Currently the general prescription is regulating the flow of vital energy including drugs eliminating blood stasis. Even though the stroke is resulted from diseases caused by exogenous evil, by observing the patient's physical appearance, essence of life, vital energy, and mental faculties which are believed to be the functions of the heart to clear the upper body and invigorate the functions of the spleen and stomach and purge with drugs of warm nature is a closer approach than simply prescribing vital energy regulating drugs with eliminating blood stasis to the main purpose of treatment. Methods : 1) The subject of the study are 2 cases of patients who have visited the private hospital of the person who is announcing the results of the study. These patients have been given a diagnosis of edema or cystoma caused by bursitis in the knee joint through perception or medical examination and were waiting for operational application. 2) Sources related to stroke from Dong Eui Bo Gwam(東醫寶鑑) were used as the general standard of Korean Traditional Medicine, and to promote the understanding the original text and the translation has been given. 3) By observing the whole body such as the patient's usual physical appearance, essence of life, vital energy, and mental faculties which are believed to be the functions of the heart, or partly using the "Yin is even and well while Yang is firm" theory of "Plain Questions" as the background to present the results of the clinical study. Results and Conclusion : Generally the prescriptions from the first volume of Dong Eui Bo Gwam(東醫寶鑑) are mostly drugs eliminating stagnated blood including extravasated blood and the blood moving sluggishly in circulation or congested in a viscus, alleviating pain, invigorating blood circulation. Also prescriptions for bone fracture or fracture of bones and sinews are mostly to eradicate blood stasis with drastic drugs or coaptation drugs added to drugs eliminating stagnated blood including extravasated blood and the blood moving sluggishly in circulation or congested in a viscus, alleviating pain, invigorating vital energy, possessing warm properties for the Xue system.

Results : The relationship between the human's five viscera and four seasons has the homeostasis as a result of the compatibility and rivalry process. Between of the human's five viscera and four seasons, the spleen plays important role of four seasons. The reason is that the liver, the heart, the lungs and the kidneys manages the 72 days in spring, summer, autumn and winter, repectively. However, the spleen arranges and regulates the liver, the heart, the lungs and the kidneys through the 18days of each season's ending, respectively. These are the basis of Lee Dong Won's(李東垣) 'The Spleen Strength Theory(補脾論). In four seasons, We make prescription harmonized with the energy such as rising in spring, floating in summer, astriction in autumn, preservation in winter. Conclusions : These results suggest that the criterion and the conception of the four seasons may be important role to remedy for diseases and to prescribe and to use of medicine.

  • This paper analyzes the case records of a herbalist En Su-ryong who lived at the Kochang area of Chollapukdo province in the 19th century. The records, which were included in his collection of works, Tantojip(呑吐集), were consisted of 11 clinical diagnosis and prescriptions. The result of the analysis is as follows. First, En Su-ryong's records are estimated to be valuable enough to contribute to the development of the Korean clinical medicine, in light of the fact that the present established prescriptions or medical theory came from the repetition of trial and error by many herb doctors. Second, his case records are unique in the style of writing, because they were consisted of only his own clinical diagnosis and prescriptions case by case, while those of ordinary herbalists were classified by the types of the symptoms of a disease, with their prescriptions modified from the past established. Third, in the records he minutely wrote not only the names and the addresses of the patients under his care, but also the names of the diseases, the progress and the contents of his treatment, and even the perfect cure or not. Therefore, his case records are appreciated to be very important from the standpoint of the history of the society.

  • "Uirimchwaryo(醫林撮要)" is a medical book that takes a model of written in the middle of Chosun dynasty. In the contents side, it seems to unite a korea medicine with the Geum-Won Dynasty(金元時代) in ancient china. we can think much of the value that it combines theory with experience, choosing the merits of "Uibangyuchwi(醫方類聚)" which were the masterpieces of the first half of Chosun Dynasty and it increased a practical use to choose easily prescription in the clinic. This book which was proofread and published by imperial physician Yang Yaesoo(楊禮壽, ? ~ 1597) is not exist. • Purpose : Dysmenorrhea which repeat every menstrual phase give complaints like pain, vomiting, nasal bleeding and etc. But in many textbooks pathogenesis and treatment process of dysmenorrhea obscure. So the purpose of this study is to identify the conception, pathogenesis and treatment process of dysmenorrhea. Methods : After catching the limitations of preexistence theory about dysmenorrhea, I show a meaningful argument of dysmenorrhea. Results : The conception, pathogenesis and treatment process of dysmenorrhea are like this. Dysmenorrhea which occurs for menstrual phase can make deficiency of blood. There are intimate relations between uterine function and the five Zang-organs, especially heart, spleen and liver, so menstruation induces the weakness of those organs. And the insufficiency of kidney and conception-thorough vessel which have control over the uterine function can make dysmenorrhea. Conclusion : The deficiency of kidney which is responsible for holding Qi breaks down the balance of Zang-organs Yin-Yang, then dysmenorrhea appears through Zang-organs weakness of heart, spleen and liver. For the treatment of dysmenorrhea, we should consider preferentially the deficiency of kidney, afterward Bianzheng Lunzhi of the Zang-fu organs.

