Background: The method of measuring the walking function of patients with chronic stroke differs depending on patients walking capability and environmental conditions. Objects: This study aimed to demonstrate the influences of walking capacity and environmental conditions on the results of short- and long-distance walk tests in patients with chronic stroke. Methods: Forty patients with chronic stroke volunteered for this study, and allocated to group-1 (<.4m/s, household walking, $n_1=13$), group-2 (.4~.8m/s, limited community ambulation, $n_2=16$), and group-3 (>.8m/s, community ambulation, $n_3=11$) according to their walking capacity. The 10-meter walk test (10MWT) and 6-min walk tests, (6MWT) were used to compare the short- and long-distance walk tests results, which were randomly performed under indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. Results: The comparison of the results obtained under the indoor and outdoor conditions revealed statistically significant differences between the groups in the 6MWT and 10MWT (p<.05). Post-hoc tests' results showed significant differences between groups-1 and -2 and between groups-1 and -3 in the 10MWT, and between group-1 and -3 in the 6MWT. Furthermore, in group-2 the 10MWT and 6MWT results significantly differed between the indoor and outdoor conditions, and the values measured under the indoor and outdoor conditions significantly differed between 10MWT and 6MWT (p<.05). Group-3 showed a significant difference in 10MWT results between the indoor and outdoor conditions (p<.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that the results of the short- and long-distance walk tests may differ depending on the walking capacity of patients with chronic stroke and the environmental condition under which the measurement is made, and these effects were greatest for the patients with the limited community ambulation capacity.
Background: This study aims to derive the characteristics of each work type for industrial radiography based on empirical evidence through expert advice and a survey of radiation workers of various types of industrial radiography. Materials and Methods: According to a Korean report, work types of industrial radiography are classified into indoor tests, underground pipe tests, tests in a shielded room (radiographic testing [RT] room test), outdoor field tests, and outdoor large structure tests. For each work type, exposure geometry and radiation sources were mainly identified through the expert advice and workers' survey as reliable empirical evidence. Results and Discussion: The expert advice and survey results were consistent as the proportion of the work types were high in the order of RT room test, outdoor large structure test, underground pipe test, outdoor field test, and indoor test. The outdoor large structure test is the highest exposure risk work type in the industrial radiography. In most types of industrial radiography, radiation workers generally used 192Ir as the main source. In the results of the survey, the portion of sources was high in the order of 192Ir, X-ray generator, 60Co, and 75Se. As the exposure geometry, the antero-posterior geometry is dominant, and the rotational and isotropic geometry should be also considered with the work type. Conclusion: In this study, through expert advice and a survey, the external exposure characteristics for each work type of industrial radiography workers were derived. This information will be used in the reconstruction of organ dose for health effects assessment of Korean radiation workers.
For quantitative evaluation of wooden structures, the mechanical performance of members has undergone outdoor exposure tests. A year-long monitoring was conducted using an SPF species. Test groups were divided into twelve (each month) to measure the moisture content, density and ultimate load. Starting from May when moisture content of the test group was at the lowest, simple failure modes were observed more frequently during the first half of the experiment, whereas complex failure modes took over during the second half. Starting from June when moisture content of the test group was the highest, ultimate load decreased by 30% in the second half compared to the first half. A multiple regression analysis confirmed that moisture content of the test group was the variable with most effect on ultimate load of various outdoor variables, and an estimation equation of a simple regression analysis revealed that moisture content and ultimate load formed an inversely proportionate relationship. It is thought that correlational relationships of variables other than moisture content could be applied with the increase in added data amount by longer periods of outdoor exposure tests.

The biogas holder is composed of an outer membrane and an inner membrane which are subject to outdoor exposure and gas exposure respectively. The influence of weathering conditions on the photo-degradation of a biogas holder was investigated. Tests were performed under three different methods - outdoor exposure tests (Seosan, Arizona), accelerated tests (Xenon-are lamp) with the outer-membrane of biogas. Moreover, the changes in the aging process were monitored using color difference, gloss, the contact angle and an optical microscope. Changes in physical properties, such as decrease reduction in gloss, decrease in the contact angle, increase in color difference were observed in the aging process. The comparison between membrane 3B, 4B and membrane 5B under xenon-arc were discussed. Membrane 5B was very sensitive to ultraviolet (UV) ray. There were many difficulties in the outdoor exposure test due to acid rain, dust, and stain resistance.
