  • An analytical method for particulate carbon and other elements by using elemental analyzer was investigated. Carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen was determined as CO$_{2}$, H$_{2}$, and N$_{2}$, respectively. Organic was determined after scparation from elemental carbon(Cae) by volatilization and thermal decomposition in a heated helium flow. With organic materials examined in this reprot, more than 90% of carbon was detected as above 600$^{\circ}$C. But it is considered that a few percents of some compounds were charred above 550$^{\circ}$C. A small amount of Cae was oxidized in the inert atmosphere above 850$^{\circ}$C, but the reason was not explained clearly. Based on the thermal chracteristics of Cao it was found that the optimum temperature of heating in the helium flow of an elemental analyzer for Cao analysis is 630$^{\circ}$C. Carbon in a sample after removing Cao was assumed as Cae and the gramatom ratio of hydrogen to carbon in the sample was 0.4 and less. Rescovery of nitrogen derived from some ammonium salts and nitrates was 100% by two-step measurement with elemental analyzer. By the analytical method investigated in this report, carbon and other elements in suspended particulates(S.P) collected at an urban area in Seoul were measured. There was a good correlation between total nitrogen in SP measured by elemental analyzer and nitrogen estimated form ammonium ions and nitrate ions in SP. The nitrogen from these ions accounts for 80% of the total nitrogen. It is further suggested that the residue(20%) of the total nitrogen is attributed to the other nitrogeneous compounds.

  • Poly(trimethylene terephthalate-co-trimethylene 2,6-naphthalate)s (P(TT-co-TN)s) with various copolymer composition were synthesized, and their chain structure, thermal property and crystalline structure were investigated by using $^1$H-NMR spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), respectively. It was found from sequence analysis that all the P(TT-co-TN) copolymers synthesized have a statistical random distribution of TT and TN units. It was also observed from DSC thermograms that the glass transition temperature increases linearly with increasing the TN comonomer content, whereas the melting temperature of copolymer decreases with increasing the corresponding comonomer content in respective PTT- and PTN-based copolymer, showing pseudo-eutectic melting behavior. All the samples melt-crystallized isothermally except for P(TT-co-66 mol % TN) exhibit multiple melting endotherms and clear X-ray diffraction patterns. The multiple melting behavior originates from the dual lamellar population and/or the melting-recrystallization-remelting. The X-ray diffraction patterns are largely divided into two classes depending on the copolymer composition, i.e., PTT and PTN $\beta$-form diffraction patterns, without exhibiting cocrystallization.

  • The purpose of this paper was to measure technical efficiencies and scale efficiencies of Korean seed industry by DEA method, and to identify the factors affecting the efficiencies by Tobit regression model. Survey data of 50 seed companies nationwide were applied for the analysis. The average score of overall technical efficiency for the surveyed companies in 2012 was 0.44, which is decomposed into pure technical efficiency 0.68 and scale efficiency 0.63. A majority of the seed companies exhibited at least one form of inefficiency except a few companies in optimal scale. It was also shown the most companies were operating in the stage of increasing returns to scale, which implies Korean seed companies are mainly in smaller scale than optimal. Additional results suggest that the Center for Private Seed Companies, which will be established at Gimje in 2015, plays an important role to make domestic seed companies improve their scale efficiency as well as pure technical efficiency by way of enlarging their size and co-using the high technology in the Center.

  • It is imperative to find environment-friendly coatings as an alternative to the currently used hexavalent chromate conversion coatings for the purpose of improving the anti-corrosion properties of aluminum alloys. Hence, in this study, the corrosion properties of a trivalent chromate conversion coating solution are analyzed and measured. Because of the presence of multiple components in trivalent chromate conversion coating solutions, it is difficult to control plating, attributed to their mutual organic relationship. It is of significance to determine the concentrations of the components present in these coatings; hence, qualitative and quantitative analysis is required. The coating solution contained not only an environment-friendly component chromium(III), but also zirconium, fluorine, sulfur, and potassium, in the coating film. These metals are confirmed to produce a film with improved corrosion resistance to form a thin layer. The excellent corrosion resistance for the trivalent chromate solution is attributed to various inorganic and organic additives.

  • Effects of surfactants and natural organic matter (NOM) on the sorption and reduction of tetrachloroethylene (PCE) and chromate with iron were examined in this study. PCE and chromate reduction by iron depended on the ionic type of the surfactants in this study. The apparent reaction rate constants of PCE with Triton X-100 and hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium (HDTMA) at one half and two times of the critical micelle concentration (CMC) were relatively higher than without surfactants because of the enhanced PCE partitioning and surface concentration. In the presence of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDDBS) at 2000 mg/L and NOM at 50 mg/L, the apparent reaction rate constants of PCE increased, but TCE production decreased. The enhanced removal rate of PCE was not due to the dechlorination, and the sorption was dominant iron with SDDBS and NOM. The apparent reaction rate constants of chromate by iron with Triton X-100 and NOM were 1.4-3.1 times lower than without surfactants while that with HDTMA was two times higher than without HDTMA, When the sorbed HDTMA molecules form admicelles, negatively-charged chromate has an affinity for the positively-charged HDTMA head group.

