Vowels are classified by the shapes of vocal tract. These shapes form constriction points along the tract, which have an influence on such vocal tract resonance as F1, F2, F3, and so on. The formant frequency is influenced by aperture and placement of tongue and the intensity is influenced by air pressure of subglottis. The object of this study compares to characterize the spectral outputs of oral and nasal spectra for the formant frequencies and intensity of Korean oral vowels. Subjects consisted of 20 normal persons (10 male and 10 female) without laryngeal pathology. The speech sample included /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/, /u/ of Korean oral vowels. The spectrum of each vowel was analysed by Nasal View and Real Analysis Program using Dr. Speech. The result showed that nasal intensity is decreased manifestly from F1 to F2. But oral intensity and Intensity is decreased little bit from F1 to F2. The most of values of nasal formant frequency is similarity oral formant frequency and Formant frequency or little bit smaller.
Dental chair unit (DCU) is the most essential equipment for the dental treatment in dentistry. DCU output water is used for various applications during dental treatment. DCU output water must be clean at the same level as drinking water since patients and dental staff are regularly exposed to water and aerosols generated from the DCU. Many studies demonstrated that DCU output water is frequently contaminated with microorganisms including opportunistic pathogen such as Legionella and Pseudomonas species. Thus, DCU output water may be a potential source of infection. In order to reduce microbial contamination levels in DCU output water, periodic management and continuous disinfection are necessary. Currently, there are a variety of disinfection methods for managing DCU output water and its efficacy is also diverse. We reviewed the level of microbial contamination, clinical implications of contaminated DCU output water and the various DCU disinfection methods.

Background: Oral cancer is the most common cancer among men and second only to breast cancer among women in Pakistan. For the effective control and prevention of oral cancer, Pakistan needs to recognize the importance of research and generation of the evidence-base which can inform policy making and planning and implementation of intervention programs. The objective of this review was to quantify oral cancer research output in Pakistan. Materials and Methods: A systematic electronic search in "Medline", "ISI-Web of Science" and "Pakmedinet", supplemented by a Google search, was carried out in January and February, 2014, to identify literature from Pakistan relevant to oral cancer. The selection of publications for the review was carried out according to preset criteria. Data were recorded and analyzed using Microsoft Excel. Results: A total of 166 publications comprising 62 case series, 36 cross sectional, 31 case control, 10 basic laboratory research, eleven reviews and two trials, were included in this review. Some 35 % of the publications focused on risk factors for oral cancer. COMSATS Institute of Information Technology was the institution with the highest contribution. Conclusions: There is a lack of research in the field of oral cancer research in Pakistan. Focused efforts should be put in place to improve both quality and quantity of oral cancer research in the country.

Chyle leaks are uncommon complications after head and neck surgeries. Although uncommon, such a complication is noteworthy mention due to its perplexing diagnosis and management strategies. This scoping review aims to highlight and emphasize the diagnosis and management options proposed in the literature. A comprehensive search was performed in PubMed, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, and Scopus databases and identified 617 articles that were reduced to 40 studies and reports after applying the eligibility criteria. Although numerous treatment options ranging from simple, conservative measures to invasive surgical procedures have been mentioned for low-output, high-output, and massive leaks, there is no concrete evidence on the best method. Thus, a combination of management options must be customized by case for optimum results.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate cervical lymph node metastasis of oral squamous cell carcinoma patients by MRI film and neural network system. Materials and Methods: The oral squamous cell carcinoma patients(21 patients. 59 lymph nodes) who have visited SNU hospital and been taken by MRI. were included in this study. Neck dissection operations were done and all of the cervical lymph nodes were confirmed with biopsy. In MR images. each lymph node were evaluated by using 6 MR imaging criteria(size. roundness. heterogeneity. rim enhancement. central necrosis, grouping) respectively. Positive predictive value. negative predictive value. and accuracy of each MR imaging criteria were calculated. At neural network system. the layers of neural network system consisted of 10 input layer units. 10 hidden layer units and 1 output layer unit. 6 MR imaging criteria previously described and 4 MR imaging criteria (site I-node level II and submandibular area. site II-other node level. shape I-oval. shape II-bean) were included for input layer units. The training files were made of 39 lymph nodes(24 metastatic lymph nodes. 10 non-metastatic lymph nodes) and the testing files were made of other 20 lymph nodes(10 metastatic lymph nodes. 10 non-metastatic lymph nodes). The neural network system was trained with training files and the output level (metastatic index) of testing files were acquired. Diagnosis was decided according to 4 different standard metastatic index-68. 78. 88. 98 respectively and positive predictive values. negative predictive values and accuracy of each standard metastatic index were calculated. Results: In the diagnosis of using single MR imaging criteria. the rim enhancement criteria had highest positive predictive value (0.95) and the size criteria had highest negative predictive value (0.77). In the diagnosis of using single MR imaging criteria. the highest accurate criteria was heterogeneity (accuracy: 0.81) and the lowest one was central necrosis (accuracy: 0.59). In the diagnosis of using neural network systems. the highest accurate standard metastatic index was 78. and that time. the accuracy was 0.90. Neural network system was more accurate than any other single MR imaging criteria in evaluating cervical lymph node metastasis. Conclusion: Neural network system has been shown to be more useful than any other single MR imaging criteria. In future. Neural network system will be powerful aiding tool in evaluating cervical node metastasis.

