In oder to acquire microbial agents that can be utilized for control of aflatoxin produced by Aspergillus. flavus and Asp. parasiticus, antifungal bacteria were isolated. Antifungal bacteria was identified as Bacillus spp. based on morphology and physico-biochemical characteristics. Amount of aflatoxin $B_1$ from Doenjang(soybean paste) prepared with Asp. flavus, Asp. parasiticus, antifungal bacteria(Bacillus sp.), or mixture of Asp. flavus and Asp. parasiticus was 27.2 ppb, 30.3 ppb, 3.4 ppb, and 3.7 ppb, respectively. Aflatoxin $B_1$ was not detected from Doenjang(control) and Doenjang prepared with antifungal bacteria. Content and compositions of free sugars, fatty acid, organic acid and free amino acid in Doenjang prepared with Asp. flavus and Asp. parasiticus, antifungal bacteria and mixture of Asp. flavus and Asp. parasiticus were not significantly different. For volatile flavor compounds of Doenjang prepared with antifungal bacteria, 2-pentyl furan and butanoic acid were disappeared or reduced, while octadecene compounds were produced. However, those of Doenjang prepared with Asp. flavus or Asp. parasiticus and Doenjang(control) were not significantly different. These results suggested that the antifungal bacteria(Bacillus sp.) inhibited production of aflatoxin and that antifungal bacteria did not effect the quality of Doenjang.
An inorganic filling agent, ATH (alumina trihydrate) was used to induce inorganic-organic coupling by mixing with stearic acid, acryl silane, vinyl silane as surface treatment agents in order to apply as a high voltage insulating material. Volumetric resistivity was shown to vary with surface treatment agents, and the highest value was obtained in case of the mixture with vinyl silane. The dielectric breakdown intensity was shown to decrease gradually and saturate to a stable value, possibly due to the increase of cross link density in the vinyl radicals introduced to silica surface, resulting in stable dielectric breakdown intensity in the final stages. Tracking and flame retardant properties were also shown to be the best among the samples investigated in this study.
A rapid and accurate method is described for the determination of nucleo-bases in rumen micro-organisms. A procedure to satisfactorily hydrolyse the micro-organisms involving reaction with a mixture of readily volatile organic acids (acetic and formic acids) under high pressure, is proposed, and optimal conditions for an analytical procedure with reversed phase HPLC is described. The following nucleobases contents (mmol/kg DM) of rumen micro-organisms were found: Adenine (Ade), 82.62; Guanine (Gua), 61.34; Cytosine (Cyt), 84.61; Thymine (Thy), 35.74; Uracil (Ura), 68.62; Hypoxanthine (Hxn), 13.06; Xanthine (Xn), 8.35. Total purine-N content (g/kg N) of rumen micro-organisms were 99.60. The nucleic acid N content (g/kg N) of microbial isolates were: RNA-N, 109.9; DNA-N, 50.9.
In both 7L and 20L fermentor experiments the level of dissolved oxygen (D.O) strongly affected growth and PHBV production of Azotobacter vinelandii UWD. A higher D.O. increased carbon substrate consumption rate and cell growth rate with a similar residual biomass production. However, a lower D.O. was a much better condition for PHBV production. In a 20L fermentor experiments controlled at 5% D.O. cell growth rate was about twice faster(0.555 hr-1 and 0.260 hr-1 at the acid and the glucose phase, respectively) with an equal amount(4.5 g/L) of residual biomass production. However, PHBV content in the cell(62.3 wt%) increased 17.3 times at 1% D.O.
In this study, quality characteristics of yakju fermented with byeo-nuruk prepared using rice, wheat, and water were investigated. Five different mixture ratios were considered for byeo-nuruk preparation. A comparative analysis of commercial yakju and byeo-nuruk yakju was also performed. The results showed no significant differences in pH, total acidity, and total soluble solids of byeo-nuruk yakju immediately following fermentation. The byeo-nuruk yakju alcohol content increased with increasing wheat proportion. Lactic and succinic acid were the major organic acids of byeo-nuruk yakju, and the major volatile components were isoamyl alcohol and linalool. Yakju prepared using material D had the highest volatile component content and high preference evaluation scores for taste and overall acceptability. Compared to commercial yakju, byeo-nuruk yakju had less total acidity, soluble solids, and volatile acids, whereas its pH level and amino acid content were higher. No significant differences were observed between commercial yakju and byeo-nuruk yakju in terms of sensory evaluation.

