Complex Quadrature Spatial Modulation

  • In this paper, we propose a spatial modulation (SM) scheme referred to as complex quadrature SM (CQSM). In contrast to quadrature SM (QSM), CQSM transmits two complex signal constellation symbols on the real and quadrature spatial dimensions at each channel use, increasing the spectral efficiency. To achieve that, signal symbols transmitted at any given time instant are drawn from two different modulation sets. The first modulation set is any of the conventional QAM/PSK alphabets, while the second is a rotated version of it. The optimal rotation angle is obtained through simulations for several modulation schemes and analytically proven for the case of QPSK, where both results coincide. Simulation results showed that CQSM outperformed QSM and generalized SM by approximately 5 dB and 4.5 dB, respectively, for the same transmission rate. Its performance was similar to that of QSM; however, it achieved higher transmission rates. It was additionally shown numerically and analytically that CQSM outperformed QSM for a relatively large number of transmit antennas.

적응 변조 시스템에서 최적의 터보 부호화된 V-BLAST 기법의 성능 분석 (Performance Analysis of the Optimal Turbo Coded V-BLAST technique in Adaptive Modulation System)

  • 본 논문에서는 V-BLAST (Vertical-Bell-lab Layered Space Time)의 두 디코딩 과정인 ordering과 slicing에 사전 확률 (a priori probability)로 사용하기 위해서 반복 디코딩 (iterative decoding)을 사용한 MAP (Maximum A Posteriori) 디코더의 외부 정보 (extrinsic information)를 이용한 최적의 터보 부호화된 (Turbo Coded) V-BLAST 기법을 적용한 적응 변조 시스템 (adaptive modulation system)을 제시 후 성능을 관찰한다. 또한 적응 변조 시스템에서 간단하게 V-BLAST 시스템과 터보 부호화 (Turbo Coding) 기법이 결합된 기존의 터보 부호화된 V-BLAST 기법을 적용한 경우에 비하여 어느 정도 전송률 (throughput)향상이 있는가를 살펴본다. 실험결과, 적응 변조 시스템에서 최적의 터보 부호화된 V-BLAST 기법을 적용한 경우가 기존의 터보 부호화된 V-BLAST 기법을 적용한 경우에 비하여 전송률 성능이 우수함을 보였다. 특히, 실험 결과는 2.5 Mbps의 전송률에서 1.5 dB의 SNR 이득을 보인다.

  • The effects of time delay between a video signal and a current signal applied to velocity modulation coil on free-spot movement and beam size were measured and analyzed quantitatively in this study. The result shows that it is the most important to avoid signal mismatching in order to achieve the optimal velocity modulation performance.

  • Recently, according to the growth of national economy and the improvement of lining conditions, electric power demand is increasing gradually. So it is being examined to construct large thermal power plants or nuclear plants. For the effective use of lands and for the economy of generations sites, the distance between generation and demand locations becomes farther and farther. At the same time, people desire higher quality or electric power. So in this paper, the optimal modulation controller for HVDC transmission system are designed by a recursive algorithm that determines the state weighting matrix Q of a linear quadratic performance. It means that the application of optimal modulation controller in HVDC transmission system can contribute the propriety to the improvement of the stability in HVDC transmission system.

Analysis and Evaluation of Slanted-edge-based Modulation Transfer Function and Focus Measurements for Optimal Assembly of Imaging Modules in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy

  • We explored a method to evaluate imaging performance for the optimal assembly of an endoscopic miniature lens and a sensor constituting an imaging module at the distal end of gastrointestinal endoscopy. For the assembly of the imaging module, the image sensor was precisely located at the focal plane when collimated light passed through the endoscopic lens. As another method, the distance between the lens and sensor was adjusted to obtain the highest focus index from images measured the star chart of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard at various positions. We analyzed the slanted-edge modulation transfer function (MTF), corresponding depth of field, and number of line pairs for MTF 50% and 20% at each working distance within the range of 5-100 mm for imaging modules assembled in different ways. Assembly conditions of the imaging module with better MTF performance were defined for each working distance range of 5-30 mm and 30-100 mm, respectively. In addition to the MTF performance, the focus index of each assembled module was also compared. In summary, we examined the performance of imaging modules assembled with different methods within the suggested working distance and tried to establish the optimal assembly protocol.

  • This paper presents the linearized optimal PWM techniques for current source GTO converter. This proposed method is to linearize an optimal PWM modulation strategy so that the turn-on/off-periods of the GTO switches can be computed on-line in real-time for any modulation index. This allows the rapid and continuous regulation of the DC output current while producing the sinusoidal AC input current waveform and unit power factor.

