit, table(altar), baptistery(only baptist church), music instruments, and so on.

  • The recent power systems are very complex and to model them completely is impractical for analysis of electromagnetic transient Therefore areas outside the immediate area of interest must be represented by some form of Frequency Dependent Network Equivalent (FDNE). In this paper a method for developing Frequency Dependent Network Equivalent (FDNE) using S-domain rational Function Fitting is presented and demonstrated. The FDNE is generated by Linearized Least Squares Fitting(LSF) of the frequency response of a S-domain formulation. This Three-port FDNE have been applied to the test AC power system. The electromagnetic transient package PSCAD/EMTDC is used to assess the transient response of the Three-port FDNE developed under different condition. The study results have indicated the robustness and accuracy of Three-port FDNE for analisys of electromagnetic transient and harmonic assessment.
