A Case Report of One Patient with Infertility Accompanied by Adenomyosis and Uterine Myoma (자궁근종 및 자궁선근증을 동반한 불임환자 증례보고)

  • Objectives: Adenomyosis is the disease caused by ingrowth of lining tissue into the uterine muscle. Final treatment of the disease is hysterectomy. But if a patient want to get pregnant, there is a tendency to avoid surgical treatment. This paper introduces the potential of oriental medical treatment for infertility caused by adenomyosis through a case study. Methods: A 34-year-old female patient, who wants to get pregnant, was diagnosed with adenomyosis. She wants to take oriental medical treatment in the ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ Oriental Hospital. We applied herb-medication, acupuncture and moxibustion. Results: Overall condition including the symptoms was relieved and succeeded in pregnancy after oriental medical treatment. Conclusions: Oriental medical treatment has an effect infertility caused by adenomyosis.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Korean Medicine therapy to chronic pelvic inflammatory disease. Methods: A 34 years old woman, who suffered from chronic pelvic inflammatory disease was admitted to the OBGY department of Se-Myung University, Je-Cheon. In the beginning of treatment, she had pain and cold in the lower abdomen, dysuria, displeasure of sexual intercourse, etc. She received Korean Medicine therapies such as herbal medicine, moxibustion, acupuncture and got good result from them. Results: As a result, symptoms are remarkably alleviated. Conclusion: The present study suggests that Korean Medicine therapies have significant effect on chronic pelvic inflammatory disease.

A Study on Relations between the Index of Obesity by Body Composition Analysis and Results of other Oriental Health Examinations on Some Women (일부 여성의 한방검진에서 체성분 검사를 통한 비만지표와 그 외 한방 검진 결과와의 상관관계 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find out the relations between the index of obesity by body composition analysis (EMI. %BF and WHR) and results of other oriental health examinations (QSCC II, HRV and APG) on some women. Methods: 114 women who were tested by oriental health examination between May 2006 and August 2008 were studied. Results: As a result of the study on the relations between the index of obesity by body composition analysis and sasang constitution, it was found that each of them had significant differences among themselves and Taeumin had the highest significance than other sasang constitution. As a result of the study on the relations between the index of obesity by body composition analysis and HRV, it was discovered that there was no significant relationship between BMI and WHR and HRV. However, %BF had negative correlations with autonomic activity, stress resistance and stress index. As a result of the study on the relations between the index of obesity by body composition analysis and APG, it was found that they had positive correlations with each other. Conclusion: In conclusion, there are significant relations between the index of obesity by body composition analysis and results of other oriental health examinations.

Trends Analysis of Clinical Studies on Korean Medicine for Infertility (국내에서 수행된 난임 관련 한의학 치료 임상연구 경향 고찰)

  • Objectives: This study were investigated clinical studies published in international and Korea's journals to assess the effect of Korean Medicine for infertility. Methods: PubMed and Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System (OASIS) were searched for this review up to Nov 2016.: using terms of 'infertility' and 'subfertile'. Results: Fifty clinical studies were finally selected. All studies were assessed as the noncomparative studies, and mainly case reports. The year of publication of literatures was the highest at from 2011 to 2015, accounted for 44%. Among 50 studies, there were 5 studies on males, 43 studies on females and 2 studies on both male and female. The number of subjects varies from 1 to 1277. The number of studies with subjects less than 10 was the greatest. Of all the studies, only three were institutional review board (IRB) approved. There were 9 studies that indicated whether the grant was supported. The duration of treatment was between 30 and 360 days, and most cases were within 180 days. Intervention methods were 100% for herb medicine, 40% added on acupuncture, and 29% added on moxibustion. Conclusions: Further clinical trials of well designed is needed to accumulate enough information to establish the evidence for Korean Medicine for infertility.

  • Objectives : This study is to report the clinical effect of oriental medicine on a patient suffering from endometriosis with chronic pelvic pain and other accompanied various symptoms. Methods : The 32 years old patient had suffered from endometriosis symptoms including pelvic pain, menstrual cramping, disuresia, and other pains over 8 years. The patient received herbal medication, acupuncture, abdominal moxibustion during 5 months of outpatient treatment. The clinical effects were evaluated through TSD (Total Symptom Distress) and EHP-5 (Short-From Endometriosis Health Profile Questionnaire). Results : The various clinical symptoms were improved during the treatment. The TSD and EHP-5 score also noticeably reduced. Conclusions : This case study showed that oriental medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion treatment appeared to effectively reduce various symptom of endometriosis.

  • Objectives: This study is to report the effect of oriental medicine on a cervical incompetence patient. Methods: The effectiveness of surgical cerclage in the cervical incompetence have had prolonged controversy. Herbal medicine was given to a cervical incompetence patient whom was suggested surgical cerclage. The patient was a 40-year-old female and treated with Dojeukgangki-tang gagambang. Results: After oriental herbal treatment, the clinical symptom of a cervical incompetence was improved and maintained, the patient was delivered in 38 weeks through cesarian section. Conclusions: Oriental herbal medicine and treatment have possibility to be a useful alternative to the surgical cerclage on cervical incompetence on the basis of more persistent study.