Of high strength bolts, the torque shear type bolt is known to be clamped normally when pin-tails are broken. Sometimes the clamping loads on slip critical connections considerably fluctuate from the required tension due to variation of torque coefficient. This is why the viscosity of lubricant affects the torque coefficient by temperature. In this study, the clamping tests of high strength bolts were performed independently at laboratory conditions and at outdoor environment. The temperatures of outdoor environment candidates were ranged from $-11^{\circ}C$ to $34^{\circ}C$ for six years. The temperature at laboratory condition was composed from $-10^{\circ}C$ to $50^{\circ}C$ at each $10^{\circ}C$ interval. At outdoor environment conditions, the clamping load of high strength bolt was varied from 159 to 210 kN and the torque value was varied from 405 to 556 Nm. The torque coefficients at outdoor environment were calculated from 0.126 to 0.158 when tensions were measured from 179 to 192 kN by using tension meter. The torque coefficients at outdoor environment conditions were analyzed as the range from 0.118 to 0.152. From these tests, the diverse equations of torque coefficient, tension dependent to temperature can be acquired by statistic regressive analysis. The variable of torque coefficient at laboratory conditions is 0.13% per each $1^{\circ}C$ when it reaches 2.73% per each $1^{\circ}C$ at outdoor environment conditions. When the results at laboratory conditions and at outdoor environment were combined to get the revised equations, the change in torque coefficient was modified as 0.2% per each $1^{\circ}C$ and the increment of tension was adjusted as 1.89 % per each $1^{\circ}C$.
A series of outdoor tests were conducted on a fiber optic solar concentrator system for its performance on daylighting. The system is comprised of four main components - a parabolic dish reflector, a convex mirror, a homogenizer tube and an optical fiber cable. Results show that the system could be successfully applied for indoor lighting if some improvements are made for light transmiting (optical) cables. A maximum concentration ratio of 90 was observed delivering the illuminance of 4,800 lux at a distance of 1.2m from the diffuser for the outdoor illuminance of 102,100 lux.
Experimental equipments for long-term outdoor tests of EHV insulators in outdoor were constructed. The testing insulators have been energized with 89 [kV] phase-to-ground AC voltage under identical condition at station, and the investigation was carried out for leakage current and various environments such as temperature, relative humidity and wind velocity. The test results of leakage current wave trends have forms on distorted waves including harmonics. The porcelain and glass insulators have low leakage current in case of daytime because moisture and humidity have relative low values. In comparison with these conditions, high leakage current was shown at dawn and rainy day due to high humidity. However, leakage current of polymer insulators was shown approximately $129[{\mu}m]$ without relation to the weather due to hydrophobicity on their surface.
Natural(outdoor) and accelerated(artificial) weathering tests were performed to investigate their influence on polycarbonate. The polycarbonate materials were prepared of various formulations divided into three batches, with existing, development materials1, development materials2, containing mixture of UV additives. Weathering tests were carried out as outdoor weathering(Seosan, South Korea) and accelerated weathering(xenon-arc), and the results analysis were evaluated based on yellow-index(YI), scanning electron microscope(SEM/EDS), energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy(XRD), and gel permeation chromatography(GPC). Among the three materials, processing method development materials1 with UV stabilizer was excellent in weathering. This study can provide basic data for standardization of development and performance evaluation on livestock barn roof.
An outdoor free-running model test system was designed for assessing ship maneuverability with test uncertainty. The test model was a surface combatant of tumblehome hull geometry. The straight forward tests were conducted first to obtain the relationship between the propeller revolution rate and advance speed. During the outdoor tests, the propeller revolution rate to achieve a certain Froude number condition was higher than that in the indoor free-running model tests. Turning circle and zigzag tests for evaluating ship maneuverability criteria were carried out at the propeller revolution rate determined by the straight forward test results. The random and systematic standard uncertainties of maneuvering criteria were obtained by repeated tests and comparison with the indoor free-running model test results, respectively. The test uncertainty was largely dominated by the systematic standard uncertainty, while the random standard uncertainty was small with good repeatability.
This study analyzed the effects of science outdoor activity applying a Brain-Based Evolutionary (ABC-DEF) approach on elementary school students' interest and academic achievement. Samples of the study were composed of 3 classes of 67 sixth graders in Seoul, Korea. Unit of 'Ecosystem and Environment' was selected as a object of the research. Textbook- and teachers' guidebook-based instruction was implemented in comparison group, brain-based evolutionary approach within classroom in experimental group A, and science outdoor learning by a brain-based evolutionary approach in experimental group B. In order to analyze the quantitative differences of students' interests and achievements, three tests of 'General Science Attitudes', 'Applied Unit-Related Interests', and 'Applied Unit-Related Achievement' were administered to the students. To find out the characteristics which would not be apparently revealed by quantitative tests, qualitative data such as portfolios, daily records of classroom work, and interview were also analyzed. The major results of the study are as follows. First, for post-test of interest, a statistically significant difference between comparison group and experimental group B was found. Especially, the 'interests about biology learning' factor, when analyzed by each item, was significant in two questions. Results of interviews the students showed that whether the presence or absence of outdoor learning experience influenced most on their interests about the topic. Second, for post-test of achievement, the difference among 3 groups according to high, middle, and low levels of post-interest was not statistically significant, but the groups of higher scores in post-interest tends to have higher scores in post-achievement. It can be inferred that outdoor learning by a brain-based evolutionary approach increases students' situational interests about leaning topic. On the basis of the results, the implications for the research in science education and the teaching and learning in school are discussed.