In this report, we apply an anomaly detection algorithm to a mobile oral health care application. In particular, we have investigated one class YOLOv3 as an anomaly detection model to classify pictures of mouths which will be used as inputs in the following machine learning model. We have achieved outstanding performances by proposing appropriate annotation strategies for our data sets and modifying the loss function. Moreover, the model can classify not only oral and non-oral pictures but also output preprocessed pictures that only contain the area around the lips by using the predicted bounding box. Thus, the model performs prediction and preprocessing simultaneously.

In this study, a novel sensor system for measuring the temperature inside an oral cavity is proposed. With this aim, a small size of thermistor was used for resolving the cavity's temperature with the resolution of $0.1^{\circ}C$. To evaluate effectiveness of our sensor system, the temperature and its output voltage characteristic, and the specifications of response are investigated. It turned out to be that our sensor system has a linear property in terms of temperature variations for a healthy subject's body temperature range and has a good response time within 3 seconds. Also, in order to investigate the medical application, our sensor system is sought to measure the real temperature variations of a subject's oral cavity and ark shell especially for 'before' and 'after' exercise mode.
Purpose. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of repeated use of an implant handpiece under an implant placement torque (35 Ncm) and overloading torque condition (50 Ncm) on an output torque. Materials and Methods. Two types of implant handpiece systems (Surgicpro/X-DSG20L [NSK, Kanuma, Japan] and SIP20/CRB46LN [SAESHIN, Daegu, South Korea]) were used. The output torque was measured using a digital torque gauge. The height and angle (x, y, and z axes) of the digital torque gauge and implant handpiece were adjusted through a jig for passive connection. The experiment was conducted under the setting torque value of 35 Ncm (implant placement torque) and 50 Ncm (overloading torque condition) and 30 times per set; a total of 5 sets were performed (N = 150). For statistical analysis, the difference between the groups was analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test and the Friedman test was used to confirm the change in output torque (α=.05). Results. NSK and SAESHIN implant handpieces showed significant differences in output torque results at the setting torques of 35 Ncm and 50 Ncm (P<.001). The type of implant handpiece and repeated use influenced the output torque (P<.001). Conclusion. There may be a difference between the setting torque and actual output torque due to repeated use, and the implant handpiece should be managed and repaired during long-term use. In addition, for successful implant results in dental clinics, the output torque of the implant handpiece system should be checked before implant placement.
Purpose: The objective of this study was to examine the affected period and the amount of bone formation during osteogenesis of intramembranous bone using low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LPUS) $in$$vivo$. Methods: Xeno-bone (Bio-oss) and autogenous bone were grafted bilaterally into mini-pig mandibles. The left mandible served as the control and the other mandible was treated with 3 MHz, 160 mW (output, 0.8 mW) ultrasound stimulation for 7 days 15 minutes per day. The mini-pigs were sacrificed at 1, 2, 4, and 8 weeks, and micro computed tomography (${\mu}CT$), a microscopic examination, and a statistical analysis were performed on the specimens. Results: Based on a computerized image analysis of the ${\mu}CT$ scans, the experimental group had an average 150% more new bone formation than that in the control group. The effect of LPUS continued during the post operative 2 weeks. The histomorphological microscopic examination showed similar results. Conclusion: Our results suggest the LPUS had an effect on early intramembranous bone formation in vivo.

Safety evaluation of LB71350, a new HIV-1 protease inhibitor, was performed in mice, rats and dogs. For the general behavior of mice, LB71350 at an oral dose of 200 mg/kg did not show any significant effects on muscle tone and locomotor activity. In terms of central nervous system, at oral doses of 200 mg/kg and 1000 mg/kg, LB71350 inhibited acetic acid-induced pain response approximately 41% and 83% of control. respectively. At oral doses of 200 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg, it reduced the rectal body temperature in rats. Pentylenetetrazole-induced seizure in mice was slightly potentiated by oral administration of LB71350 at doses ranging from 200 mg/kg to 1000 mg/Ag. Single or five day treatment of LB71350 doubled the hexobarbital- induced sleeping time in mice at oral doses ranging from 50 mg/kg to 500 mg/kg. It did not cause any effects on gastric secretion and acidity in rat at oral doses of 200 mg/kg and 1000 mg/kg and also it did not change intestinal motility in mice up to 1000 mg/kg. Blood coagulation indices such as prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), and thrombin time (TT) in rats were not affected by the treatment of LB71350 up to 500 mg/kg. LB71350 caused no significant effects on the cardiac output, stroke volume, heart rate, and mean blood pressure when infused intravenously to the anesthetized rats and dogs. Taken together, LB71350 at high oral doses caused significant pharmacological effects on the central nervous system and the hexobarbital-induced sleeping time.
