Shape Optimization of a Plate-Fin Type Heat Sink with Triangular-Shaped Vortex Generator

  • In this study the optimization of plate-fin type heat sink with vortex generator for the thermal stability is performed numerically. The optimum solutions in the heat sink are obtained when the temperature rise and the pressure drop are minimized simultaneously. Thermal performance of heat sink is influenced by the heat sink shape such as the base-part fin width, lower-part fin width, and basement thickness. To acquire the optimal design variables automatically, CFD and mathematical optimization are integrated. The flow and thermal fields are predicted using the finite volume method. The optimization is carried out by means of the sequential quadratic programming (SQP) method which is widely used for the constrained nonlinear optimization problem. The results show that the optimal design variables are as follows; B$_1$=2.584 mm, B$_2$=1.741 mm, and t=7.914 mm when the temperature rise is less than 40 K. Comparing with the initial design, the temperature rise is reduced by 4.2 K, while the pressure drop is increased by 9.43 Pa. The relationship between the pressure drop and the temperature rise is also presented to select the heat sink shape for the designers.

연삭가공된 강재의 표면 Rolling시 가압력이 표면 조도에 미치는 영향 (An Effect of Load on Surface Roughness on Surface Rolling of Ground Mild Steel)

  • The surface rolling method which is one of the plastic deformation processes increases the surface roughness with reduction of diameter and hardness. In this study, three NACHI 6000 ZZ bearing were used for surface rolling tool on a mild steel. The following results have been obtained with the mild steel. 1) The load is major factor in getting fine surface roughness of roller fininshing after grinding. The optimal surface roughness of SS40 steel can be obtained at the contact pressure of $210kgf/cm^2$. But, Better surface roughness can not be expected, Due to flaking phenomena at more than 300 kgf/cm of contact pressure. 2) At the contact pressure range of $200kgf/cm^2{\sim}210kgf/cm^2$ for optimal surface roughness, The surface hardness increased to Hv 200~Hv 240 from Hv 125 before surface rolling. 3) Within the diameter variation of $13{\mu}m$ the surface roughness and the surface hardness were increased, but out of variation of $14{\mu}m$. The surface roughness become worse and the surface hardness was increased.

The Analysis of Life Cycle Cost and Cooling Water Circulating Pump Energy Saving According to Variable Speed Pressure Differential Setpoint Control Strategy

  • Purpose : The study applied control strategy to reduce through optimal control and operation of pump by applying control on variable speed to the circulation pump of HVAC system in the office building. The study has the purpose to review validity of control on variable speed as ESMs(Energy Saving Measures) and establish the control technology on variable speed pump. The study performed reduction analysis of building energy and economic evaluation of pump through energy effectiveness control strategy of HVAC system. Method: The study sought possible reduction through energy control strategy which can provide proper flow fitting to building load by applying control on variable speed pump. The study applied control strategy to reduce through pressure differential set-point control and operation of pump by applying control on variable speed to the circulation pump of HVAC system in the office building. Result : The results showed that about 16-35% of pump energy could be saved by using these optimal control strategies. In the result of analysis on 10 years life cycle cost of analysis on payback period of initial investment pump, variable speed pump control showed 5.1 years.

다공성 분리막을 이용한 최적의 Bio-gas 분리인자 도출 (A Study on the Optimal Conditions of the Biogas Sorting by Using the Polysulfone Membrane)

  • The objective of this research is to evaluate optimal conditions of permeability and selectivity on the polysulfone membrane for efficiency of separation of $CH_4$ by checking four factors which are temperature, pressure, gas compositions and gas flow rates. When higher pressure was applied at the input, lower efficiency of recovery of $CH_4$ and higher efficiency of separation of $CH_4$ were shown. It has the tendency to show lower efficiency of recovery of $CH_4$ and higher efficiency of separation of $CH_4$ at the output as higher temperature at input. The lower flow rates make higher efficiency of recovery of $CH_4$ and lower efficiency of separation of $CH_4$. Finally, over 90% efficiency for $CH_4$ separation and recovery conditions are temperature ($-5^{\circ}C$), pressure (8 bar), gas composition rate (6:4) ($CH_4:CO_2$) and gas flow rate ($5\ell$/min). These conditions make higher separation and recovery efficiency such as 90.1% and 92.1%, respectively.

  • Polishing is one of the important methods in manufacturing of Si wafers and in thinning of completed device wafers. This study will report the characteristic of wafer according to processing time, machining speed and pressure which have major influence on the abrasion of Si wafer polishing. It is possible to evaluation of wafer abrasion by load cell and infrared temperature sensor. The characteristic of wafer surface according to processing condition is selected to use a result data that measure a pressure, machining speed, and the processing time. This result is appeared by the characteristic of wafer surface in machining condition. Through that, the study cans evaluation a wafer characteristic in variable machining condition. It is important to obtain optimal condition. Thus the optimum condition selection of ultra precision Si wafer polishing using load cell and infrared temperature sensor. To evaluate each machining factor, use a data through each sensor. That evaluation of abrasion according to variety condition is selected to use a result data that measure a pressure, machining speed, and the processing time. And optimum condition is selected by this result.

