  • Objectives : Weight loss and loss of appetite in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patients are common symptoms, these are associated with survival as well as nutritional condition. The changes in weight and appetite were reported after treatment using Megestrol acetate and Korean medical treatments. Methods : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patient with weight loss and loss of appetite were treated by administering megestrol acetate a known anti-malignant tumor agent and Korean medical treatments such as acupuncture, pharmacopuncture and herbal medicine. The changes in weight and appetite were checked using body mass index(BMI) and simplified nutritional appetite questionnaire(SNAQ). Results : There was a more than 17 kg increase in weight. BMI increased from 15.94 $kg/m^2$ to 21.97 $kg/m^2$ and SNAQ score increased from 7 to 16. Owing to several side effects, Megestrol acetate was stopped after which only Korean medical treatments were provided. After which the lasting effects in BMI and appetite could be seen. Conclusion : There are few studies on weight loss and loss of appetite in ALS patients. Using only megestrol acetate can cause several considerable side effects. Which respect to this, the findings in this study could open up new clinical guideline possibilities.

  • In 1189's ZhongXiuZhengHuoJingShiZhengLeiBeiYongBenCao(重修政和經史證類備用本草), we took a look at the medicinal herbs that mentioned JoSeon(朝 鮮), GoRyeo(高麗), BaekJe(百濟), SinRa(新羅), DongIn(東人), DongHae(東海), YoDong(遼東), and BalHae(渤海). In the face of Korea's Oriental medicine's reality of having medical texts only after the 2nd half of the GoRyeo(高麗) Dynasty, this study will provide the basis of finding the origin of Indigenous Herbal Medical Science that was founded in the late-GoRyeo(高麗), early-JoSeon(朝鮮) period.

  • The fusion research subjects of Oriental medicine and Information-Technology are actively advanced. These researches provide Oriental medicine the objectivity and support the infra to all study area of Oriental medicine. This paper considers the inside and outside of the country technical development trend of ontology research by analyzing papers and going through case study. It executed information analysis about changes to number of research papers, present state and star higher officer of research facility from the dissertation which it sees. It is known that our country research result is slight so far in quantity and quality as result of analysis. But hereafter it contains many developmental possibilities. Also it reflects the appearance and a growth of new field like bio-informatics biology. In the area of medicine, ontology used to define the terminology for information documentation and the medical terms linked up by high correlation. Also medical information system developed briskly using ontology technology. The ontology of traditional korean medicine play an important role in base infra of traditional korean medicine EHR(Electronic health record).

The patient dignosed as a Transverse Myelitis receive acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping and physical therapy and herbal medication by estimating arthralgia syndrome(痺證). Results The patient's incipient symptoms-both lower limb paresthesia and weakness, voluntary urination and defecation-all were improved. Conclusions This study demonstrates that oriental medical treatment has respectable effect in improving as though we didn't exclude effect of western medical therapy on the patient with transverse myelitis. More research of transverse myelitis is needed.

  • Objectives : This study was performed to identify the efficacy and safety of ephedra and green tea mesotherapy on localized fat. Methods : Twenty-five healthy $20{\sim}35$ year overweight women (body mass $index{\geq}23kg/m^2$) were recruited and randomly assigned to two groups : experimental(mahuang and green tea) group (n=13), placebo(Normal saline) group (n=12). Total 8 times of herbarl mesotherapy treatment were performed once per week, 4 times were performed on right thigh (1st period), after wash-out for 1 week, the other 4 times were performed on left thigh (2nd period) without any modification of diet or exercise. Body composition, thigh circumferences were measured at each period before and after the intervention. Subcutaneous fat was measured by CT scan at before and after the 1st period of intervention and free fatty acid(FFA) was measured immediately before 1st intervention, 1 hour later, 24 hours later, and 7 days later. Satisfaction score and adverse events were evaluated. Results : In the subcutaneous fat, there were no significances, but in the circumferences. Experimental group had significant change when compared with placebo group (p<0.05). In FFA, experimental group has significant elevation at after 1 hour (p<0.05) evaluation. There were no serious adverse events in both groups. Conclusions : Experimental group had some significant findings in circumference, FFA, and had no serious adverse events comparing with placebo group, and no serious adverse events have been reported in both group. Mesotherapy with herb have a possibility of treating localized fat

To assess psychological factors, Self-esteem inventory(SEI), Revised Children's Manifest Anxiety Scale(RCMAS), International Physical Activity Questionnaires(IPAQ), Korean Eating Attitudes Test(KEAT-26) and Children's Depression Inventory(CDI) were administered. Behavioral characteristics were also analyzed. Results Self-esteem(SEI) had significant positive relationship with physical activity(IPAQ) and sleeping time. Self-esteem had significant negative relationship with anxiety(RCMAS), eating disorder(KEAT-26) and watching TV time. Anxiety had significant positive relationship with eating disorder(KEAT-26) and watching TV time, and negative relationship with physical activity(IPAQ) and sleeping time. All of participants seemed to be having depressive tendency. Conclusion Self-esteem and anxiety were significantly related. And eating disorder, physical activity, sleeping time and watching tv also affected to the self-esteem and anxiety of obese children.

  • The human anatomy is the fundamental subject which is required lots of time and efforts for medical students. But most of the oriental medical students think it little important field. And moreover they have no active attitudes in their courses. In order to improve the present situation, the results obtained from this study are as follows: 1. As a Law of Cadaver Conservation revised systemically, there's need to have enough cadavers for dissection. 2. The teaching method must be converted into the laboratory technique with the strengthening human anatomy. 3. With opening a neuroanatomy course in oriental medical curriculum, the quality of nervous system is expected to increase. 4. Under the current medical system, there's need to have discussion deeply about the histology course.