  • By studying from Chun Kuk are(戰國時代) to Chung area(淸代), I could find some conclusion as follows. 1. It was Chun Kuk area(戰國時代) that was shown some signs of forthcoming activity of theory of Ki Kyung Pal Maek(奇經八脈). In that time, Hwang Jae Nae Kyung(黃帝內經) had been written. That book made a important role for foundation of theory of Ki Kyung Pal Maek(奇經八脈), but it hadn't sufficient contents in some parts. 2. The theory of the Ki Kyung Pal Maek (奇經八脈) had been developed in Jin Han area(秦漢時代), Nan Kyung(難經) had been written in the area, Nan Kyung(難經) had been the first book which had referred to name and physiology of Ki Kyung Pal Maek(奇經八脈) and it also had mentioned about course, function, and pathology of that in simple manner. 3. In Yang Jin are and Su Dang area(兩晋 및 隋唐時代), Maek Kyung(脈經) and Hwang Jae Nae Kyung Tae So(黃帝內經太素) had been written Maek Kyung(脈經) had been the first book which had referred to pathology of Ki Kyung Pal Maek(奇經八脈) by Maek Jin(脈診) in detail, and it had affected on such books like Tae Pyung Seoung Hveu bang (太平聖惠方) and Ko Kum Yeu Tong Dae Chon(古今醫統大全). Hwang Jae Nae Kyung Tae So(黃帝內經太素) had mentioned about course, function, and pathology about Ki Kyung Pal Maek(奇經八脈) in most detail at that time, and it also had referred to that of such books like Myung Dang(明堂) and Ku Khoun Kyung(九卷經) which do not exist in present. Because of these point, Hwang jae Nae Kyung Tae So(黃帝內經太素) is evaluated an important book of theory of Ki Kyung Pal Maek(奇經八脈). 4. In Song area(宋代), Seung Jae Chong Rok(聖濟總錄) had been written. Seung Jae Chong Rok(聖濟總錄) first mentioned about meeting between Ki Kyung Pal Maek(奇經八脈) and Sip I Jong Kyung(十二正經), so this book helped development of theory of Ki Kyung Pal Maek(奇經八脈) of Kum Won area(金元時代). 5. In Kum Won area(金元時代), Dong In Su Hyul Chym Ku Do Kyung(銅人腧穴針灸圖經) had been written. Dong In Su Hyul Chym Ku Do Kyung(銅人腧穴針灸圖經) made a important role of theroy of Im Meak(任脈) and Dok Meank(督脈). Sip Sa Kyung Bal Hyui(十四經發揮) was superior to other books which had been referred to theory of Ki Kyung Pal Maek(奇經八脈) at that time. Also Sip Sa Kyung Bal Hyui(十四經發揮) more mentioned about meeting between Ki Kyung Pal Maek(奇經八脈) and Sip I Jong Kyung(十二正經) than that of Seung Jae Chong Rok(聖濟總錄), so this book helped dvelopment of theory of Ki Kyung Pal Maek(奇經八脈). 6. In Myung area(明代), Ki Kyung Pal Maek Ko(奇經八脈考) that had almost accomplished theory of Ki Kyung Pal Maek(奇經八脈) had been written. Ki Kyung Pal Maek Ko(奇經八脈考) was the best book more than any other book that had been mentioned about theory of Ki Kyung Pal Maek(奇經八脈) in three ways as follows. 1) It is Ki Kyung Pal Maek Ko(奇經八脈考) that mentioned about near similar manner of modern course and physiology of Ki Kyung Pal Maek(奇經八脈). 2) Ki Kyung Pal Maek Ko(奇經八脈考) mentioned about pathology and treatment of Ki Kyung Pal Maek(奇經八脈) in detail more than any other book. 3) Ki Kyung Pal Maek Ko(奇經八脈考) emphasized on relationship between Ryun Kong(鍊功) and Ki Kyung Pal Maek(奇經八脈).
