We present a color-magnitude (CM) diagram of M35, an open cluster. A DSLR camera was used for measuring the color index with the RGB channels. It is cost-effective and has relatively easy controls compared to astronomical CCDs for educational environments. The 8-inch refracting telescope was used at the Korea Science Academy of KAIST in Busan. The B-G color index was obtained from observations and the magnitudes from publications in order to draw CM diagram. The linear correlation of B-G to B-V is found. The RGB channel of the DSLR camera can be easily represented on the CM diagram for astronomical education with aid of easy controls.
Fabric touch was evaluated psychophysically in order to determine the relationship between mechanical properties and subjective sensation. For subjective touch sensation, eight aspects such as hardness, smoothness, coarseness, coolness, pliability, crispness, heaviness and thickness were evaluated using free modulus magnitude estimation (FEME) technique. KES-FB was used to measure the mechanical properties of fabrics. Woolen fabric with the highest values of WC and weight was evaluated as the coarsest, heaviest and thickest. While silk crepe do chine with the lowest LT, G, 2HG, thickness and weight was rated as smoother and more pliable than any other fabrics. And flax with the highest values of LT and SMD was evaluated as hard, cool and crisp. Fabric touch and satisfaction were predicted well from the mechanical properties, especially from SMD, by regression analysis. Satisfaction for touch increased as smoothness increased.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the magnitude and distribution of stress using a photoelastic model from a distal extension removable partial dentures with three kinds of mandibular major connectors, that is, lingual bar, linguoplate, and swing-lock attachment. A photoelastic model was made of the epoxy resin(PC-1) and hardener(PCH-1) and coated with plastic cement-1 (PC-1) at the lingual surface of the epoxy model and set with three kinds of chrome-cobalt removable partial dentures. A bilateral vertical load of 15kg to the middle portion of the metal bar crossing both the first molars of the right and the left, and a unilateral vertical load of 12.5kg to the right first molar were applied with the use of specially designed loading device and the reflective circular polariscope was used to analyze the photoelastic model under each condition. The following results were obtained : 1. When the bilateral vertical load was applied, the magnitude and distribution of the stress concentration of the edentulous area and the terminal abutment or adjacent teeth was in the order of lingual bar, linguoplate, swing-lock attachment. 2. When the unilateral vertical load was applied, the magnitude and distribution of the stress concentration of the edentulous area and the terminal abutment or adjacent teeth was in the order of lingual bar, linguoplate, swing-lock attachment. 3. When the unilateral vertical load was applied, the magnitude and distribution of the stress concentration of the termial abutment or adjacent teeth on the non-loaded side showed the least stress distribution in case of swing-lock attachment. 4. When the bilateral vertical load and the unilateral vertical load were applied the swing-lock attachment showed the mildest uniform stress distribution on the edentulous area and the alveolar bone around the abutment teeth.

This paper presents new methods to resolve the important limits in the decoupled UPFC model for power flow, by which conventional power flow program can be performed with addition of two buses per one UPFC. In order to operate UPFC to the desired value, the series voltage and shunt current of UPFC should be computed. So a method of calculating these by simple equations after power flow is derived. However, the calculated magnitude of series voltage and/or shunt current of UPFC may not be allowed because of the UPFC limit \ulcorner to the ratings of inverters. In this case, the active power and the reactive power (or the voltage magnitude) of UPFC buses should be revised to resolve the limit. This paper proposes the Newton Raphson method to resolve these limits. Particularly, when resolving the series voltage magnitude, three strategies are proposed according to the priority of the active power and the reactive power (or the voltage magnitude).

This paper introduces a sway suppression control for container cranes with unknown payloads and sway rates. With no priori knowledge concerning the magnitude of payload mass and sway rate, the proposed control maintains superior sway suppressing and trolley positioning against external disturbances. The proposed scheme combines a second order sliding mode control and an adaptive control to cope with unknown payloads. A second order sliding mode control without feedback of the sway rate is first designed, which is based on a class of feedback linearization methods for stabilization of the under-actuated sway dynamics of the container. Under applicable restrictions of the magnitude of payload inertia and sway rate, a linear regression model is obtained, and an adaptive control with a payload estimator is then designed, which is based on Lyapunov stability methods for the fast attenuation of trolley oscillations in the vicinity of the target position. The asymptotic stability of the overall closed-loop system is assured irrespective of variations of rope length. Simulation are shown in the existence of initial sway and external wind disturbances.