항공기용 연료호스 제작시 최적 크림핑 직경에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Optimal Crimping Diameter of Aircraft Fuel Hoses in Manufacturing Process)

  • The high pressure hoses are widely used for the vehicles, aircraft, and overall industries. The hose assembly is generally composed of a nipple, a socket and a hose with reinforcement layers to increase the tensile strength. To produce the hose assembly, crimping or swaging process is usually used to clamp its components to ensure the prevention of fluid leakage. Crimping is a cold-working technique to form a strong bond between the workpiece and a non-metallic component. The crimping stroke is a primary parameter to be determined in the metalworking process, and it plays an important role in hose performance. This study aims at investigating the optimal crimping stroke according to the size of aircraft high pressure hose by using MSC/MARC. It is supposed that the results can be useful to get the information about the crimping stroke in manufacturing process, even with the different size of a hose.

  • 본 연구에서는 마이크로 유전자 알고리즘을 이용하여 외부 수압을 받는 필라멘트 와인딩 복합재 원통의 최적설계를 수행하였다. 목적함수는 파손하중과 좌굴하중을 동시에 고려하여 설계하중을 최대화하는 것이다. 좌굴 및 파손해석은 MSC.NASTRAN을 이용하였고, Carroll의 공개된 마이크로 유전자 알고리즘에 기초한 최적화작업을 수행하였다. 설계변수로는 헬리컬(helical) 와인딩 각도와 후프(hoop) 와인딩 층의 두께비가 고려되었다. 본 연구를 통해 마이크로 유전자 알고리즘을 이용하여 다양한 형상을 갖는 필라멘트 와인딩 복합재 원통의 좌굴 및 파손하중 최적화가 가능함을 확인하였고, 제안된 알고리즘이 일반 유전자 알고리즘과 비교해서도 높은 효율을 보였다.

A new model for T-shaped combined footings part II: Mathematical model for design

  • The first part shows the optimal contact surface for T-shaped combined footings to obtain the most economical dimensioning on the soil (optimal area). This paper presents the second part of a new model for T-shaped combined footings, this part shows a the mathematical model for design of such foundations subject to axial load and moments in two directions to each column considering the soil real pressure acting on the contact surface of the footing with one or two property lines restricted, the pressure is presented in terms of an axial load, moment around the axis "X" and moment around the axis "Y" to each column, and the methodology is developed using the principle that the derived of the moment is the shear force. The classic model considers an axial load and a moment around the axis "X" (transverse axis) applied to each column, i.e., the resultant force from the applied loads is located on the axis "Y" (longitudinal axis), and its position must match with the geometric center of the footing, and when the axial load and moments in two directions are presented, the maximum pressure and uniform applied throughout the contact surface of the footing is considered the same. To illustrate the validity of the new model, a numerical example is presented to obtain the design for T-shaped combined footings subjected to an axial load and moments in two directions applied to each column. The mathematical approach suggested in this paper produces results that have a tangible accuracy for all problems.

이중구조팬의 Conic Winglet 최적설계 (Optimal Design for a Conic Winglet of a Dual Type Combined Fan)

  • 본 연구에서는 이중구조를 갖는 팬의 날개 끝에서 발생하는 손실을 저감시키기 위하여 바깥 날개 끝 익형단면을 세 축으로 회전시키는 Conic winglet을 적용하였다. 손실을 계산하기 위하여 CFD 전산해석을 수행하였으며, 최소의 손실을 얻기 위하여 최적화를 수행하였다. 최적화 결과 Conic winglet은 바깥 날개 끝의 후단 부근에서 압력면 쪽으로 휘어진 형상을 보였으며 이 형상은 날개 끝에서 발생하는 전압력 손실을 3.24 % 저감시켰다.

터널 주행속도 향상을 위한 고속열차 전두부 형상 최적화 (Nose Shape Optimization of the High-Speed Train for the Speed-up in Tunnel)

  • The next generation of Korean high-speed train under development will be designed for the maximum operating speed of 350km/h and maximum speed of 400km/h. This high-speed operation may cause the noise and vibration problems around tunnel exit due to the higher micro-pressure wave than present level. In this study, the nose shape optimization was conducted for the countermeasure against these problems. Axi-symmetric solver was used for numerical simulation, and response surface was used for efficiency of optimization process. Also the multi-step optimization was conducted to find out more accurate optimal shape. Through these analysis and optimization, it was found out that the optimal nose shapes for minimization of micro-pressure wave are definitely different along the nose length variation. And the mechanism of micro-pressure wave reduction was closely investigated by the analysis of generation process of compression wave in tunnel. The results are expected to be used as design guideline for performance improvement of the next generatin of Korean high-speed train.
