  • This study examines the relationship between recuperation nurses' oral health knowledge and perceptions and senile denture management behavior. For this study, 198 recuperation nurses who work in recuperation facilities for elderly patients in Andong City, Gyeongsangbuk-do, are surveyed. The data are investigated statistically using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analyses, and logistics regression analyses. The analyses results demonstrate that the rate of correct answers for oral health knowledge of recuperation nurses is 76.5%. The relationship between oral health perceptions and oral health knowledge is 0.324, which is slightly high correlation(p<0.01). In addition, the potential of senile denture management behavior is more likely among nurses who have high levels of oral health knowledge and perceptions. Therefore, it is necessary to explore measures that can promote denture management and oral health for the elderly who enter recuperation facilities through helping raise the level of recuperation nurses' oral health knowledge and perceptions.

To investigate the relationship between smoking and oral health status, composite sample Chi-square analysis and composite sample logistic regression analysis were performed using the fifth and sixth Korean National Health and Nutritional Examination Surveys. Results: Higher percentages of smokers were males in their 30s, high school graduates, single, with annual drinking habits, and higher stress perception. Analysis of smokers by year showed that smokers' rates decreased in all groups. Conclusions: This study suggests that smoking and sociodemographic factors are relevant to oral health status. The findings may be useful for informing the development of a personalized oral health promotion program for smokers.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide information about the development of curricula geared toward improving the oral health of college students and of oral-health education programs in an effort to teach college students to be knowledgeable about oral health throughout their lives. The subjects in this study were 455 students at three different colleges in Gyeonggi province, on whom a survey was conducted. As for the basic oral health care of the college students investigated, 54.5 percent had ever visited a dental clinic over the last year, and 34.7 percent had their teeth scaled over the last year. Regarding self-awareness of current oral health state, 77 percent felt there s something wrong with their oral health. Concerning the correlation of their oral health behavior and knowledge to each selected variable, better internal and external locus of control led to better oral health promotion behaviors and better oral health knowledge. As to their self-perception of oral health and influential factors, better toothbrushing, better dietary habits and periodical oral examination, which belonged to oral health promotion behaviors, were followed by better oral health locus of control, and higher concern for oral health led to better oral health locus of control as well. Better toothbrushing, better dietary habits, periodical oral examination and better internal locus of control were concurrent with higher interest in oral health. Better external locus of control and stronger concern for oral health were accompanied by better oral health promotion behaviors.

  • This study aims to understand the relationship between the awareness of oral health prevention and general characteristics by investigating the awareness of oral health prevention and to provide basic data to make oral health education guidelines for oral health prevention and the need for oral health prevention by analyzing factors that influence the awareness of oral health prevention. For about a month since December 2016, the data of 380 people aged 10 and over residing in Seoul and the Gyeonggi Province was gathered, and the following results have been obtained after excluding 19 people whose answers were insufficient. It was found that gender (female, p<0.05), age (50 years and over, p<0.05), educational background (high school diploma and university diploma or higher, p<0.05), average monthly income (KRW 3.0 million - 4.0 million, p<0.05), oral health importance (p<0.001), and awareness of the need for oral health prevention (p<0,001) among the selected independent variables had statistically significant effects on the awareness of oral health prevention. Considering the results above, I believe that it is important to develop oral health education programs, which reflect the characteristics of people in order to motivate them to perform prevention activities, rather than education programs about simply acquiring knowledge for prevention activities and to establish social conditions that can enable continued education, in order to increase the awareness of oral health prevention activities.

Higher the stress, higher the pain recognition, revealing a statistical significance. The awareness on bad breath-related symptoms was significantly higher in the adolescents with male sex, higher degree of stress, and lower frequency of daily toothbrushing. The lower awareness on halitosis was associated with higher income and higher subjective perception of oral health, showing a statistical significance. This study found that the health behavior of adolescents had an effect on their oral symptoms and the finding is expected to help develop programs for preventing those oral symptoms.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception, practice status and perceived oral health awareness of oral hygiene products in high school students and to utilize it as basic data for the development of programs that can use the correct oral hygiene products. The results of the self -filling questionnaire survey of 260 high school students in K area were as follows. (P <0.05), which showed a positive correlation with subjective oral health perception (p <0.05). his implies the need for education of oral hygiene products for proper practice in using oral hygiene products. The use of oral hygiene products was the highest in 1/3, but in practice, the total use was highest. It is thought that oral health education program that can affect not only the oral health education but also the practice is needed. For the students who have difficulty in accessing medical institutions due to their studies, the way to acquire oral health education is more important than the development of public health education programs and the implementation of oral health education.
