Objectives : In this study, I want to work on efficacious porridges through inquiry into the Jukmiryu(粥穈類) based on the classical literature. It is intended to serve as a basic study to explore the modern-day application of dishes that are good as patient meals or healthy foods for elderly people. Methods : I have taken the original text of Jukmiryu(粥穈類) included in Junsaengpaljeon(遵生八牋) and translated it. Further, I have compared it to those porridges treated in Nonohangeon (老老恒言), a book in geriatrics from Ming Dynasty. Results : Nonohangeon(老老恒言) describes sources and effects of 100 porridges. With recipes too simplified, however, it doesn't provide any practical help. In contrast, Junsaengpaljeon(遵生八牋) presents 40 porridges together with their effects and recipes. It is practically more beneficial, as it provides recipes more specific than Nonohangeon(老老恒言). Conclusions : Jukmiryu(粥穈類) in Junsaengpaljeon(遵生八牋) set great store on the pharmacological effects of food. As it provides detailed description of porridge recipes and ingredients as well as their effects, readers can easily apply them to symptoms. Since individuals may choose what would be appropriate for their own symptoms, it could be helpful in not only providing patient meals and foods for elderly people but also improving dietary practice.
In July 2015, diseased leaves of black chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa) were observed in Danyang and Gochang, Korea. The symptoms appeared as circular or irregular brown leaf spots, from which Alternaria tenuissima was isolated. The isolates were cultured on potato dextrose agar, and their morphological characteristics were observed under a light microscope. The colonies were whitish to ash colored. The pathogenicity test on healthy black chokeberry leaves produced circular brown spots, in line with the original symptoms. Molecular analyses of the ITS, GPD, RPB2, and TEF genes were conducted to confirm the identity of the pathogen. The phylogeny of the multi-gene sequences indicated that the causal agent was A. tenuissima. This study is the first report of A. tenuissima leaf spot on black chokeberry (A. melanocarpa).

Background and purpose: Maek Kyoung(脈經) is a book written, compiled, and edited by Wang Hui circa 3 A.D. This book is the first technical book devoted to the diagnostics. These are very important data but never make a special study and translate. so I hope this treatise can be great help to understand diagnosis study. Methods: Maek Kyoung(脈經) consists of ten volumes, and the third volume consists of the five chapters, including inter-generation and inter-restriction of the five viscera and the six entrails and prognosis of diseases. This treatise is made up of principal, notes, study and conclusion, we tried to make a translation faithful to the original. Results and Conclusion: Chapter 5 refers to three things. The first is relation between kidney and urinary bladder, the second is ordinary and extraordinary pulse condition of kidney, and the third is how to treat diseases related to kidney.
Objective : We explored the meaning of "Pyo (表)" in Gangpyeong-Shanghanlun through two cases. Methods : We analyzed the original form of 表 and its context in Shanghanlun. We also analyzed 2 clinical cases of bipolar disorder treated with Mahwang-tang (麻黃湯) according to the newly deduced definition of 表. Results : 表 can be interpreted as "pursuing something high-class seen from the outside." Both cases had various psychological symptoms including insomnia, mood swings, anxiety, and depression. We determined that the diseases in both cases occurred when 表 had not been achieved. We also found that 麻黃湯 can improve psychological status. Conclusions : 表 is different from "surface," which is the most widely used definition. After diagnosing these two patients with bipolar disorder using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th edition), we found that symptoms could be improved by administration of 麻黃湯 (46條). Although its potential for neuropsychiatric diagnosis has been suggested through etymological interpretation of 表 and analysis of two cases, more advanced clinical studies are needed in the future.

