  • Self-excited noise generation from laminar flames in thin annular jets of methane/air premixture has been investigated experimentally. Various flames were observed in this flow configuration, including conical shape flames, ring shape flames, steady crown shape flames, and oscillating crown shape flames. Self-excited noise with the total sound pressure level of about 70dB was generated from the oscillating crown shape flames for the equivalence ratio larger than 0.95. Sound pressure and $CH^{\ast}$ chemiluminescence were measured by using a microphone and a photomultiplier tube. The frequency of generated noise was measured as functions of equivalence ratio and premixture velocity. A frequency doubling phenomena have also been observed. The measured $CH^{\ast}$ chemiluminescence data were analyzed from which the corresponding sound pressure has been calculated. By comparing the data with those of measured ones, the noise source can be attributed to the flame front fluctuation near the edge of the oscillating crown-shape flames. The flame stability regime was influenced sensitively to the supplying air through the inner tube.

  • The paper deals with the study of the dynamics of the oscillating moving ring load acting in the interior of the hollow circular cylinder surrounded by an elastic medium. The axisymmetric loading case is considered and the study is made by employing the exact equations and relations of linear elastodynamics. The focus is on the influence of the oscillation of the moving load and the problem parameters such as the cylinder's thickness/radius ratio on the critical velocities. At the same time, the dependence between the interface stresses and load moving velocity under various frequencies of this load, as well as the frequency response of the mentioned stresses under various load velocity are investigated. In particular, it is established that oscillation of the moving load can cause the values of the critical velocity to decrease significantly and at the same time the oscillation of the moving load can lead to parametric resonance. It is also established that the critical velocity decreases with decreasing of the cylinder's thickness/radiusratio.

  • An Oscillating Water Column (OWC) is a relatively practical and convenient device that converts wave energy to a usable form, which is electricity. The OWC is kept inside a fixed truncated vertical cylinder, which is a hollow structure with one open end submerged in the water and with an air turbine at the top. This research adopts potential theory and Galerkin methods to solve the fluid motion inside the OWC. Using an air-water interaction model, OWC design for energy extraction from regular wave is also explored. The hydrodynamic coefficients of the scattering and radiation potentials are solved for using the Galerkin approximation. The numerical results for the free surface elevation have been verified by a series of experiments conducted in the University of New Orleans towing tank. The effect of varying geometric parameters on the response amplitude operator (RAO) of the OWC is studied and modification of the equation for evaluating the natural frequency of the OWC is made. Using the model of air-water interaction under certain wave parameters and OWC geometric parameters, a computer program is developed to calculate the energy output from the system.

Self-excited noise with the total sound pressure level of about 70dB was generated from the oscillating crown shape flames for the equivalence ratio larger than 0.95. Sound pressure and $CH^*$ chemiluminescence were measured by using a microphone and a photomultiplier tube. The frequency of generated noise was measured as functions of equivalence ratio and premixture velocity. A frequency doubling phenomena have also been observed. The flame shape during flame oscillation was reconfirmed by a synchronized PIV experiment. The velocity and pressure field were obtained from PIV. The minimum pressure was formed near the edge of flame representing circulation. By comparing the results of sound pressure, flame luminosity and PIV, the noise source can be attributed to the flame front fluctuation near the edge of the oscillating crown-shape flames.

  • In this paper, we designed a spiral inductor and voltage controlled oscillator with the negative resistor for the bluetooth receiver by using 0.25$\mu\textrm{m}$ 1-poly 5-metal CMOS n-well process. The proposed inductor, which applies multi layer metal structure, is a structure that decreases resistance value by increasing he metal thickness. As the resistance value decreases, the quality factor Q has improved. Also, voltage-controlled oscillator is designed applying 1 port negative resistance, and changes its oscillating frequency by varying outside capacitor values. The simulation results show that oscillating frequency is 2.33~2.58GHz changing from 2pF to 14pF, and the oscillator has oscillating power over 0dBm.

  • The aerodynamic characteristics of the oscillating airfoil(NACA0012) were measured by experimental methods by using the airfoil oscillating test rig installed at KARI 1m wind tunnel. The chord of the airfoil is 0.2m and the span is 0.75m. The lift and pitching moments were calculated by integrating the surface pressure measured by strain-gage type pressure sensors. The test condition is like this : the reduced oscillating frequency(k) < 0.1, Re ~ 820,000, Mach < 0.25. The test results were compared with the reference data published by other facilities.

  • The lifted oscillating flame has been studied using experiments of inverse diffusion flames that the air jet injected into a methane background. To find out the characteristics of inverse diffusion flames, fundamentally flame stabilized diagram is investigated with various air and fuel jet velocities. It has five regions - flame extinction, stable attached flame, anchored flame, liftoff flame and blow off region. In inverse diffusion flame, lifted flames were observed near the blow off region. As long as flames lift off, flames oscillate by periods. In this oscillating lifted flame region, the frequency of 1 and under were observed in various air and methane jet velocities. Characteristics of lifted flames are also examined by using the ICCD direct image. And intensity of flame chemiluminescence is very different in rising and falling period from photographs. For the present, it is predicted that the changes of flame structure are related with flame oscillation, but more experiments will be needed to make clear the phenomenon.

  • The operation of linear oscillating system is complicated, involving system nonlinearities of both actuator and load, and variations of driving frequency in order to track the mechanical resonance. In this paper, both analytical and state-variable modeling techniques are used to investigate the influence of actuator parameters, such as back-emf/thrust force coefficient and cogging force, on the performance of linear oscillating systems. Analytical derivations are validated by simulations, and good agreements are achieved. The findings of the paper can greatly facilitate the design and evaluation processes of permanent magnet linear actuators.

  • A technique used to induce maximum oscillating voltage in the BJT Clapp VCO is presented. The technique finds the optimal feedback capacitance values resulting in the largest oscillating signal swing across the resonator at a given bias state and the VCO's center frequency. By doing so, the presented technique attains the lowest phase noise which the BJT Clapp VCO can have. An analysis of the measurement results of the fabricated oscillators has verified that the VCO with the optimal feedback capacitance values actually exhibits the lowest phase noise.

  • A study has been made of cool-down process on an incompressible fluid contained in a periodically oscillating cylinder when an abrupt cooling of wall temperature is imposed. Characteristics of flow and heat transfer are investigated along the variations of oscillating frequency and amplitude. One found the flow regimes are divided into 4-modes : 1 thermal island mode, 2 thermal island mode, 4 thermal island mode and asymmetry mode. Comprehensive analysis for each mode are given with a physical mechanism on cool-down process.