Analysis of Experimental Study Tendency on Oriental Herbal Medicines for Male Infertility - Focusing on Domestic Theses for a Degree - (남성 불임에 관한 실험연구 동향 분석 - 학위논문 중심으로 -)

  • Objectives: The tendency of experimental studies on the male infertility was analyzed through focusing on domestic theses for a degree to indicate the hereafter direction for its study in oriental herbal medicine. Methods: 35 domestic theses for a degree published after 2003 were analyzed. And theses were classified by year, study design, degree and subjects. Results: The followings are the results of this study. 1. 35 theses were reviewed. 11 master dissertations and 24 doctorate dissertations 2. In the annual publishing tendency, the number of theses began to increase from 2003 and the theses have been published actively from 2005. 3. Classified by study design, 19 in vitro & in vivo and 16 in vitro experimental studies were performed. 4. In the medication and prescription, the studies with single medication were 32, and prescription were 3. In the studies with single medication, four studies on Ginseng Radix (人蔘) were the most. 5. In theses related to single medication, BoYang-Yak was most prefered, followed BoYeum-Yak, BoKi-Yak, SabJung-ChukNyo-JiDae-Yak. 6. Analysed 35 theses by subject, concentrational experiments were 23, periodical experiment were 3, concentrational & periodical experiment was 1. 7. In theses related to herb medication, the themes were Body & testicular weight, sperm parameters, testosterone level, CREM mRNA level & CREM protein, seminiferous tubule and antioxidant activity. 8. Related to herb medication's antioxidant activity efficacy were 7 theses. Conclusions: If there are more diverse studies on medication, prescription, external treatment methods and experiment methods in the future, this will be very helpful for the clinical treatment of male infertility.

A Study on Correlation of Transvaginal Sonography Findings, CA-125 and Blood Stasis Pattern for 15 Adenomyosis Patients (자궁선근증 환자 15명의 초음파 검사 소견, CA-125와 어혈증(瘀血證) 설문지 점수와의 상관성 규명)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to know the correlation of transvaginal sonography findings, CA-125 and blood stasis pattern for 15 adenomyosis patients. Methods: We got questionnaires from 15 patients among 243 patients who had hysterectomy related with adenomyosis in the department of obstetrics and gynecology, OO medical center from April 11th 2010 to November 15th 2010, and analyzed them. We conducted correlation analysis between age, pain(VAS), duration of pain and blood stasis score, and between difference and sum of uterine walls, CA-125 and blood stasis score. For statistics, we used Spearman correlation coefficient and SPSS version 17.0 for windows. Results: The correlation between sum of uterine walls and CA-125 showed statistical significance. The correlation between CA-125 and blood stasis score showed statistical significance. There is no statistically correlation between age, VAS, duration of the pain and blood stasis score. There is no statistically correlation between difference of uterine walls and CA-125, and between difference and sum of uterine walls and blood stasis score. Conclusion: The result showed that sum of uterine walls is related with CA-125. We need a further study to develop blood stasis indicators with a validated questionnaire, and more subjects involved at multiple institutions.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to review the effects and treatment of Korean, Oriental, Chinese medicine for premenstrual syndrome(PMS) as preceding research in order to further research the effective Korean Medicine treatment for PMS. Methods: Databases from Jan., 2002 through Feb., 2012 were searched through Pubmed for international journals; Korean studies information service system(KISS), National Discovery for Science Leaders(NDSL), Journal of Korean Acumoxa, J of Oriental Obstetrics and Gynecology, J of Meridian and Acupoint, and J of Korean Oriental Medicine for Korean journals were searched for national journals. The following search terms were used: acupuncture premenstrual syndrome, alternative medicine premenstrual syndrome, traditional Chinese medicine(TCM), premenstrual syndrome for Pubmed, premenstrual syndrome(in Korean and English) for the remaining search. Results: Twenty four studies were included in this review. Conclusions: Alternative medicinal intervention such as acupuncture and herb medicine may be effective treatment method in controlling premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual dysphoric disorder(PMDD).

A Study on Stress and Blood Stasis Pattern for 55 Uterine Myoma, Adenomyosis, Endometriosis Patients (자궁근종, 자궁선근증, 자궁내막증 환자 55명의 스트레스 정도와 어혈증(瘀血證) 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to know stress and blood stasis pattern for the patients who had hysterectomy related with uterine myoma, adenomyosis, endometriosis. Methods: We got questionnaires from 55 patients among 243 patients who had hysterectomy related with uterine myoma, adenomyosis, endometriosis in the department of obstetrics and gynecology, OO medical center from April 11th 2010 to October 14th 2010, and analyzed them. We conducted correlation analysis between age, pain(VAS), duration of pain and blood stasis score, and between duration of pain, blood stasis score and the sum of Stress Response Index. We compared the sum of Stress Response Index, blood stasis score, VAS according to the result of pathology. For statistics, we used Pearson's correlation coefficient, Mann-Whitney test, oneway analysis of variances(ANOVA) and SPSS version 17.0 for windows. Results: The correlation between duration of pain and blood stasis score showed statistical significance. The correlation between sum of the Stress Response Index and blood stasis score showed statistical significance. There is no statistically correlation between age, VAS, duration of the pain and blood stasis score. There is no statistically significant difference in sum of Stress Response Index, blood stasis score, VAS according to the result of pathology. Conclusion: The result showed that Stress is related with static blood, and the longer patients suffer from pain, the easier patients' blood to be static. Further study will be needed.