An amphiphilic nitroxide radical(2,2'6,6'-tetramethyl-4-octadecyioxy-1-piperidinyloxyl, TEMOPO) or mixture of TEMOPO and arachidic acid(Icosanoic acid, AA), was spread on water surface by the Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) method and surface pressure-area curve was measured. Such monolayer films of TEMOPO were transferred onto surfaces of photo transferable tin oxide electrodes(PTTO) by the LB method under various surface pressure with the transfer ratio of larger than 0.95 at the surface pressure higher than 15mN/m. The electrochemical effect of functional nitroxy radical monolayer onto semi-conductive electrode to electrolyte have been investigated by using LB method. Cyclic voltammetry technique was used for the electrochemical behavior measurement of TEMOPO monolayer onto the PTTO in 0.18 mo1/$dm^3$$H_2SO_4$ solutions. The shape of voltammograms was found to change from one electrode to another. The amount of charge for the oxidation and the re-reduction of the cation to TEMOPO were evaluated from graphical integration. The amounts of charge were always smaller than those predicted from the $\pi$-$\sigma$ curves though the transfer ratio was unity. The poor reproducibility of the cyclic voltammograms was improved by the mixing with AA. Structure and arrangement of monomolecular layer on water surface and electrode were studied. Characteristics of monolayer film applied for the mediation reaction was also discussed by electrochemical method.
The extraction and stripping of HCl from aqueous solutions by commercial extractants like LIX 63 and its mixture with TEHA/ Cyanex 923/ Aliquat 336 and ionic liquids like ALi-SCN, ALi-PC in kerosene was investigated. Among these extractants, ALi-PC showed the best extraction effectivity (above 80%), but it was difficult to strip HCl from the loaded phase. Although the extraction percentage of HCl by LIX 63 was not high, the stripping performance was above 81%. The addition of octanol to the organic phase led to negative effect on the extraction performance of HCl. The addition of C2H5OH into aqueous solutions significantly increased the extraction and stripping percentage of HCl by LIX 63, ALi-PC and ALi-SCN.
The air dried of Epimedium koreanum Nakai was extracted with MeOH and its extractives were concentrated with a vacuum evaporator. The extractives were fractionated with a series of n-hexane, chloroform (${CHCl}_3$), butanol (BuOH), ethyl acetate (EtOAc) and water on a separately funnel. Each fraction was freeze dried to give some dark brown powder. The EtOAc and BuOH soluble fractions were chromatographed on a Sephadex LH-20 column using a series of aqueous methanol and ethanol-n-hexane mixture as eluents. The isolated compounds were tested with a cellulose TLC developed with TBA and 6% acetic acid and then visualized on UV lamp or sprayed with vanillin-HCl-EtOH. The purified compounds were flavonoids and their glycosides, and organic acid as follows : (+)-catechin, icariin, hyperoside, Ikarisoside A and caffeic acid. The structures of each compounds were confirmed by $^1H-NMR,\;^{13}C-NMR$ and Mass spectra. Also, executed qualitative analysis as use GC/MS(Libraries search) about ${CHCl}_3$ soluble compounds of each part.
Carbon black was surface-modified to prepare styrene-based suspension polymerized toner with excellent carbon black dispersibility inside toner particles. Carbon black was oxidized first to introduce hydroxyl groups on the surfaces, then esterification between the hydroxyl groups and carboxyl groups of organic acids (oleic acid, palmitic acid, acrylic acid) was followed to obtain organically surface-modified carbon black. The surface-modification of carbon black was confirmed by FTIR. Apparent carbon black dispersibility in the monomer mixture of the binder resin was tested and the particle size of dispersed carbon black was measured by particle size analyzer. Optical micrographs showed that carbon black dispersibility inside toner particles was improved considerably when the carbon black surfacemodified with oleic acid was used. The polymerized toner prepared with the carbon black surface-modified with oleic acid showed ideal particle size and size distribution as a toner.

Humic acid (HA) is known to consist of various kinds of polymeric organics, their detailed structures can vary depend on sample sources such as organic manure, composts, peat, and lignite brown coal, and largely exists in grassland soils. HA possesses diverse positive effects that not only increase plant growth but also improve soil fertility. Recently, we have manufactured a co-polymeric product of catechol and vanillic acid (CAVA) synthesized artificially, and found that CAVA as a HA mimic increases seed germination and salt tolerance in Arabidopsis. In this study, we examined whether HA or CAVA affects to seedling growth in alfalfa. Foliar application of HA or CAVA increased alfalfa seedling growth including aerial and in root parts. HA or CAVA dramatically enhanced size of leaf and root, whereas HA significantly displayed higher bioactivity than CAVA. Taken together, CAVA acts like as a HA mimic in alfalfa that could apply as an alternation supplement to enhance plant growth and productivity.
