  • The inverse Weibull distribution (IWD) can be readily applied to a wide range of situations including applications in medicines, reliability and ecology. It is generally known that the lifetimes of test items may not be recorded exactly. In this paper, therefore, we consider the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) and Bayes estimation of the entropy of a IWD under generalized progressive hybrid censoring (GPHC) scheme. It is observed that the MLE of the entropy cannot be obtained in closed form, so we have to solve two non-linear equations simultaneously. Further, the Bayes estimators for the entropy of IWD based on squared error loss function (SELF), precautionary loss function (PLF), and linex loss function (LLF) are derived. Since the Bayes estimators cannot be obtained in closed form, we derive the Bayes estimates by revoking the Tierney and Kadane approximate method. We carried out Monte Carlo simulations to compare the classical and Bayes estimators. In addition, two real data sets based on GPHC scheme have been also analysed for illustrative purposes.

  • To investigate the effects of solvent extraction on electrical properties of LDPE, charge distribution, electrical conduction, and FT-IR experiments are carried out for three kinds of LDPE which are same for melt index (MI) and density. The effects of short chains for the charge distribution are quite different. For the electrical conduction, the electrical conduction mechanism remains unchanged, as the solvent extraction temperature is increased.

  • Analysis has been carried out to investigate the temperature variation and the uniformity of the temperature distribution of the glass panel by infrared radiant heating. Halogen lamps are used to heat the panel and located near the top and bottom of the rectangular chamber. The thermal energy is transfered only by radiation and the radiation exchange occurs only on the solid surfaces and is considered by using the view factor. The results show that the uniformity of the temperature distribution of the panel is improved but the time for heating increases as the wall reflectivity is large. The temperature difference reaches a maximum in the early stage of the heating process and then decreases until it reaches the uniform steady-state value.

  • As the dot-com companies realize the importance of the traditional business operations such as product distribution and sourcing, the task of balancing business strategy and operations between electronic commerce and"bricks St mortar"channels is an ongoing challenge. However, there are no generic recipes for formulating business strategy that optimally bridges the physical and virtual operations. In order to provide some guidelines, this study examines the big 3 retailers in Korea, and their"clicks & mortar"strategy, assessing how the activities of each channel are integrated to achieve the synergy effect. This study analyzes the differences in the pattern of integration among the three retailers and traces the causes of those differences. It also figures out the relationship between the degree of integration and performance variables such as growth and cost. Finally. it defines the essential constraints on the process of integration along with managerial implications.

  • Purpose - This study aims to find out what impacts large retailers' behaviors appearing when they promote the strengthening of their market dominating power in the trade relations with small and medium suppliers or in the market can have on consumers. Research design, data, methodology - This study analyzed negative information (news) on large retailers (Lotte Mart, E-Mart and Homeplus) based on the monthly data over the past five years from 2008 to 2012 and also analyzed the correlation between dependent variables that are likely to affect sales through large retailer economic index, Results - This study conducted a correlation analysis on the time lag of the factors that have an impact on the negative information and sales of large retailers in order to analyze how consumers respond to the choice of large retailers' store (store sales) when they perceived negative information about the un- ethical behaviors of large retailers. Conclusions - Unfair and negative information on large retailers appeared significant for the hypothesis that sales will be affected by the image of large retailers and change of consumer attitudes.

  • An experimental study for the improvement of combustion air distribution in the exit of burner windbox is carried out. Since the distribution of combustion air in the burner directly affects the stability and the shape of flame, it should be as uniform as possible. Furthermore multi-burner windbox should be designed to supply the suitable quantity of combustion air for each burner. For these purposes, thin splitting plates are installed in the windbox, which make the flow control and setup the circumferentially uniform pressure field at each windbox exit. The effect of splitters on the velocity distribution of combustion air is investigated by the use of a small sized two-burner windbox model having a dynamical similarity to the prototype. Even though not the best one, a configuration of splitters which seems to give a practically useful result is suggested.

  • In this paper, we derive recurrence relations for the single and product moments of progressively Type-II right censored order statistics from half logistic distribution. Next, we derive the maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) of the location and scale parameters of the half logistic distribution. In addition, we use the setup proposed by Balakrishnan and Aggarwala (2000) to compute the approximate best linear unbiased estimates (ABLUEs) of the location and scale parameters. Finally, we point out a simulation study to compare between the efficiency of the techniques considered for the estimation.

  • This paper proposes the discrimination method for the fault location, whether it is within the line where the distributed generation(DG) is integrated or out of the line (but sharing the same bus of the substation). In general, DG has to be disconnected from the grid when the fault occurs on the interconnected distribution feeder as soon as possible. However, the faults occured on the neighboring feeder would mistakenly cause the disconnection of the DG. For reliable operation of DG, DG should be sustained at the fault occurred on neighboring distribution feeders. The proposed identification method utilizes the impedance monitored from the DG and examines the coordination of overcurrent relay of the distribution system. This paper describes how the proposed method to identify the faulted feeder and how the method can be utilized.

  • When a fire breaks out in a distribution center, it causes a lot of damage. And the most casualties are caused by Fire accidents. Therefore, training for fire prevention should be mandatory at the distribution center. Also, the contents of education should be different in room temperature warehouses and low temperature warehouses. Fire education in low-temperature warehouses should be more emphasized. This is because many fires occur in low-temperature warehouses. In this study, a study was conducted to determine the important order of training hours and contents for fire prevention education according to the type of distribution center. The importance of time and content for safety education in all types of warehouses did not differ significantly. It was first decided that safety prevention training should be conducted periodically in all types of warehouses

  • Smart flanges are used for pipeline and riser repair in subsea. In a typical case in the gas export pipeline project, the end cap bolts of a 4inch smart flange were broken during operation, and in turn leakage occurred. This work presents the detail of three dimensional finite element analysis of the smart flange to support the observed end cap bolts failure. From finite element analysis it turns out that in the presence of external bending moment, an uneven contact distribution is present between seal and end cap, which in turn changes the uniform load distribution on bolts and threaten the integrity of bolts. On the other hand, 3D finite element analysis of interaction between pipeline and seabed is presented by means of Abaqus to explore the distribution of bending moment along the pipeline route. It is found that lateral buckling occurs in the pipeline which introduces large bending moment.