  • In this study, the design simulation for optimal wire batch around service line was made to improve the dielectric strength at the primary winding using Finite Element Method. The automatic convergence algorithm for finding of limit object value using loop circulation method was developed to make the optimal design simulator. The modulation method was suggested to make division time faster which was very important for full simulation efficiency. As a result, the simulation time was reduced and the optimal wire batch design was obtained.

Optimal Selection of Arm Inductance and Switching Modulation for Three-Phase Modular Multilevel Converters in Terms of DC Voltage Utilization, Harmonics and Efficiency

  • The arm inductance (AI) of a modular multilevel converter (MMC) affects both the fault and circulating current magnitudes. In addition, it has an impact on the inverter efficiency and harmonic content. In this study, the AI of a three-phase MMC is optimized in a novel way in terms of DC voltage utilization, harmonics and efficiency. This MMC has 10 submodules (SM) per arm and the power circuit topology of the SM is a half-bridge. The optimum AI is adopted and verified in an MMC that has 100 SMs per arm. Then the phase shift (PS) and phase disposition (PD) pulse width modulation (PWM) methods are investigated for better DC voltage utilization, efficiency and harmonics. It is found that similar performances are obtained for both modulation techniques in terms of DC voltage utilization. However, the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the PS-PWM is found to be 0.02%, which is slightly lower than the THD of the PD-PWM at 0.16%. In efficiency calculations, the switching and conduction losses for all of the semiconductor are considered separately and the minimum efficiency of the 100-SM based MMC is found to be 99.62% for the PS-PWM and 99.64% for the PD-PWM with the optimal value of the AI. Simulation results are verified with an experimental prototype of a 6-SM based MMC.

선택적 전송 다이버시티 기법을 적용한 최적의 터보 부호화된 V-BLAST 적응변조 시스템의 성능 개선 (Improvement of the Adaptive Modulation System with Optimal Turbo Coded V-BLAST Technique using STD Scheme)

  • 본 논문에서는 V-BLAST (Vertical-Bell-lab Layered Space Time) 복호 알고리즘의 ordering과 slicing 과정에 MAP(Maximum A Posteriori) 디코더의 외부 정보 (extrinsic information)를 이용한 최적의 터보 부호화된 (Optimal Turbo Coded) V-BLAST 적응 변조 시스템을 제안 후 성능을 관찰한다. 외부정보는 ordering과 slicing에 사전 확률 (a priori probability) 로서 사용되며 시스템 복호 과정은 주 반복 (Main Iteration) 및 부 반복 (Sub Iteration) 과정으로 이루어진다. 채널 상태에 따라 변조 방식을 달리하는 적응 변조 시스템을 기존의 터보 부호화 (Turbo Coding) 된 V-BLAST 시스템과 최적의 터보 부호화된 V-BLAST 시스템에 각각 적용하고 전송률 (throughput) 을 비교하여 제안된 시스템을 적용할 경우 어느 정도의 성능 개선이 있는가를 살펴본다. 또한, 제안된 시스템에 선택적 전송 다이버시티 (STD : Selection Transmit Diversity) 기법을 적용한 후 성능의 향상을 관찰한다. 모의 실험결과, 적응 변조 시스템에서 최적의 터보 부호화된 V-BLAST 기법을 적용한 경우가 기존의 터보 부호화된 V-BLAST 기법을 적용한 경우에 비하여 11 dB의 SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) 영역에서 최대 약 350 kbps의 전송률 향상이 나타났다. 특히, 제안된 시스템에 선택적 전송 다이버시티가 적용된 경우에는 송수신 안테나가 각각 2개인 기존의 터보 부호화된 V-BLAST 기법을 적용한 시스템의 경우에 비하여 같은 SNR 영역에서 최대 약 1.77 Mbps의 전송률이 개선됨을 보였다.

칼만필터를 이용한 부유체운동의 최적제어 (Optimal Control of Dynamic Positioned Vessel Using Kalman Filtering Techniques)

  • A dynamically positioned vessel must be capable of maintaining a specified position and direction by controlling the thruster devices. The motions of a vessel are often assuned to tne sum of low frequency(LF)motions and high frequency(HF)motions. The former is mainly due to wind, current and second order wave forces, while the latter is mainly due to first order wave forces. In order to avoid the high frequency thruser modulation, the control system must include filters to estimate the low frequency motions from the measured motion signals, This paper presents a control system based on Kalman filtering technique and optimal control tyeory. Using the combined kalmam filter, LF motion estimates and HF ones are achieved from the motion measurement of the vessel. The estimated low frequency motions are used as inputs to the dynamic positioning system. The thruster modulation is minimized using the optimal control theory; Linear Quadratic Gaussian(LQG)controller. The performances of the Kalman filter and the dynamic positioned vessel are investigated by computer simulation.
