Measurement of the phosphorus concentration in aerosols in Beijing, which was a representative East Asian mega-city, was carried out. The optimum procedure for analyzing phosphorus in aerosols was found in this study. Recovery of phosphorus in environmental samples through the improved method was almost 100%. The concentration of phosphorus in TSP was $145{\pm}47\;ng/m^3$, with a seasonal variation showing high concentrations in winter and low concentrations in summer. The concentrations of phosphorus in $PM_{2.5}$ accounted for $35{\pm}6%$ of those in TSP, with no seasonal variations. The major source of phosphorus in aerosols in Beijing was soil dust, and additional sources of phosphorus in fine particles could be coal combustion and biomass burning.
In line with the Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV) regulation, the main idea in this study has been focused on the utilization of hydrocarbon adsorber (HCA) to adsorb the excess hydrocarbons emitted during a period of engine cold-start, As main recipes of HCA materials, many types of zeolite as well as the combination of alumina and precious metals were used, Representative physico-chemical factors of zeolite such as acidic and hydrophobic properties were characterized. The optimum recipe of HCA materials was also determined. Among the acid properties of zeolites, the Si/Al ratio was found to be the most important factor to get higher hydrocarbon adsorption capacity.
The solar shading height for the cultivation of plants is a very important factor because it has an effect on the variations of the solar energy. In this study, the solar shadings were built in Daegu region to investigate the optimum thermal conditions for the cultivation of plants and to provide the basic data. The thermal environment factors (dry bulb temperature, relative humidity, air velocity) were then measured and analyzed. It is found that the heights of the solar shadings have an uniform effect on the thermal environment for the cultivation of plants: the higher the heights of the solar shadings the higher temperature was obtained. But surprisingly this trend was not found for the relative humidity and the air velocity.

This paper develops a new heuristic, the Excursion Algorithm(EA), for constructing optimal designs for the experiments related with marine environment. The proposed EA consists of three parts: 1) construction of an initial feasible solution, 2) excursions over a bounded region, and 3) stopping rules. It is the second part that distinguishes the EA from the other existing heuristic methods. It turns out that excursions over a bounded feasible and/or infeasible region is effective in alleviating the risks of being trapped at a local optimum. Since this problem is formulated for the first time thesis, other heuristic algorithms do not exist. Therefore, global optimal solutions are obtained by complete enumeration for some cases, and the performance of the EA is evaluated in terms of solution quality. Computational results show that the proposed EA is effective in finding good(or, in many cases, global) solutions to the constrained optimal experimental design problems.
The results of geoarchaeological studies of the prehistoric cultural complexes on the Russian Far East (Primorye, or Maritime Province; the Amur River basin; and Sakhalin Island) are presented. Upper Palaeolithic sites are dated to ca. 40,000-10,500 B.P. They existed during the mild climate of the Chernoruchie interstadial (ca. 40,000-21,000 B.P.); during harsh climate at the Last Glacial Maximum, ca. 20,000-18,000 B.P., in several places on the Russian Far East (Primorye, Amur River basin, and Sakhalin); and during climatic amelioration in the Late Glacial time, ca. 16,000-10,500 B.P. The earliest Neolithic sites, represented by Osipovka and Gromatukha cultures, existed at ca. 13,000-10,000 B.P. in the environment of coniferous forests with admixture of broadleaved taxa. Since ca. 8000 B.P., Neolithic cultures appeared in all of the Russian Far East. They existed until ca. 3000 B.P., first during the Holocene Climatic Optimum, ca. 8000-5000 B.P., in the environment of coniferous-broadleaved forests, and later, at ca. 5000-3000 B.P., in the environment of birch-oak and coniferous forests.

