Optimal Planning of Smart Energy System and its Applications (스마트 에너지 시스템 최적설계 및 적용사례)

  • The smart energy system is the integrated power system in which the power components including central station generation, distributed generation, renewable power generation, energy storage, and communications and controls are complexly connected with each other. In smart energy system, it is very important how to configure the diverse power generations and how to determine the operation mode of the chosen components with economic feasibility. In this study, we introduce the optimal planning method based on both economic feasibility and load profiles and its applications for the smart energy system in apartment. This method was considered very useful to determine the configuration and to decide the optimal operation mode of the smart energy system.

AN APPROACH FOR SOLVING NONLINEAR PROGRAMMING PROBLEMS

  • In this paper we use measure theory to solve a wide range of the nonlinear programming problems. First, we transform a nonlinear programming problem to a classical optimal control problem with no restriction on states and controls. The new problem is modified into one consisting of the minimization of a special linear functional over a set of Radon measures; then we obtain an optimal measure corresponding to functional problem which is then approximated by a finite combination of atomic measures and the problem converted approximately to a finite-dimensional linear programming. Then by the solution of the linear programming problem we obtain the approximate optimal control and then, by the solution of the latter problem we obtain an approximate solution for the original problem. Furthermore, we obtain the path from the initial point to the admissible solution.

  • The current paper presents application of a new analytic solution in general relative motion to spacecraft formation flying in an elliptic orbit. The calculus of variations is used to analytically find optimal trajectories and controls for the given problem. The inverse of the fundamental matrix associated with the dynamic equations is not required for the solution in the current study. It is verified that the optimal thrust vector is a function of the fundamental matrix of the given state equations. The cost function and the state vector during the reconfiguration can be analytically obtained as well. The results predict the form of optimal solutions in advance without having to solve the problem. Numerical simulation shows the brevity and the accuracy of the general analytic solutions developed in the current paper.

  • In this paper an optimal method based on fuzzy logic for controlling parallel hybrid electric vehicles is presented. In parallel hybrid electric vehicles the required torque for deriving and operating the on-board accessories is generated by a combination of internal-combustion engine and an electric motor. The powersharing between the internal combustion engine and the electric motor is the key point for efficient driving. This is a highly nonlinear and time varying plant and its control strategy will be implemented with the use of fuzzy logic controller. The fuzzy logic controller will be designed based on the state of charge of batteries and the desired torque for driving. The output of controller controls the throttle of the combustion engine. The main contribution of this paper is the development of an optimal control based on fuzzy logic, which maximizes the output torque of the vehicle while minimizing fuel consumed by the combustion engine.

  • In this paper we use iterative dynamic programming in the discrete case to solve a wide range of the nonlinear equations systems. First, by defining an error function, we transform the problem to an optimal control problem in discrete case. In using iterative dynamic programming to solve optimal control problems up to now, we have broken up the problem into a number of stages and assumed that the performance index could always be expressed explicitly in terms of the state variables at the last stage. This provided a scheme where we could proceed backwards in a systematic way, carrying out optimization at each stage. Suppose that the performance index can not be expressed in terms of the variables at the last stage only. In other words, suppose the performance index is also a function of controls and variables at the other stages. Then we have a nonseparable optimal control problem. Furthermore, we obtain the path from the initial point up to the approximate solution.

  • Time-optimal control for dmping a one-dimensional xenon-induced spatial power oscillations in pressurized water reactor is studied. Linearized system equations describing the spatial xenon oscillations have been derived based on lambda mode analysis. Optimal control strategies, eventually bang-bang controls, have been drawn applying Pontryagins Minimum Principle, subject to a band constraint on available contros strength. Validity of the linearized system equations and optimal control strategies derived has been demonstrated through conputer simulations which incorporate the finite difference method for one dimensional axial geometry, for the soulution of the two-group neutron diffusion equations. The results obtained through computer simulations show that xenon-induced transients can be suppressed successfully with bang-bang control.

Load Frequency Control by Optimal Linear Tracking (최적선형 추적법에 의한 부하-주파수제어)

  • This paper presents a load frequency control by optimal linear tracking, which can be well adapted to practical power systems with successive load disturbances. Conventional Load Frequency Controls (LEC's) have a feedback control scheme of the state error deviated from the post-disturbance steady state. This requires the modification of reference everytime the system encounters load changes. In this study, a new feedback scheme of LEC is developed by using the optimal linear tracking method with a fixed reference. As a result, the proposed LFC, which requires no reference modification, can be efficiently applied to power systems with successive disturbances such as load changes due to the on-off operations of reclosers or feeder switches. Another feature of the proposed LFC is that it adopts an algorithm to calculate an optimal post-fault steady state with the consideration of control input changes. The proposed LFC has been tested for a 2-area power system, which shows that it can be well adapted to successive load disturbances with good frequency response.

  • For a central cooling system of a medical facility composed of absorption chiller and screw chiller, the study was conducted on how to minimize the energy cost. In consideration of the energy cost, the optimal operation method in which the operation method of the heat source is changed according to the size of the cooling load was derived through simulation analysis. When applying the optimal operation method, the indoor environment, energy consumption, and energy cost were analyzed and compared with the reference operation method.

  • Korea district heating systems have mainly used setting temperature control and outdoor reset control. Different from such conventional normal methods, a thermal-load control proposed in Sweden can decrease the return temperature and reduce pump power consumptions because the control is able to provide the appropriate amount of required heat. In this study, further improved predictive optimal control in addition to the conventional controls were simulated in order to verify its effect in district heating system using TRNSYS 17. $200m^2$ apartment housing which accounts for 25% in Korea and is used as a calculation model;. the number of households in the simulation was 9. As a result, a higher temperature difference and decreasing flow rate at primary loop were shown when using thermal-load control.

Performance Evaluation of Seismic Vibration Control of Asymmetrical Cable-Stayed Bridge Using MR Damper (MR 댐퍼를 이용한 비대칭 사장교의 지진 진동제어 성능평가)

  • A study has been carried out that effectively controls the vibration of asymmetric cable-stayed bridges caused by earthquakes with MR dampers. In order to enhance the practical serviceability of MR dampers, an asymmetric cable-stayed bridge structure has been designed and produced, and a MR damper has been produced so as to have this bridge structure controlled appropriately. An experiment that controls vertical and horizontal vibrations has been carried out by exciting the asymmetric cable-stayed bridge in the horizontal direction with the El-centro seismic wave. The control performance of the MR damper has been evaluated under the five control conditions in the experiments of vibration control in each direction. As a result of the experiment, MR dampers were proved to control vibrations more effectively when either Lyapunov control algorithm or Clipped-optimal control algorithm was used to control vibrations of the asymmetric cable-stayed bridge caused by earthquakes. In addition, different controlling effects were found in vibration controls in vertical and horizontal directions due to the asymmetry of the structure and the horizontal excitation. With such controlling effects, semi-active MR dampers are evaluated to effectively control vibrations caused by earthquakes in flexible and asymmetric structures such as asymmetric cable-stayed bridges.
