  • We describe a constrained optimal classification rule for the case when the prior probability of an observation belonging to one of the two populations is unknown. This is done by suggesting a balanced design for the classification experiment and constructing the optimal rule under the balanced design condition. The rule si characterized by a constrained minimization of total risk of misclassification; the constraint of the rule is constructed by the process of equation between Kullback-Leibler's directed divergence measures obtained from the two population conditional densities. The efficacy of the suggested rule is examined through two-group normal classification. This indicates that, in case little is known about the relative population sizes, dramatic gains in accuracy of classification result can be achieved.

  • We describe a formal approach to the construction of optimal classification rule for the two-group normal classification with equal population mean problem. Based on the utility function of Bernardo, we suggest a balanced design for the classification and construct the optimal rule under the balanced design condition. The rule is characterized by a constrained minimization of total risk of misclassification, the constraint of which is constructed by the process of equation between expected utilities of the two group conditional densities. The efficacy of the suggested rule is examined through numerical studies. This indicates that, in case little is known about the relative population sizes, dramatic gains in accuracy of classification result can be achieved.

  • The problem considered here is to find the optimal discriminant analysis method in growth curve model. It has been studied how to find correct prior probability for the effective classification in discriminant analysis. We use the balanced condition to calculate prior probability. From the informative simulation study, new classification rule for the growth curve model is suggested. The suggested classification rule has better classification result than the other previously suggested method in terms of error rate criterion.

  • This study presents a rule-based urban image classification method for time series analysis of changes in the vicinity of Asan-si and Cheonan-si in Chungcheongnam-do, using Landsat satellite images (1991-2006). The area has been highly developed through the relocation of industrial facilities, land development, construction of a high-speed railroad, and an extension of the subway. To determine the yearly changing pattern of the urban area, eleven classes were made depending on the trend of development. An algorithm was generalized for the rules to be applied as an unsupervised classification, without the need of training area. The analysis results show that the urban zone of the research area has increased by about 1.53 times, and each correlation graph confirmed the distribution of the Built Up Index (BUI) values for each class. To evaluate the rule-based classification, coverage and accuracy were assessed. When Optimal allowable factor=0.36, the coverage of the rule was 98.4%, and for the test using ground data from 1991 to 2006, overall accuracy was 99.49%. It was confirmed that the method suggested to determine the maximum allowable factor correlates to the accuracy test results using ground data. Among the multiple images, available data was used as best as possible and classification accuracy could be improved since optimal classification to suit objectives was possible. The rule-based urban image classification method is expected to be applied to time series image analyses such as thematic mapping for urban development, urban development, and monitoring of environmental changes.

  • This study proposes a fuzzy classification using EM algorithm. For cluster validation, this approach iteratively estimates the class-parameters in the fuzzy training for the sample classes and continuously computes the log-likelihood ratio of two consecutive class-numbers. The maximum ratio rule is applied to determine the optimal number of classes.

  • Neural Network has good performance in pattern classification, control and many other fields by learning ability. However, there is effective rule or systematic approach to determine optimal structure. In this paper, we propose a new method to find optimal structure of feed-forward multi-layer neural network as a kind of pruning method. That eliminating redundant elements of neural network. To find redundant elements we analysis error and weight changing with Rough Set Theory, in condition of executing back-propagation leaning algorithm.

  • Automatic document classification may differ significantly according to the characteristics of documents that are subject to classification, as well as classifier's performance. This research identifies e-mail document's characteristics to apply a three-step preprocessing algorithm that can minimize e-mail document's atypical characteristics. In the first 5go, uncertain based sampling algorithm that used Mean Absolute Deviation(MAD), is used to address the question of selection learning document for the rule generation at the time of classification. In the subsequent stage, Weighted vlaue assigning method by attribute is applied to increase the discriminating capability of the terms that appear on the title on the e-mail document characteristic level. in the third and last stage, accuracy level during classification by each category is increased by using Naive Bayesian Presumptive Algorithm's Dynamic Threshold. And, we implemented an E-Mail Recommendtion System using a three-step preprocessing algorithm the enable users for direct and optimal classification with the recommendation of the applicable category when a mail arrives.

  • Electroencephalogram (EEG) recording provides a new way to support human-machine communication. It gives us an opportunity to analyze the neuro-dynamics of human cognition. Machine learning is a powerful for the EEG classification. In addition, machine learning can compensate for high variability of EEG when analyzing data in real time. However, the optimal EEG electrode location must be prioritized in order to extract the most relevant features from brain wave data. In this paper, we propose an intelligent system model for the extraction of EEG data by training the optimal electrode location of EEG in a specific problem. The proposed system is basically a fuzzy system and uses a neural network structurally. The fuzzy clustering method is used to determine the optimal number of fuzzy rules using the features extracted from the EEG data. The parameters and weight values found in the process of determining the number of rules determined here must be tuned for optimization in the learning process. Genetic algorithms are used to obtain optimized parameters. We present useful results by using optimal rule numbers and non - symmetric membership function using EEG data for four movements with the right arm through various experiments.

  • This paper proposes an approach to deriving a fuzzy classifier based on evolutionary supervised clustering, which identifies the optimal clusters necessary to classify classes. The clusters are formed by multi-dimensional weighted Euclidean distance, which allows clusters of varying shapes and sizes. A cluster induces a Gaussian fuzzy antecedent set with unique variance in each dimension, which reflects the tightness of the cluster. The fuzzy classifier is com-posed of as many classification rules as classes. The clusters identified for each class constitute fuzzy sets, which are joined by an "and" connective in the antecedent part of the corresponding rule. The approach is evaluated using six data sets. The comparative results with different classifiers are given.are given.