Dumping of waste sludge to ocean will be prohibited in Jananuary, 2012. Thus, various methods of sludge recycling are intensively studied. To present new way of sewage sludge recycling method, feasibility of making porous biological support media was investigated. Porous biological support media was made of sludge cake from sewage treatment plant and loess. They were mixed in varying ratio and burnt in high temperature to ensure sufficient mechanical strength. It was evaluated that about 67% of sewage sludge were ignitible. The ignitible portion play an important role in making pore in biomedia during ignition process. It was evaluated that optimum mixing ratio of loess to sludge cake was 25% in respect of compressive strength. In results of observation using scanning electron microscope (SEM), inner structure of biomedia become simple when the contents of loess are increased.
When it calculates the optimum price of filter coefficient, the many operation quantity is necessary. Is like that the real-time control is difficult and the hardware embodiment expense is big. The case which does not know advance information of input signal or the case where the statistical nature changes with change of surroundings environment is necessary the adaptive filter. Every hour to change a coefficient automatically and system in order to reach to the condition of optimum oneself, the fact that is the adaptive filter. When it does not the quality of input signal or it does not know the environment of surroundings every hour changing, it does not emit not to be, in order to collect, the fact that is the adaptive filter. The case of the Acoustic Echo Canceler does thousands filter coefficients in necessity. It reduces a many calculation quantity to respect, it uses the IIR filter from hour territory. Also it uses the block adaptive filter which has a block input signal and a block output signal. The former there is a weak point where the stability discrimination is always demanded. Consequently, The block adaptive filter is researched plentifully. This dissertation planned the block MADF adaptive filter used to MADf algorithm.
Objectives: A people-counting system measures real-time occupancy through motion detection. Accurate people-counting can be used to calculate suitable ventilation demands. This study determined the optimum motion threshold for a people-counting system. Methods: In a closed room with two occupants moving constantly, different thresholds were tested for the accuracy of a people-counting system. The experiments were conducted at 150, 300, 450 and 600 lux. These levels of brightness included the illumination levels of most public indoor areas. The experiments were repeated with three types of clothing coloration. Results: Overall, a threshold of 16 provided the lowest mean error percentage for the people-counting system. Brightness and clothing color did not have a significant impact on the results. Conclusion: A people-counting system could be used with threshold of 16 for most indoor environments.

Wireless sensor technology has been opened up numerous opportunities to advanced health and maintenance monitoring of civil infrastructure. Compare to the traditional tactics, it offers a better way of providing relevant information regarding the condition of building structure health at a lower price. Numerous domestic buildings, especially longer-span buildings have a low frequency response and challenging to measure using deployed numbers of sensors. The way the sensor nodes are connected plays an important role in providing the signals with required strengths. Out of many topologies, the dense and sparse topologies wireless sensor network were extensively used in sensor network applications for collecting health information. However, it is still unclear which topology is better for obtaining health information in terms of greatest components, node's size and degree. Theoretical and computational issues arising in the selection of the optimum topology sensor network for estimating coverage area with sensor placement in building structural monitoring are addressed. This work is an attempt to fill this gap in high-rise building structural health monitoring application. The result shows that, the sparse topology sensor network provides better performance compared with the dense topology network and would be a good choice for monitoring high-rise building structural health damage.

Biofilter performance to reduce C $H_4$ emissions from MSW landfills was tested under a variety of environmental and design conditions. The optimum soil moisture content for C $H_4$ oxidation in a loamy sand was 13% by weight. The addition of N $O_3$-N did not affect the C $H_4$ oxidation rate. Soil depths of 30cm and 60cm were equally efficient in C $H_4$ oxidation. When the C $H_4$ loading rate was decreased, the percentage of C $H_4$ oxidized increased. The maximum C $H_4$ oxidation rate was 27.2 mol $m^{-2}$$d^{-1}$ under optimum conditions (loamy sand soil, 13% moisture content, 30cm soil depth, and an loading rate of 32.8 mol $m^{-2}$$d^{-1}$). Based on the above results, the installation of a properly sized and managed biofilter above a landfill cover should be capable of achieving a major reduction in atmospheric methane emissions from MSW landfills built with RCRA covers.
