Combustion instability has been considered as very important issue for developing gas turbine and rocket engine. There is a need for fundamental understanding of combustion instability. In this study, combustion instability was numerically and experimentally investigated in a dump combustor with bluff body. The fuel and air mixture had overall equivalence ratio of 0.9 and was injected toward dump combustor. The pressure oscillation with approximately 256Hz was experimentally obtained. For numerical simulation, the standard k-$\varepsilon$ model was used for turbulence and the hybrid combustion model (eddy dissipation model and kinetically controlled model) was applied. After calculating steady solution, unsteady calculation was performed with forcing small perturbation on initial that solution. Pressure amplitude and frequency measured by pressure sensor is nearly the same as those predicted by numerical simulation. Furthermore, it is clear that a combustion instability involving vortex shedding is affected by acoustic-vortex-combustion interaction. The phase difference between the pressure and velocity is $\pi$/2, and that between the pressure and heat release rate is in excitation range described by Rayleigh, which is obvious that combustion instability for the bluff body combustor meets thermoacoustic instability criterion.
Dump combustor is a combustor having a dump plane to make coherent structures. A non-premixed flame dump combustor of simple geometry was constructed. We conducted basic experiments such as frequency response on the combustor to confirm the characteristics of the phenomena as a typical dump combustion and unsteady combustion. Furthermore we visualized the flame front behavior by CH chemiluminescence and high speed motion analysis. In spite of the lack of another data such as velocity, species concentration and temperature, the results showed not only the periodic motion of flame front but the ignition process of vortex ring flame. Also we could check out Rayleigh criterion by combining the visualization data with the pressure data.
Steady-state structure and acoustic pressure responses of GH$_2$-LOx diffusion flames in stagnation-point flow configuration have been studied numerically with a detailed chemistry to investigate the acoustic instabilities. The Rayleigh criterion is adopted to judge the instability of the GH$_2$-LOx flames from amplification and attenuation responses at various acoustic pressure oscillation conditions for near-equilibrium to near-extinction regimes. Steady state flame structure showed that the chain branching zone is embedded in surrounding two recombination zones. The acoustic responses of GH$_2$-LOx flame showed that the responses in near-extinction regime always have amplification effect regardless of realistic acoustic frequency. That is, GH$_2$-LOx flame near-extinction is much sensitive to pressure perturbation because of the strong effect of a finite-chemistry.
This paper presents the reclosing algorithm considering the DG(Distributed Generation). The algorithm consists of angle oscillation's judgment, EEEAC(Emergency Extended Equal-Area Criterion), calculation of optimal reclosing time and reconnection algorithm. The simulation is implemented for the three different DG technologies by using EMTP MODELS.
In this paper, we study the oscillatory and asymptotic behavior of a class of second order nonlinear differential inequality with perturbation and establish several theorems by using classification and analysis, which develop and generalize some known results.

Lateral vibrations of footbridges may induce synchronization between pedestrians and structure itself, resulting in amplification of such vibrations, a phenomenon identified by lock-in. However, investigations about accelerations and frequencies of the structural movement that are related to the occurrence of synchronization are still incipient. The aim of this paper is to investigate conditions that could lead to avoidance of synchronization among pedestrians themselves and footbridge, expressed in terms of peak acceleration. The focus is on the low acceleration range, employed in some guidelines as a criterion to avoid synchronization. An experimental campaign was carried out, employing a prototype footbridge that was set into oscillatory motion through a pneumatic exciter controlled by a fuzzy system, with controlled frequency and amplitude. Test subjects were then asked to cross the oscillating structure, and accelerations were simultaneously recorded at the structure and at the subject's waist. Pattern and phase differences between these signals were analysed. The results showed that test subjects tended to keep their walking patterns without synchronization induced by the vibration of the structure, for structural peak acceleration values up to 0.18 m/s2, when frequencies of oscillation were around 0.8 to 0.9 Hz. On the other hand, for frequencies of oscillation below 0.7 Hz, structural peak accelerations up to 0.30 m/s2 did not induce synchronization.
A code is developed using the hybrid Cartesian/immersed boundary method and it is applied to simulate flows around a three-dimensional deforming body. A new criterion is suggested to distribute the immersed boundary nodes based on edges crossing a body boundary. Velocities are reconstructed at the immersed boundary nodes using the interpolation along a local normal line to the boundary. Reconstruction of the pressure at the immersed boundary node is avoided using the hybrid staggered/non-staggered grid method. The developed code is validated through comparisons with other experimental and numerical results for the velocity profiles around a circular cylinder under the forced in-line oscillation and the pressure coefficient distribution on a sphere. The code is applied to simulate the flow fields around a plate whose tail is periodically flapping under a translation. The effects of the velocity and acceleration due to the deformation on the periodic shedding of pairs of tip vortices are investigated.
This paper presents two control algorithms for the frequency and amplitude of the resonator of a micro sensor. One algorithm excites the resonator at its a priori unknown resonant frequency, and the other algorithm alters the resonator dynamics to place the resonant frequency at a fixed frequency, chosen by the designer. Both algorithms maintain a specified amplitude of oscillations. The control system behavior is analyzed using an averaging method, and a quantitative criterion is provided for the selecting the control gain to achieve stability. Tracking and estimation accuracy of the natural frequency under the presence of measurement noise is also analyzed. The proposed control algorithms are applied to the MEMS dual-mass gyroscope without mechanical connecting beam between two proof-masses. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithms which guarantee the proof-masses of the gyroscope to move in opposite directions with the same resonant frequency and oscillation amplitude.

Autoreclosing techniques have been used in power systems to maintain system stability and continuity of supply. Environmental and economical issues have driven significant increases in the development of distributed generation (DG). DG connected to distribution systems, however, may impose negative influences with respect to power quality, protection, and stability, because DG can cause some challenges to protection, especially to reclosing. For this reason, in order to improve the reliability and safety of the distribution system, the rules and guidelines suggest that the DG system needs to be rapidly disconnected from the system before reclosing. We present, in this paper, an adaptive reclosing algorithm considering the DG. The algorithm consists of an angle oscillation's judgment, the emergency extended equal-area criterion (EEEAC), the calculation of an optimal reclosing time, and a reconnection algorithm. Our simulation results for three different DG technologies with Electromagnetic Transient Program (EMTP) indicate that we can maintain transient stability while the DG is protected against disturbances.
A series of wind tunnel tests was conducted to investigate the existence of the galloping instability of inclined dry cables and also to Identify the influence of some parameters on it. These parameters are the structural damping and cable surface roughness, which may have significant impact on the vibration characteristics. The test results showed both the divergent type of galloping instability and the limited amplitude high wind speed vortex shedding excitation. Galloping instability was observed in only one case. Parametric study shows that the vortex shedding oscillation can be easily suppressed with an increase of structural damping. It was also shown that the instability criterion indicated by earlier research was too conservative compared to the results obtained from the present study.
