  • In this paper, two kinds of digital predistorters are proposed and their performances are analyzed in order to minimize ACI and SNR degradation caused by nonlinearly amplified TC-16QAM signal and to transmit high speed data in power and bandwidth limited land mobile satellite channel. Our simulation results show that LUT predistorter reduces the out-of-band ACI more efficiently as compared to intersymbol interpolated predistorter. Regarding the reduction of in-band SNR and total power intersymbol interpolated predistorter outperforms LUT predistorter. In the simulation mobile satellite channel and nonlinear HPA are modeled by Rician channel and Fujitsu SSPA, respectively.

  • It is important to design the high-speed communication system in the hostile channel. Due to the frequency diversity, FD-OFDM that can be used for the high-speed communication is more robust to the noise or interference than ordinary OFDM. However, even the FD-OFDM becomes degraded in th ε strong narrow band interference channel. In this paper, we propose an AFD-OFDM system and analyze the communication performances in order to find out the more robust communication system in the hostile channel. So, the AFD-OFDM system can cover the drawback of the FD-OFDM and improve the BER performance than FD-OFDM. From the simulation results, FD-OFDM shows better performance than the ordinary OFDM. Furthermore, AFD-OFDM shows more excellent performance than FD-OFDM in the strong narrow interference channel.

  • Frequency resource value is growing more and more with the development of the wireless communication. With the advent of the current information society comes a serious shortage of frequency resource, as the amount of supply is far from meeting its demands. Thus, cognitive radio (CR) technique is receiving more attention as a way to make use of the temporarily unoccupied frequency resource. In this paper we propose a novel out-of-band spectrum sensing and dynamic channel access scheme for frequency hopping-based cognitive radio ad-hoc networks. At the beginning of each current channel hopping time, member nodes perform spectrum sensing for the next hopping channel. Based on the proposed collision free primary detection notification, member nodes can determine whether they should execute a hopping time extension procedure of the current channel or not. When the primary detected hopping channel is re-idled, the hopping pattern recovery procedure is performed. In this paper we evaluated the performance of the proposed dynamic sensing and hopping channel extension mechanism for the various wireless network conditions. As a result, we show that the proposed method can increase channel utilization and provide reliable channel management operation.

  • Recently, as the down-scailing of field-effect transistor devices continues, Schottky-barrier field-effect transistors (SB-FETs) have attracted much attention as an alternative to conventional MOSFETs. SB-FETs have advantages over conventional devices, such as low parasitic source/drain resistance due to their metallic characteristics, low temperature processing for source/drain formation and physical scalability to the sub-10nm regime. The good scalability of SB-FETs is due to their metallic characteristics of source/drain, which leads to the low resistance and the atomically abrupt junctions at metal (silicide)-silicon interface. Nevertheless, some reports show that SB-FETs suffer from short channel effect (SCE) that would cause severe problems in the sub 20nm regime.[Ouyang et al. IEEE Trans. Electron Devices 53, 8, 1732 (2007)] Because source/drain barriers induce a depletion region, it is possible that the barriers are overlapped in short channel SB-FETs. In order to analyze the SCE of SB-FETs, we carried out systematic studies on the Schottky barrier overlapping in short channel SB-FETs using a SILVACO ATLAS numerical simulator. We have investigated the variation of surface channel band profiles depending on the doping, barrier height and the effective channel length using 2D simulation. Because the source/drain depletion regions start to be overlapped each other in the condition of the $L_{ch}$~80nm with $N_D{\sim}1\times10^{18}cm^{-3}$ and $\phi_{Bn}$ $\approx$ 0.6eV, the band profile varies as the decrease of effective channel length $L_{ch}$. With the $L_{ch}$~80nm as a starting point, the built-in potential of source/drain schottky contacts gradually decreases as the decrease of $L_{ch}$, then the conduction and valence band edges are consequently flattened at $L_{ch}$~5nm. These results may allow us to understand the performance related interdependent parameters in nanoscale SB-FETs such as channel length, the barrier height and channel doping.

  • The directional medium access control (MAC) protocol improves the throughput of mobile ad hoc networks but has a deafness problem and requires location information for neighboring nodes. In the dual-channel directional MAC protocol [12], the use of omnidirectional packets does not require the exact location of destination node. In this letter, we propose a tone dual-channel MAC protocol with directional antennas to improve the throughput of mobile ad hoc networks. In the proposed MAC protocol, we use a directional CTS and an out-of-band directional DATA tone with a new blocking algorithm to improve the spatial reuse. We confirm the throughput performance of the proposed MAC protocol by computer simulations using the Qualnet simulator.

  • In this paper, we investigate the performance of MMR system in Non-transparent mode. The IEEE 802.16j MMR system has two node of operation, Single-frame (in band) and Multi-frame (out band) mode. In the analysis, we assume that channel interference between MR-BS and RS, or between RSs anywhere in the given area is ignored. The performance is presented in terms of the delay and the frame efficiency by varying number of RS and BS coverage to RS coverage ratio and the maximum coverage area of a BS by varying traffic density. Analytical results show that the Single-frame is more efficient than Multi-frame in frame efficiency and coverage extension.

  • The error rate equation of FH/MFSK signal of repeated diversity received over m-distribution fading channel with partial-band interference has been derived and the error rate has been evaluated to show in figures as a function of signal to noise ratio, signal to interference ratio, fading figure, repeated number, partial-band interference fraction and power correlation coefficient between signal and interference. In this paper, we assumed that repeated diversity technique is used in transmitter against fading occurred in mobile radio channel. By comparing the error rate performance in diversity against fading and the obtainable degree of improvement of error performance with diversity technique has been found out. From the result, it is known that error rate performance deteriorates more as $\rho$ becomes small i.e., the partial-band interference gives more effect on error performance than full-band interference. Also when the values of $E_b/N_1$ and $\rho$ are small. as depth of fading diversity technique.

  • This paper provides an approach for representing an optimum vector quantizer by a scalar nonlinear gain-plus-additive noise model. The validity and accuracy of this analytic model is confirmed by comparing the calcuated model quantization errors with actual simulation of the optimum Linde-Buzo-Gray(LBG) vector quantizer. Using this model we frm MSE measure of an M-band filter bank codec in terms of the equivalent scalar quantizatin model and find the optimum FIR filter coefficients for each channel in the M-band structure for a given bit rate, given filter length, and given input signal correlation model. Specific design examples are worked out for 4-tap filters in the two-band paraunitary case. These theoretical results are confirmed by extensive Monte Carlo simulation.