In this study, the dynamic behaviour of a rotating Timoshenko beam when under the actions of a variable magnitude load moving at non-uniform speed is carried out. The effect of cross-sectional dimension and damping on the flexural motions of the elastic beam was neglected. The coupled second order partial differential equations incorporating the effects of rotary and gyroscopic moment describing the motions of the beam was scrutinized in order to obtain the expression for the dynamic deflection and rotation of the vibrating system using an elegant technique called Galerkin's Method. Analyses of the solutions obtained were carried out and various results were displayed in plotted curve. It was found that the response amplitude of the simply supported beam increases with an increase in the value of the foundation reaction modulus. Effects of other vital structural parameters were also established.

This paper presents two fast least-squares lattice algorithms for adaptive nonlinear filters equipped with bilinear system models. The lattice filters perform a Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization of the input data and have very good numerical properties. Furthermore, the computational complexity of the algorithms is an order of magnitude snaller than previously algorithm is an order of magnitude smaller than previously available methods. The first of the two approaches is an equation error algorithm that uses the measured desired response signal directly to comprte the adaptive filter outputs. This method is conceptually very simple`however, it will result in biased system models in the presence of measurement noise. The second approach is an approximate least-squares output error solution. In this case, the past samples of the output of the adaptive system itself are used to produce the filter output at the current time. Results of several experiments that demonstrate and compare the properties of the adaptive bilinear filters are also presented in this paper. These results indicate that the output error algorithm is less sensitive to output measurement noise than the squation error method.

We propose a method of paramete estimation using order-of-magnitude analysis for optimal boundary smoothing in Mean Field Annealing(MFA) technique in this paper. We previously proposed two boundary smoothing methods for consistent object representation in the previous paper, one is using a constratined regulaization(CR) method and the other is using a MFA method. The CR method causes unnecessary smoothing effects at corners. On the other hand, the MFA method method smooths our the noise without losing sharpness of corners. The MFA algorithm is influenced by several parameters such as standard deviation of the noise, the relativemagnitude of prior ter, initial temperature and final temperature. We propose a general parameter esimation method for optimal boundary smoothing using order-of-magnitude analysis to be used for consistent object representation in this paper. In addition, we prove the effectiveness of our parameter estimation and also show the temperature parameter sensitivities of the algorithm.

Tact Electrical conductivity. optical absorption spectra of poly(p-phenylene vinylene) and their dependence on stretching are discussed in detail. The conductivity in the parallel direction to the stretching is higher over one order in magnitude than that in the perpendicular direction to the stretching is higher over one order in magnitude than that in the perpendicular direction to the stretching. The photocurrent spectrum for the ligh polarized parallel to the chain direction is much enhanced in lower photon energy compared with that for the light polarized perpendicular to that direction. The result may be originated in the difference of energies which is needed to photogenerate carriers wi th the light polarized parallel and perpendicular to the chain stretched direction.

The purpose of this study is to analyse the hazard risk by examining the magnitude and severity of each type of hazard in order to mitigate and prepare for disasters in medical facilities. Methods: The hazard risk analysis for hazard types was surveyed for team leaders of medical facilities. The questionnaire analyzed data from 27 facilities, which were returned from 41 Local Medical Centers. Results: When looking at the 'Risk' by category type of hazard, the influence of health safety and fire/energy safety comes first, followed by natural disaster, facility safety, and crime safety. On the other hand, as for 'Magnitude', facility safety and crime safety come first, followed by health safety, fire/energy safety, and natural disasters. Most of the top types of disaster judged to have high hazard in medical facilities are health types. The top five priorities of hazard in medical facilities, they are affected by the geographical and industrial conditions of the treatment area. In the case of cities, the hazard was found to be high in the order of infectious disease, patient surge, and wind and flood damage. On the other hand, in rural areas, livestock diseases and infectious diseases showed the highest hazard. In the case of forest areas, the hazard was high in the order of wildfire, fire accident, lightning, tide, earthquake, and landslide, whereas in coastal areas of industrial complexes, the hazard was high due to fire, landslide, water pollution, marine pollution, and chemical spill accident. Implications: Through the research, standards will be established for the design of hospitals with disaster preparedness, and will contribute to the preparation of preemptive measures in terms of maintenance.
