Real Time Flood Forecasting Using Artificial Neural Networks (인공신경망 이론을 이용한 실시간 홍수량 예측 및 해석)

  • An artificial neural network model was developed to analyze and forecast real time river runoff from the Naju watershed, in Korea. Model forecasts are very accurate (i.e., relative error is less than 3% and $R^2$ is great than 0.99) for calibration data sets. Increasing the time horizon for validation data sets, thus making the model suitable for flood forecasting, decreases the accuracy of the model. The resulting optimal EBPN models for forecasting real time runoff consists of ten rainfall and four and ten runoff data (ANN0410 and ANN1010 models). Performances of the ANN0410 and ANN1010 models remain satisfactory up to 6 hours (i.e., $R^2$ is great than 0.92).

  • The worm gear is used in the motor drive system of automotive CVVL because of its compactness and self-locking ability. A ZK worm and an involute helical gear can be meshed in order to reduce production cost. However, the gearing is not suitable for the reliability and the NVH problem. To improve the dynamic performances, an optimal design process is considered. The transmission error is calculated theoretically and minimized with the several gear design parameters. An inequality condition such as the teeth interference elimination is added.

  • In this paper, we investigate the vibration control of multimodal structures and present an efficient control law that requires less energy supply than active strategies. This strategy is called modal global semi-active control and is designed to work as effectively as the active control and consume less power which represents its major limitation. The proposed law is based on an energetic management of the optimal law such that the controller follows this latter only if there is sufficient energy which will be extracted directly from the system vibrations itself. The control algorithm is presented and validated for a cantilever beam structure subjected to external perturbations. Comparisons between the proposed law performances and those obtained by independent modal space control (IMSC) and semi-active control schemes are offered.

  • This paper considers a two-machine flow-shop scheduling problem for minimizing mean flow time. Each job has three non-preemptive operations, where the first and third operations must be Processed on the first and second machines, respectively, but the second operation can be processed on either machine. A lower bound based on SPT rule is derived, which is then used to develop a branch-and-bound algorithm. Also, an efficient simple heuristic algorithm is developed to generate a near-optimal schedule. Numerical experiments are performed to evaluate the performances of the proposed branch-and-bound and the heuristic algorithm

  • Various techniques for optimizing the performance indices of sonar arrays have been discussed, Maximizing the directivity or beamforming technique with constraints have been studied, however these performances are adapted on the condition of isotropic linear array. In this paper we discuss the problems resulting from application of conformal array by using previous techniques. Finally, we could get a desired beam pattern after use of the compensated weight vector to solve the problems.

Weight Decision Scheme based on Slot-Count in Gen-2 Q-Algorithm

  • In the Gen-2 Q-algorithm, the values of weight C, which is the parameter for incrementing or decrementing the slot-count size, are not optimized in the standard. However, the standard suggests that the reader uses small values of C when the slot-count is large and larger values of C when the slot-count is small. In this case, if the reader selects an inappropriate weight, there are a lot of empty or collided slots. As a result, the performance will be declined because the frame size does not converge to the optimal point quickly during the query round. In this paper, we propose a scheme to select the weight based on the slot-count size of current query round. Through various computer simulations, it is demonstrated that the proposed scheme achieves more stable performances than Gen-2 Q-algorithm.

  • A design of a highly stable current-controlled power supply combining the phase-controlled rectifier (PCR), passive filter and active filter is investigated. A digital phase-looked voltage control (PLVC) with a capability of compensating the thyristor firing angles under unvalanced power source is proposed` otherwise the PCR output voltage has low-order subharmonics whose suppression requires a bulky passive filter. The digital PLVC has a fast dynamic characteristics as an inner control loop of the PCR. To suppress further the output ripple, an active filter using a transformer is introduced and its design is described through the frequency domain analysis. An optimal integral, proportional and measurable variable feedback (IPM) controller is designed using the time-weighted performance index based on the time domain analysis. The design method based on the time-weighted performance index gives better response characteristics than that based on the conventional performance index. It is also shown via experimental results that the proposed scheme gives better response characteristics than that based on the conventional performance index.   • A design method of rule-based fuzzy modeling is presented for the model identification of complex and nonlinear systems. Three kinds of method for fuzzy modeling presented in this paper include simplified inference (type 1), linear inference (type 2), and modified linear inference (type 3). The fuzzy c-means clustering and modified complex methods are used in order to identify the preise structure and parameter of fuzzy implication rules, respectively and the least square method is utilized for the identification of optimal consequence parameters. Time series data for gas funace and sewage treatment processes are used to evaluate the performances of the proposed rule-based fuzzy modeling.

  • Most control systems of power plants are using classical PID controllers for their process control. In order to get the desired control performances, the correct tuning of PID controllers is very important. Sometimes, it is necessary to retune PID controllers after the change of system operating condition and system design change, etc. Commercial auto-tuning controllers such as relay feedback controller can be used for this purpose. However, using these controllers to the safety-critical systems of nuclear power plants may be cause of unsafe operation, because they are using test signals for tuning. A new system identification auto-tuning method without using test signal has been developed in this paper. This method uses process input/output signals for system identification of unknown control process. From the model information of control process which was obtained from system identification approach, the optimal PID parameters can be calculated. The method can be used in the safety-critical systems because it is not using test signals during system modeling process.

  • Low carbon construction is an important operation management goal such as cost, time, and quality in construction community. This paper introduces a system which measures the variability of carbon dioxide amounts. First, this system allows creating construction operation models of which the level of detail is breakdown into the work task level. Second, the system implements sensitivity analysis along with a ranges of resources that are allocated in an operation model. It facilitates to find the optimal resource combination using the operation performances such as the amount of emissions, operation completion time, and cost. Lastly, it identifies the best fit probability distribution functions of performance criteria given a certain resource combination. It allows project manager to query the percentages to complete the operation within a limitation specified by the system users.