  • In this work a thermodynamic performance analysis is carried out for a combined cycle consisted of an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) and a LNG cycle. The combined system uses a low grade waste heat in the form of sensible energy and the LNG cold energy is used for power generation as well as for heat sink. The effects of the key parameters of th system such as turbine inlet pressure, condensation temperature and source temperature on the characteristics of system are throughly investigated. The simulation results show that the thermodynamic performance of the combined system can be significantly improved compared to the normal ORC which is not using the LNG cold energy.

  • Vitamin and mineral deletion from swine diets can result in reduced growth if done during the period wher muscle and bone development is occurring. Several of the vitamins and minerals decline in the serum during the starter period, suggesting a higher dietary inclusion may be necessary postweaning. Vitamin research with grower-finisher pigs is limited, but results suggest that rapidly growing lean pigs may have a higher dietary requirement for the B vitamins. Several studies have suggested that early weaning and pigs of a lean genotype may have a dietary requirement for vitamin C, CI and Cr. High dietary vitamin E levels are fortified in the diet and seems to be effective in preventing mulberry heart problems in weanling and grower pigs. Organic Se is more effectively retained in muscle tissue than inorganic Se, approximately 20% less is excreted, but the bioavailability of organic Se for glutathione peroxidase activity is only 80 to 90% to that of sodium selenite. The active form of thyroxine (T4) is dependent upon a Se containing enzyme. Withdrawal of vitamins and minerals during the latter part of the finisher period has not affected pig performance responses, but studies with poultry suggest that the vitamin content of the meat may be reduced if the vitamins are withdrawn prior to marketing. High levels of vitamin E have been shown to improve pork quality, by reducing drip loss. Studies with vitamin C and Se have suggested that they may also be involved in pork quality.

  • Using a density functional theory calculation including van der Waals (vdW) corrections, we report that $H_2$ adsorption in a cubic-crystalline microporous metal-organic framework (MOF-5) leads to volume shrinkage, which is in contrast to the intuition that gas adsorption in a confined system (e.g., pores in a material) increases the internal pressure and then leads to volumetric expansion. This extraordinary phenomenon is closely related to the vdW interactions between MOF and $H_2$ along with the $H_2$-$H_2$ interaction, rather than the Madelung-type electrostatic interaction. At low temperatures, $H_2$ molecules adsorbed in the MOF-5 form highly symmetrical interlinked nanocages that change from a cube-like shape to a sphere-like shape with $H_2$ loading, helping to exert centrosymmetric forces and hydrostatic (volumetric) stresses from the collection of dispersive interactions. The generated internal negative stress is sufficient to overcome the stiffness of the MOF-5 which is a soft material with a low bulk modulus (15.54 GPa).

Organic matter thin film that accumulate molecular film in archaism board only that consist of growth of domain can understand correct special quality of accumulation film supplying information about fine structure and properties of matter of device observing information and so on that is surface forward player and optic enemy using AFM one of SPM application by nano electronics. The stable images are probably due to a strong interaction between the monolayer film and glass substrate. We are unable to obtain molecule resolution in images of the films but did see a marked contrast between images of the bare substrate and those with the network structure film deposited onto it. • After their first appearance on Earth, bacteria have exerted significant influence on geochemical behavior of elements. Numerous evidence of their control on geochemistry through geologic history has been observed in a variety of natural environments. They have mediated weathering rate, formation of secondary minerals, redox transformation of metals and metalloids, and thus global cycling of elements. Such ability of bacteria receives so considerable attention from microbiologists, mineralogists, geologists, soil scientists, limnologists, oceanographers, and atmospheric scientists as well as geochemists that a new and interdisciplinary field of research called 'geomicrobiology' is currently expanding. Some recent subjects of geomicrobiology which are studied extensively are as follows: 1) Functional groups distributed on bacterial cell walls adsorb dissolved cations onto cell surfaces by electrostatic surface complexation, which is followed by hydrous mineral formation. 2) Dissimilatory metal reducing bacteria conserve energy to support growth by oxidation of organic matter coupled to reduction of some oxidized metals and/or metalloids. They can be effectively used in remediating environments contaminated with U, As, Se, and Cr. 3) Bacteria increase the rate of mineral dissolution by excreting proton and ligands such as organic acids into aqueous system. 4) Thorough investigation on the effects of biofilm on geochemical processes is needed, because most bacteria are adsorbed on solid substrates and form biofilms in natural settings.
