Objectives : The aim of this study is to suggest approach of oriental medical management and necessity by research of eastern and western medical literatures for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome(CRPS). Methods : We reviewed the clinical and experimental literatures of eastern and western concerned with CRPS which is related causation, signs and symptoms, diagnosis, etiology and management. Results : 1. CRPS is divided into type I and II by nerve injury. Two types of CRPS have been recognized: type I, corresponds to RSD and occurs without a definable nerve lesion, and type II, formerly called causalgia refers to cases where a definable nerve lesion is present. These conditions can be charaterized clinically by the sensory abnormalities, vascular abnormalities, oedema, sweating abnormalities, motor or trophic changes. 2. CRPS are well known to patients and physicians relatively, but the pathophysiology, causation and treatments are still unclear. 3. CRPS is needed to take the early diagnosis and multidisciplinary approach for significant effect. 4. CRPS can be regarded for obstruction syndrome of Ki and blood(痺證), blood stasis(瘀血), Wei symptom(痿證), numbness(痲木) in the oriental medical management of CRPS. Conclusions : Above the results, it is suggested that further studies and active approach of management of CRPS will be conducted precisely in oriental medicine.
Since ${\ll}$Hwangjenaegyeong(黃帝內經)${\gg}$ and ${\ll}$Nangyeong(難經)${\gg}$, there has been various methods in pulse diagnosis. The Chon-gu(寸口)/Inyeong(人迎) Pulse Comparison Diagnosis which is dealt with in many chapters of the ${\ll}$Hwangjenaegyeong${\gg}$, has not been as widely applied as the Chon-gu Pulse Diagnosis due to several limitations. In this paper, we will review these limitations and suggest an alternative method. In the Chon-gu/Inyeong Pulse Comparison Diagnosis, we compare the Chon-gu Pulse and the Inyeong Pulse to see which is larger than the other by times, and diagnose illness of the 12 Meridian Pulse. It is fairly clear which is larger than the other, but to determine by how much accurately is quite difficult to say. However if we combine the Five Viscera Pulse in application, it becomes far more easier to determine which viscera and bowel is ill. First, study the pulse of the Chon-gu and In-yeong, then determine the Viscera Pulse. Next, determine the larger pulse between the Chon-gu and In-yeong pulse.
Objectives : The purpose of this case is to report the improvement of the patients with Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis(ADEM) after acupuncture, moxibustion, and herbal medicine. Methods : We treated the patients with acupuncture, moxibustion and herbal medication. Results : We treated two cases of Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis(ADEM). These two patients improved significantly through treatment, acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal medicine, and western medicine. Conclusions : In Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM), the initial diagnosis is important, and through a collaboration of Western and Korean medicine, we were able to achieve meaningful treatment results.

Methods : We searched for papers which had used cold hypersensitivity in korean journals. Results : 25 papers were found. 10 papers were associated with characteristics of cold hypersensitivity. 8 papers were associated with case study. 5 papers were associated with diagnosis. 2 papers were associated with research for treatment effect. Conclusion : Studies have been conducted on cold hypersensitivity in various fields. But evidence is not enough, so more research will be needed.
The study was to investigate the agreement rate between the statistical diagnosis of pattern identification by discriminant analysis and the clinical diagnosis of pattern identification by medical specialist in obese patients with BMI$\geqq$23. The agreement rate of deficiency of the spleen, phlegm-retention, deficiency of Yang, retention of undigested food, stagnation of liver Gi, and blood stagnation are 0.40, 0.33, 0.52, 0.76, 0.71, and 0.66, respectively and accuracy rate and prediction rate using linear discriminant function are 0.59 and 0.61, respectively. Therefore, the complementary management in CRF questionnaires and/or consultation from experts will improve the accuracy and prediction rate, which will be helpful for pattern identification of obesity by clinical experts.
Objectives : Among the patients at Seoul Veterans Hospital, there is a great demand for oriental medical treatments, and the number of patients of oriental medical part is on the increase. The purpose of this study is to show patients inclination statistically. Methods : The study was carried out on the 1045 patients came to Seoul veterans hospital from April 2003 to May 2004. Results & Conclusions : 1. Most of men patients were veterans. They had neurological disorder or cerebrovascular disease that was ongoing for 1~5 years before diagnosis and they were treated less than 10 times. 2. Most of women patients were nursing their family. They had musculoskeletal disease that was ongoing 1 week before diagnosis and they were treated less than 10 times. 3. Under the current system, only acupuncture and other limited treatments are provided to patients due to the limited funding from the government. There were few patients who had an internal disease because they needed to be herbal treated. If the government funding were provided, they would be able to be treated.

