  • In this paper, we assume that an output sensor of a ball and beam system is coupled with AC measurement noise. We propose an output feedback controller for a ball and beam system under measurement noise of feedback sensor. Measurement noise makes feedback signals distorted, and results in performance degradation or even system failure. Therefore, we need to design a robust controller to accommodate the possible measurement noise in the feedback information. Our controller is equipped with a gain-scaling factor to minimize the effect of measurement noise in output feedback information. We give an analysis of the controlled system and illustrate the improved control performance via simulation and experiment for a ball and beam system.

  • This paper presents a study on the driveline output torque estimation using a discrete Kalman filter. The in-situ output shaft torque is first measured by a non-contacting magneto-elastic torque transducer. The linear state-space system equations are first derived and the discrete Kalman filter is designed based on the Kalman filter theory to recover the driveline output torque contaminated by random noises. In addition to using torque measurement, the estimation of the output torque using two angular velocities: the output and wheel, is also conducted. The experimental results show that the discrete Kalman filter can be effective for not only removing the random noise in output torque but also estimating the output torque without torque measurement.

  • The output voltage value of AC high voltage source has been usually measured by employing the high voltage divider of inductive or capacitive type. In the study, we have developed a new method for measuring the output voltage up to 60kV using parallel plates electrode and electric field sensor, which are constructed by home-made. Unlikely the conventional method using a high voltage divider, this developed method makes it possible to extend the range of output voltage from known low voltage measurement to high voltage measurement. From the linearity measured between electric field and applied voltage in the output voltage range of 1kV-30kV, the output voltage value up to 60kV can be obtained by the electric field measurement using the electric field sensor. The output voltage value obtained using the method is consistent with that obtained using high voltage divider within corresponding uncertainties.

  • We analyzed the relationship between the normal measurement of the seismic accelerometer (SA) and the error rate of the output voltage linear ratio to propose an evaluation method to determine whether the SA in use is measuring normally. Utilizing a test bed, the regular operation of SA in use was evaluated using acceleration data measured through impact tests since there are no regulations regarding performance testing of SA in use. For the used SA, the error rate of the output voltage linear ratio, which is a major performance criterion, was evaluated. We analyzed common characteristics of the SA that satisfied the impact test and the performance criteria of the output voltage linear ratio error rate. The results indicated that we must consider the decreasing trend and convergence of the error rate as the measurement angle increases, ensuring that the average value of the output voltage linear ratio error rate is within 1%.

  • In this paper, we developed a pressure measurement apparatus with the parallel structure to improve the measurement efficiency of pressure sensors by reducing the measurement time of pressure. The developed system has two parallel positions for loading Silicon pressure sensor and has a dual valve structure. The semiconductor pressure sensors prepared by Copal Electronics were used to confirm the performance of the developed measurement system. Two stage differential amplifier circuit was employed to amplify the weak output signal and the amplified output signal was improved utilizing a low-pass filter. New apparatus shows the measurement time of pressure two times shorter than that of conventional one with the serial structure, while both structures show the similar linear output versus pressure characteristics.

  • This paper presents a study on the system identification of the in-situ output shaft torque measurement system using a non-contacting magneto-elastic torque transducer installed in a vehicle drivline. The frequency response (transfer) function (FRF) analysis is conducted to interpret the dynamic interaction between the output shaft torque and road side excitation due to the road roughness. In order to identify the frequency response function of vehicle driveline system, two power spectral density (PSD) functions of two random signals: the road roughness profile synthesized from the road roughness index equation and the stationary noise torque extracted from the original torque signal, are first estimated. System identification results show that the output torque signal can be affected by the dynamic characteristics of vehicle driveline systems, as well as the road roughness.

  • In order to control the quality of X-ray images and patient exposure, it is necessary to document the output dose(air absorption dose(mGy)) output from the X-ray unit from the measurement. The purpose of this study is to find an equation that can calculate the output dose from the measurement of the output dose and output factor(Of) of the X-ray Unit. The output dose and output factors of the X-beam irradiated from the X-ray unit were measured using an XR multi-detector. The output dose calculation formula was obtained by fitting the measured output dose divided by the tube current-exposure time product(mAs) and the set tube voltage with Allometric1. The final output dose calculation formula was obtained by multiplying this formula with the output factor. It is considered that the obtained final output dose calculation formula will be useful for all tube voltages, tube currents, exposure times, field sizes, and distances.

  • PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to provide the method of how to measure the coefficient of thermal expansion of concrete using temperature compensation principle of electrical resistance strain gauge. METHODS : The gauge factor compensation method and thermal output(temperature-induced apparent strain) correction method of self-temperature compensation gauge were investigated. From the literature review, coefficient of thermal expansion measurement method based on the thermal output differential comparison between reference material(invar) and unknown material(concrete) was suggested. RESULTS : Thermal output is caused by two reasons; first the electrical resistivity of the grid conductor is changed by temperature variation and the second contribution is due to the differential thermal expansion between gauge and the test material. Invar was selected as a reference material and it's coefficient of thermal expansion was measured as $2.12{\times}10^{-6}m/m/^{\circ}C$. by KS M ISO 11359-2. The reliability of the suggested measurement method was evaluated by the thermal output measurement of invar and mild steel. Finally coefficient of thermal expansion of concrete material for pavement was successfully measured as $15.45{\times}10^{-6}m/m/^{\circ}C$. CONCLUSIONS : The coefficient of thermal expansion measurement method using thermal output differential between invar and unknown concrete material was evaluated by theoretical and experimental aspects. Based on the test results, the proposed method is considered to be reasonable to apply for coefficient of thermal expansion measurement.

  • For the digital control of systems such as grid-connected inverters, measuring inverter output currents accurately is essential. However, current measurement offsets are inevitably generated by current measurement paths and cause DC current components in real inverter output currents. Real inverter output currents with DC components cause the DC-link capacitor voltage to oscillate at the frequency of a utility voltage. For these reasons, current measurement offsets deteriorate the overall system performance. A compensation strategy to eliminate the effect of current measurement offsets in grid-connected inverters is proposed in this study. The validity of the proposed compensation strategy is verified through simulations and experiments. Results show that the proposed compensation strategy improves the performance of grid-connected inverters.
