In this paper, a mathmatical model for the purpose of QRS detection is considered in the case of the occurence of nonoverlappjng pulse-shaped waveforms corrupted with white noise. The number of waveform, the arrival times, amplitudes, and widths of QRS complexes are regarded as random variables. The joint MAP estimation of all the unknown Quantities consists of linear filtering followed by an optimization procedure. Because the optimization procedure is time-consuming, this procedure is modified so that a threshold test is obtained.
This paper proposes an automated procedure for optimum seismic design of reinforced concrete (RC) frame structures. This procedure combines a smart pre-processing using a Tree Classification Method (TCM) and a nonlinear optimization technique. First, the TCM automatically creates sections database and assigns sections to structural members. Subsequently, a real valued model of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is employed in solving the optimization problem. Numerical examples on design optimization of three low- to high-rise RC frame structures under earthquake loads are presented with and without considering strong column-weak beam (SCWB) constraint. Results demonstrate the effectiveness of the TCMin seismic design optimization of the structures.
This paper attempts to evaluate the accuracy and efficiency of a design optimization procedure by combining wavelets-based multi resolution analysis method and proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) technique. Aerodynamic design procedure calls for high fidelity computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations and the consideration of large number of flow conditions and design constraints. Thus, even with significant computing power advancement, current level of integrated design process requires substantial computing time and resources. POD reduces the degree of freedom of full system by conducting singular value decomposition for various field simulations. In this research, POD combined Design Optimization model is proposed and its efficiency and accuracy are to be evaluated. For additional efficiency improvement of the procedure, multi resolution analysis method is also being employed during snapshot constructions (POD training period). The proposed design procedure was applied to the optimization of wing aerodynamic performance. Throughout the research, it was confirmed that the POD/MRA design procedure could significantly reduce the total design turnaround time and also capture all detailed complex flow features as in full order analysis.

A new method for ship Inner Shell optimization, which is called Parametric Inner Shell Optimization Method (PISOM), is presented in this paper in order to improve both hull performance and design efficiency of transport ship. The foundation of PISOM is the parametric Inner Shell Plate (ISP) model, which is a fully-associative model driven by dimensions. A method to create parametric ISP model is proposed, including geometric primitives, geometric constraints, geometric constraint solving etc. The standard optimization procedure of ship ISP optimization based on parametric ISP model is put forward, and an efficient optimization approach for typical transport ship is developed based on this procedure. This approach takes the section area of ISP and the other dominant parameters as variables, while all the design requirements such as propeller immersion, fore bottom wave slap, bridge visibility, longitudinal strength etc, are made constraints. The optimization objective is maximum volume of cargo oil tanker/cargo hold, and the genetic algorithm is used to solve this optimization model. This method is applied to the optimization of a product oil tanker and a bulk carrier, and it is proved to be effective, highly efficient, and engineering practical.
The calculation of Zwicker's loudness which is needed for multiple frequency response with a fine frequency resolution using the finite element (FE) procedure usually requires significant computation time since a numerical solution must be obtained for each considered frequency. Furthermore, if the analysis is the basis for an iterative optimization procedure this approach imposes high computational cost. In this work, we present an efficient approach for obtaining Zwicker's loudness via the Pad$\acute{e}$ approximants and applying in an acoustical topology optimization procedure. The paper is focused on an efficient and accurate calculation of Zwicker's loudness, design sensitivity analysis, and the acoustical topology optimization method by using Pad$\acute{e}$ approximants. The paper compares the efficient algorithm to results obtained by a standard FEM. Comparison are made both in terms of accuracy and in terms of CPU-times needed for the calculation.
The preliminary design optimization of multi-stage spur gear reduction units has been a subject of considerable interest, since many high-performance power transmission applications (e.g., automotive and aerospace) require high-performance gear reduction units. There are multiple objectives in the optimal design of multi-stage spur gear reduction unit, such as minimizing the volume and maximizing the surface fatigue life. It is reasonable to formulate the design of spur gear reduction unit as a multi-objective optimization problem, and find an appropriate approach to solve it. In this paper an interactive physical programming approach is developed to place physical programming into an interactive framework in a natural way. Class functions, which are used to represent the designer's preferences on design objectives, are fixed during the interactive physical programming procedure. After a Pareto solution is generated, a preference offset is added into the class function of each objective based on whether the designer would like to improve this objective or sacrifice the objective so as to improve other objectives. The preference offsets are adjusted during the interactive physical programming procedure, and an optimal solution that satisfies the designer's preferences is supposed to be obtained by the end of the procedure. An optimization problem of three-stage spur gear reduction unit is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to develop a systematic weighting procedure based on process capability indices method applying weighted mean squared error minimization (WMSE) approach to dual response surface optimization. Methods: The proposed procedure consists of 5 steps. Step 1 is to prepare the alternative vectors. Step 2 is to rank the vectors based on process capability indices in a pairwise manner. Step 3 is to transform the pairwise rankings into the inequalities between the corresponding WMSE values. Step 4 is to obtain the weight value by calculating the inequalities. Or, step 5 is to obtain the weight value by minimizing the total violation amount, in case there is no weight value in step 4. Results: The typical 4 process capability indices, namely, $C_p$, $C_{pk}$, $C_{pm}$, $C_{pmk}$ are utilized for the proposed procedure. Conclusion: The proposed procedure can provide a weight value in WMSE based on the objective quality performance criteria, not on the decision maker's subjective judgments or experiences.
Injection pressure is an important factor in filling procedure for injection molded parts. In addition, weldlines should be avoided to successfully produce injection molded parts. In this study, we optimally obtained injection molding process parameters that minimize injection pressure. Then, we determined the thickness of the part to avoid weldlines. To solve the optimization problem proposed, we employed MAPS-3D (Mold Analysis and Plastics Solution-3 Dimension), a commercial CAE tool for injection molding analysis, and PIAnO (Process Integration, Automation, and Optimization) as a commercial PIDO (Process Integration and Design Optimization) tool. We integrated MAPS-3D into PIAnO, automated the analysis and design procedure, and performed optimization by employing PQRSM (Progressive Quadratic Response Surface Method) equipped in PIAnO. We successfully obtained optimization results, which demonstrates the effectiveness of our design method.
Simulation is generally used for the performance analysis and optimization of manufacturing systems. Therefore in this paper using the simulation techniques we obtain the information about the efficiency improvement and the optimization. Because simulation optimization method is subjected to the applied field and environment the general simulation optimization method does not exist. So we do not take the fixed optimization procedure but suggest the alternative one which is modified for applied field. This procedure supplies the optimized simulation information and helps improve the productivity of Geared-Motor assembly line. In order to optimize the manufacturing system we use two simulation languages, FACTOR/AIM and SLAMSYSTEM. The former gives the abundant output information. The latter gives the flexibility in simulation modeling.
In this paper, the development of a new optimization software for finite element model updating of engineering structures titled as FemUP is described. The program is used for computational FEM model updating of structures depending on modal testing results. This paper deals with the FE model updating procedure carried out in FemUP. The theoretical exposition on FE model updating and optimization techniques is presented. The related issues including the objective function, constraint function, different residuals and possible parameters for FE model updating are investigated. The issues of updating process adopted in FemUP are discussed. The ideas of optimization to be used in FE model updating application are explained. The algorithm of Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) is explored which will be used to solve the optimization problem. The possibilities of the program are demonstrated with a three dimensional steel frame model. As a result of this study, it can be said that SQP algorithm is very effective in model updating procedure.