Leukemia is a blood disease that occurs in the abnormal process of leukocyte maturation. Its main medical treatment is chemical therapy and bone medical transplant. But its treatments give rise to ill effects and sequela. At present, the cause of leukemia is not fully understood. But oriental concept of curing leukemia is the holistic thinking that emphasizes the unity, wholeness, and the relationship between the human organs, including western medical concept of blood cause. So it is estimated that holistic medical treatment in oriental medicine could present new medical way of curing leukemia. I read over the diary on struggles against leukemia, survey on the leukemia patients, and, medical charts in the oriental clinics that treated in the holistic way, and I interviewed the leukemia patients. With these materials, I classified the early main attacking symptoms according to the chief complaints of one hundred leukemia patients. With these results collected, I present new alternative treatment by oriental medical diagnosis. The chief early complaints that leukemia patients give are fatigue, enervation, cold, contusion, fever, high fever, sweating at sleep, myalgia, arthralgia, and dizziness, in order of main symptoms. Fatigue occurs mainly by spleen and stomach weakness and marrow shortage. So it is estimated that It is important to treat the spleen that is responsible for supplementing the marrow. Because the leukemia patients have anemia and hemorrhage, to treat the spleen is important for hematopoiesis and controlling blood. In case of cold, it penetrates into the body when the body is weak. So its treatment is to increase body's health. But the cause of fever is difficult to classify into outer cause and inner cause. But in case of children under 14 years old, fever is the main sypmptom. I think this is because children have the body with pure vital energy. Hemorrhage is thought to be the result of yin-lack and heat-miasma of spleen and stomach channels. Contusion occurs from the qi-weakness and the not-controlling-blood. Sweating at sleep is from the yin-weakness. It is found with all weak symptoms. Dizziness is from the yin-blood impairment. Weight-loss is from the marrow shortage. Myalgia and arthralgia is mainly from inner weakness, not outer maisma. Most leukemia patients have the idea that holistic treatment of leukemia could be of assistance and give help to the low immunity. So it is expected that holistic medical treatment could contribute to knowing the cause and treatment of leukemia, and give people reliability on oriental medical treatment, through the profound diagnosis of leukemia.
General health exanimation comes into operation to focus on physical inspection for industrial workers and doesn't contain oriental health care. Thus we need information of health status and disease prevention, so develop a questionnaire software for health examination in oriental medicine. Items of this soft ware consists of personal information and symptoms to could check oneself , pulse and tongue diagnosis by oriental medical doctor. Symptoms are made up of syndrome differentiation about Qi and blood, Yin and Yang, body fluid, five Zang organs, Sasang Constitutional Medicine. And we reconstruct 116 items by whole body, chest and abdomen, urine and feces, head, limbs, waist and back, five sensory organs, objective signs. A subject enter symptoms and a oriental medical doctor input diagnosis of pulse and tongue, then this software return the result of health index and explanation for oriental health care. This software would be used as tool not only health examination but also clinical research.
Objectives: Using algometer, measure the pressure pain threshold (PPT) of the epigastric pain(心下痞硬) and calculate the cut-off value, and this can serve as the basis for prognostic diagnosis of functional dyspepsia so we would like to evaluate its diagnostic value. Methods: We investigated 353 patients with functional dyspepsia symptoms who admitted Gangnam Weedahm Oriental Hospital from February 1, 2021 to February 27, 2021. At the time of the patient's visit, an oriental medical doctor measured the pressure at the first pain point on the Algometer of (CV14), twice each, at 1minute intervals. The ROC (receiver operating characteristic) curve and the optimal cut-off value derived through the diagnosis of the (CV14) PPT value for epigastric pain(心下痞硬) and the gold standard of oriental medical doctor, it was evaluated through. Results: In 353 patients, the area under the ROC curve (AUC) was 0.909 (p=0). In addition, the optimal cutting value was 10.05 (kg/cm2), which was statistically significant. Additionally, the sensitivity of the Algometer's PPT measurement was 0.704 and the specificity was 0.884. As a result, if the PPT value of the Algometer exceeds 10.05 (kg/cm2) in terms of the optimal cutting value, it can be seen that epigastric pain(心下痞硬) is lost. Conclusion: Algometer's PPT value measurement can be a reliable test method for quantification of epigastric pain(心下痞硬) diagnosis and can be useful as an objective indicator.
Adverse reactions to foods are common and increasing problems worldwide. It is important to differentiate between the different forms of adverse reactions to foods, in particular the difference between food intolerance and food allergy. Food allergy is an adverse immunologic response to food and typically rapid in onset, whereas food intolerance is consequence of a variety of non-immune mechanisms and slow in onset. It has been difficult to diagnose food intolerance because of lack of diagnosis measure. There are now effective findings to identify food intolerance, and paradigms with food allergy are shifting. Food intolerance affects virtually every part of the body-from mildly uncomfortable symptoms to severe illness. While there is no known simple 'cure' for food allergy and food intolerance, there are a number of measures that will help avoid and lessen symptoms and correct the underlying causes. We focus the diagnosis and treatment of food intolerance through various views.
