  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the optimum thickness of High Performance Concrete bridge deck pavement. The application of High Performance Concrete bridge deck pavement with micro-silica was introduced to north America in the early 1980's. In order to decide the optimum thickness of High Performance Concrete bridge deck pavement, we conducted Finite Element Method analysis with Incheon Grand Bridge constructed by SAMSUNG E&C. From the FEM results, a thickness of five centimeters of High Performance Concrete bridge deck pavement with micro-silica is considered as a resonable value compared with the conventional asphalt bridge deck pavement.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the error rate Performance of Convolution coded 16 QAM signal with Optimum Threshold Detection in Rician Fading Enviroments. The performance of 16-QAM signal with CTD (conventional threshold detection) which employs convolution coding technique was analyzed and the performance improvement of convolution coded 16-QAM signal with OTD (optimum threshold detection) which is varied according to fading parameter 'K' and AWGN in Rician Fading channel was simulated. As a result of analysis, it was shown the effect of performance improvement to overcome the environment of mobile radio data communication channel.

  • A study on optimum operation performances of power efficiency, economy and exhaust emissions for a tractor was conducted. A mathematical model of multiple degree polynomial equation was applied to established the function of solid multiple parameter curves for specific fuel consumption (ge), cabon monoxide (CO) ,hydrcarbons (HC) and cabonaceous smoke (Rb). The optimum operation theorems for economy operation indicated by ge and for exhaust emissions described by Co , HC and Rb were obtained from analytical method and performance test data. The optimum operation theorems could exhibit optimum operation working points, curves, and regions. The optimum matching relations of engine speed and transmission parameters were analyzed by using computer simulation methods in accordance with the tractor specifications , actual farm working conditions in a typical drawbar pull work such as plowing , the optimum operation objective function, the ideal transmission ratio, practical gear shif ing positions and practical travel speed of the tractor TN55 medel. The results of the anlayzes indicated clearly that the optimum power efficient operation, energy saving and pollution reducing would be realized if the tractor would be operated according to theoptimum operation methods.

  • This paper considers the problem of optimally designing accelerated degradation tests in which the performance value of a specimen is measured only at one of three test conditions for a given exposure time. For the product having lognormally distributed performance, the optimum plan-low stress level and sample proportion allocated to each test condition - is obtained, which minimize the asymptotic variance of maximum likelihood estimator of a stated quantile at design stress. An illustrative example for the optimum plan is given.

  • Optimizing transient response for both tracking reference signals and disturbance rejection is determined by the poles and zeros of the transfer function. Thus, optimal pole assignment and how should weighting matrix for the performance index be chosen is very important to achieve optimum transient response. This paper focus its attention on the choosing and analysis of weighting matrix for optimum pole assignment. Optimum pole assignment is defined for linear time-invariant continuous systems.

  • We consider energy efficient transmit and receive strategy for a delay sensitive data. More specifically, we investigate an energy optimum scheduling characteristics for the 2 user interference channel where each user interferes to each other. First, we determine the optimum transmission rate region each individual user may have for optimum transmission. Next, we consider the optimum transmission region of two users together. Shortest path algorithm can be used for further reduction of search space. Eventually, we can reduce computational complexity. We then examine the performance of the optimum transmission strategy for various system environments.

  • An experimental investigation for leakage performance of five anti-swirl self-injection seals was carried out to select an optimum configuration for minimum leakage. Test results show that the self-injection mechanism with a plain seal generally degrades the leakage performance of noncontacting seals; however, through a series of the test program, an optimum anti-swirl self injection seal was selected to obtain a comparable leakage performance with a damper seal. A 12 holes anti-swirl and anti-leakage self-injected. configuration with a labyrinth surface gives minimum leakage among the tested anti-swirl self-injection seals.

  • In this paper, the design of an optimum single input Fuzzy controller for application in dc to ac converters is presented. Contrary to conventional Fuzzy controllers, the proposed controller has a smaller number of rules and tuning parameters but is capable of performing identically to a conventional controller. These benefits lead to a simpler controller design. The controller is designed as a PI controller for small-signal disturbances. However, for optimum large-signal performance, heuristic tuning is used. The tuning is less complicated and hence optimum large-signal performance is achievable. The system is simulated and a hardware prototype was developed for comparison purposes.

  • The asymptotic performance of the two-sample locally optimum rank detector for random signals buried in signal-dependent noise and additive noise is consigered in this paper. It is shown that the locally optimum rank detector, a nonparametric detector, has reasonable asymptotic performance for a class of correlated random signals, compared with the locally optimum detector. It is noteworthy that the the two-sample locally optimum rank detector perform almost the same with the one-sample locally optimum rank detector.

  • Experimental work of batch-type dryer was conducted to develop its optimurm operating conditions by analyzing the major factors which affect the drying performance. A laboratory batch-type dryer was constructed and tested for various levels of heated-air rates, and depths of grain deposit. Tong-il rice variety having the initial moisture content of approximaely 23 per cent in wet basis was used for the experiment. The criteria selected for establishing the optimum operating condition were the drying performance rate, the thermal efficiency, and the operational cost of the dryer. The results of the study are summarized as follows: 1. The performance rate of dryer for a specific operating condition was defined as total amount of material dried per hour when the moisture content of grains in the upperlayer reaches to 16 per cent in wet basis. The optimum operating conditions as viewed in the rate of drying performance could be justified by functional realtionship between the depth of grain deposit and air flow rate. In other words, there was a definite depth of grain deposit for a given air-rate which make the dryer performance maximum. The optimum grain depth for the batch-type dryer with 3.3㎡ loading area and with the attached axial fan was about 35cm. 2. The thermal efficiency for the dryer was evaluated by the ratio of the latent heat required to evaporate the grain moisture to the heat input required to raise the ambient air-temperature to 40 degree centigrade. The optimum operating condition as viewed in term of thermal efficiency analyzed was that grater depth and lower air flow-rate may be desirable. This condition is contracted with the optimum condition as viewed by the dryer performance rate. 3. The annual operating cost of batch-type dryer was analyzed for different annual hour of use and for different operation condition. The optimum condition as viewed in terms of operating cost was almost identical to one as viewed in terms of dryer performance rate. Therefore, the most economical use of batch-type dryer for the same annual operating hours can be obtained when the dryer operated in the condition of maximum dryer performance rate. Increasing the annual operating hour may be desirable to cut down the dryer operation cost, since the annual hour of dryer use is much sensitive to the operating cost than any peractical conditions of dryer operation. 4. The most desirable operational condition as justified by combining all the criteria, dryer performance rate, thermal efficiency and annual operating cost, could be concluded to operate the dryer in the condition of maximum performance rate. The condition in general is identical to the lowest operation cost for a given annual operating hour.