In May 2021, characteristic soft rot symptoms, including soft, watery, slimy, black rot, wilting, and leaf collapse, were observed on melon plants (Cucumis melo) in Gokseong, Jeollanam-do, Korea. A bacterial strain, designated KNUB-06-21, was isolated from infected plant samples, taxonomically classified, and phylogenetically analyzed using 16S rRNA and housekeeping gene sequencing. Strain KNUB-06-21 was also examined for compound utilization using the API ID 32 GN system and strain KNUB-06-21 was identified as Pectobacterium brasiliense. Subsequent melon stem inoculation studies using strain KNUB-06-21 showed soft rot symptoms similar to field plants. Re-isolated strains shared phenotypic and molecular characteristics with the original P. brasiliense KNUB-06-21 strain. To our knowledge, ours is the first report of P. brasiliense causing melon soft rot disease in Korea.
Objectives : The purpose and application method of the five kinds of Gagamjeong-gisan in the Onbyeongjobyeon were analyzed and their significance was examined. Methods : First, contents within medical texts on the Gwakhyangjeong-gisan, the original formula for the Gagamjeong-gisan were analyzed. Next, application, symptoms and pathogenic mechanism, treatment principle, composition of the Gagamjeong-gisan as written in the Onbyeongjobyeon were analyzed. Characteristics of each formula as deduced from this process were compared and examined. Results : The Gwakhyangjeong-gisan covers both external contraction and internal damage, applied regardless of external or internal symptoms. It restores the Yang qi of the Spleen and Stomach, balancing the Zheng qi to respond to the external qi. The Gagamjeong-gisan takes after the Gwakhyangjeong-gisan, reflecting such properties. However, the latter differs in that it excludes ingredients unfit for treating dampness-warmth, and uses different application methods according to the level of discharge of dampness pathogen. Conclusions : The Gagamjeong-gisan is modified from the Gwakhyangjeong-gisan, which is applied to cold damage and internal damage to better treat warm disease. It can be said to have acted as a bridge for warm disease scholars in composing formulas that deal with dampness-heat disease.
Background: Although a variety of instruments implement body maps for the precise identification of pain symptoms, no instrument has been validated for use in people with obesity. This study reports the adaptation and validation of body maps for musculoskeletal pain location in people with obesity. Methods: Nine key anatomical regions were highlighted based on the original images of the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire body maps. Adult silhouettes were generated from photographs of men and women with obesity. The body dimensions were adjusted to take into account the different body fat distribution patterns of people with obesity. The validity of the images was assessed by 12 experts. Subsequently, a data collection stage was performed with 58 patients with severe obesity from both sexes. The reproducibility of the images was tested by comparison with the original images. Results: The results of the validation pilot study indicated that the adapted images facilitated the location of musculoskeletal pain in men and women with obesity. The reproducibility of the original and adapted versions of the body maps indicated good agreement for pain over the last 12 months and 7 days (80% vs. 79.7%). Pain scores in the last 12 months indicated good and high sensitivity and specificity for all body areas (60.9% vs. 89.1%). Considering pain in the last 7 days, high sensitivity and specificity for all areas of the body (85.1% vs. 70.1%). Conclusions: The body maps developed in this study are reliable and valid to identify the location of pain in people with obesity.

In every parts, author's unique clinical theory appears affluently and in that periods his study developed a lot in those days' medical methods. The first book deals with eum yang. second book is weakness and strongness, third upper and low, fourth truth and untruth. First book, Jin Sa Tak says studying on eum yang is oriental medical basic theory and on incurable diseases or chronic symptoms, doctor must go back to that eumyang demonstration after can cure patients. Second parts are on weakness and strongness demonstration, that weakness is weakness of patients' energy and strongness is prosperous condition of diseases' attack. Third parts are on upper and low, that upper is upper parts of human body of painful parts and low is human low parts of pain, that is parts of under waist. And this treaties fourth parts are truth and untruth, true symptoms and untrue symptoms, that is the real reaction of human condition and the other way. Every prescriptions are author's creations. Purpose: The effect of orthognathic surgery on the temporomandibular dysfunction has been controversial. The purpose of this study is to prove statistically that early removal of fixation plate at postoperative 2 weeks with active exercise of mouth opening could relieve preoperative temporomandibular dysfunction and reposition of temporomandibular joint. Patients and Methods: All 28 subject patients underwent mandibular setback with BSSRO in Kyunghee medical center by one surgeon. The fixation plates used for rigid fixation were removed at postoperative 2 weeks and we had the patients excercise active mouth opening with intermaxillary rubber rings for the guiding proper postoperative occlusion. Temporomandibular symptoms were checked and radiographs were taken before surgery, within a month after surgery, six to twelve months after surgery respectively. Results: The temporomandibular dysfunction symptoms were relieved after the surgery and the condyle was displaced inferior-posteriorly immediate after surgery and repositioned toward its original position during follow-up periods. Conculusion: Orthognathic surgery may benefit temporomandibular joint dysfunction by obtaining a postoperative stable occlusion and more physiologic neuromuscular function. The early removal of fixation plates after BSSRO could reposition the temporomandibular joint to physiologic position and relieve the symptoms of temporomandibular dysfunction by permitting movement of proximal segment.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to examine how an integrated approach to type 2 diabetes mellitus treatment could improve glycemic control and immune-potentiating activities adherent to oral hypoglycemic agents along with a botanical compound, among primary care patients. Methods: In this study, we used the self-control and the group-control methods. Candidates meeting the trial conditions were selected from among volunteers who had taken the test substance for 45 days. During the trial, all groups were on a controlled diet; neither were the original medications nor their dosages changed. Results: The results showed that the botanical compound (Glyco-Persica$^{(R)}$) significantly reduced the main clinical symptoms in diabetes type 2. In the treatment group, 36 of 52 patients (69.23%) and in the control group 10 of 52 patients (19.23%) showed reduced symptoms, and this difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). The fasting blood sugar in the treatment group after treatment compared with that before treatment and with that in the control group after treatment was statistically different (P < 0.05). The post-prandial glucose in the treatment group after treatment was significantly different from that before treatment and from that in the control group after treatment (P < 0.05); the post-prandial blood sugar in the treatment group was reduced by 8.98%. Conclusions: The results revealed that the botanical compound (Glyco-Persica$^{(R)}$) has significant hypoglycemic properties which affect main clinical symptoms in diabetes type 2. Body weight, blood pressure, heart rate, routine blood, stool and urine tests showed no meaningful negative changes after the course of treatment. There was no significant adverse reaction during the trial.
