  • This study is aimed to retain objectivity and generality against consumer perception about seafood of Hebei Spirit oil spill incident area, and analyze gap of consumer perception in according to confidence level of seafood using ordinal logit model. As results, This article have three implications. First, Consumer don't have high confidence level in comparison with previous research. Second, It is important to retain confidence of quality for purchasing seafood of oil spill incident area. Third, Consumer perception is improved positively against seafood of oil spill area. But This study has limits that don't take regional opinion and situation into account.

  • This paper deals with an optimal process control problem in production of hull structural steel plate with high defective rate. The main quality characteristic(dependent variable) is the internal quality(defect) of plates and is dependent on process parameters(independent variables). The dependent variable(quality characteristics) has three categorical ordinal data and there are 35 independent variables(29 continuous variables and 6 categorical variables). In this paper, we determine the main factors and to develop the mathematical model between internal quality predicted probabilities and the main factors. Secondly, we find out the optimal process condition of main factors through analysis of variance(ANOVA) using simulation. We consider three models to obtain the main factors and the optimal process condition: linear, quadratic, error models.

  • A new evaluation technique, i.e. multicriterion matrix technique, on the vegetation assessment was proposed and compared with several techniques having been previously used in the environmental impact assessment. Four criterias and 10 subcriterias were selected for two evaluation indices such as vegetation naturalness value and vegetation class. These criterias were characterized by syntaxonomical informations of hemeroby concept and potential vegetation, hierarchical system between criterias, and ordinal scale of vegetation naturalness valuse. Vegetation naturalness values were classified into 11 ordinal levels and condensed to five vegetation classes for facilitating practical use. In the example study two sites were compared by using two indices. This technique could have useful applications for ssessment of regional vegetation. A vegetation map of naturalness described by combination of two indices was proposed in order to illustrate regional vegetation naturalness.

  • This paper proposes a signature using dominant singular values for video sequence matching. By considering the input image as matrix A, a partition procedure is first performed to separate the matrix into non-overlapping sub-images of a fixed size. The SVD(Singular Value Decomposition) process decomposes matrix A into a singular value-singular vector factorization. As a result, singular values are obtained for each sub-image, then k dominant singular values which are sufficient to discriminate between different images and are robust to image size variation, are chosen and normalized as the signature for each block in an image frame for matching between the reference video clip and the query one. Experimental results show that the proposed video signature has a better performance than ordinal signature in ROC curve.

  • The comparative evaluation is the most effective method for site selection because the selection of waste treatment facility is to determine the optimum site out of limited candidate sites. This study adopted the ordinal scale evaluation, one of methods of comparative evaluation. The ordinal scale evaluation aims to determine the investigating items referring to the character of sites, to determine the importance factors for investigating items, and to determine the optimum site according to the quantitative evaluation. This study has focussed on reflecting the opinion of residents to the maximum extent with a weight on social and economic aspects, considering the state of confrontation against each other between the autonomous government organization and local residents, which is being emerged as a social issue relating to the evaluation rating on each item of site selection of an optimum site. Therefore, rational, and clear validity investigations and proper reduction of both time and expenses in site selection as well through this a study.

  • This paper describes a hierarchical method for image-based age estimation that combines age group classification and age value estimation. The proposed method uses a coarse-to-fine strategy with different appearance features to describe facial shape and texture. Considering the damage to continuity between neighboring groups caused by fixed divisions during age group classification, a dynamic grouping technique is employed to allow non-fixed groups. Based on the given group, an ordinal hyperplane ranking (OHRank) model is employed to transform age estimation into a series of binary enquiry problems that can take advantage of the intrinsic correlation and ordinal information of age. A set of experiments on FG-NET are presented and the results demonstrate the validity of our solution.

  • Cumulative logit random effects models are typically used to analyze longitudinal ordinal data. The random effects covariance matrix is used in the models to demonstrate both subject-specific and time variations. The covariance matrix may also be homogeneous; however, the structure of the covariance matrix is assumed to be homoscedastic and restricted because the matrix is high-dimensional and should be positive definite. To satisfy these restrictions two Cholesky decomposition methods were proposed in linear (mixed) models for the random effects precision matrix and the random effects covariance matrix, respectively: modified Cholesky and moving average Cholesky decompositions. In this paper, we use these two methods to model the random effects precision matrix and the random effects covariance matrix in cumulative logit random effects models for longitudinal ordinal data. The methods are illustrated by a lung cancer data set.

  • Every group G has a unique maximal normal locally nilpotent subgroup $\Phi(G)$, called the Hirsh-Plotkin radical of G [9]. If G is a group, we define the upper Hirsh-Plotkin series of G to be the ascending series $1 = R_0 \leq R_1 \leq \ldots$ in which $R_{\alpha+1}/R_\alpha = \{Phi(G/R_\alpha)$ for each ordinal $\alpha and R_\beta = \cup_{\alpha<\beta}R_\alpha$ for each limit ordinal $\beta$. If $R_r = G$ for some natural number r, then G is said to have locally nilpotent length r. $(LN)^r$ denotes the calss of groups of locally nilpotent length at most r.

  • The purposes of this study are to analyze the effect of consumption of environment-friendly agricultural products (EFAP) on improvement of family health, and to suggest directions for improvement of family health. A survey was conducted for qualitative analysis regarding relationship between EFAP consumption and family health. The method of his study was employed Cross-tabulation and an Ordinal Logistic Regression Model to derive more significant results in analyzing factors of improvement of family health. The result shows that improvement of health has a significant positive relationship with consumption of EFAP. In addition, those consumers with high reliability and quality contentment are more likely to experience improvement of health. As consumers constantly eat EFAP, they are more likely to experience improvement of health. In order to provide consumer reliability of EFAP, more strict certification management system with sound monitoring and an appropriate penalty for violation should be established.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze consumption of homemade organically processed food (HOPF), and to derive directions for consumption promotion of HOPF. A survey was conducted for quantitative analysis regarding consumption. This study used an Ordinal Logistic Regression Model to derive more significant results in analyzing factors of consumption. The findings was that younger consumers with high income are more likely to purchase HOPF. And those consumers with high price and quality contentment are more likely to purchase HOPF. And contentment with certification institutions and improvement of health have a significant positive relationship with consumption. Consumers were found to pay 51 percent more for HOPF than for non-HOPF products. This level show that the current level of price premium for HOPF is 51 percent higher than their desired level. In order to reduce the price premium for HOPF, effective policy programs should be developed. A targeted market strategy to sell HOPF to younger consumers with high income is needed to boost consumption. A strict certification management system should be established to enhance consumer reliability in HOPF.
