The effect of major operating parameters in spray drying sorber(=SDS) for automatic control for the simultaneous removal of acidic and organic gaseous pollutants from solid waste incinerator was performed. The field experiment was carried out in pilot scale test for the quantification of major operating parameters of hydrophilic and the hydrophobic pollutants. The removal efficiencies of $SO_2$and HCI in the 5wt% slurry condition were being increased with the increase of the stoichiometric ration which is the molecular ratio of lime to the pollutant concentration, and with the decrease of inflow flue gas temperature in the pilot SDS reactor. The removal efficiency along the height of spray drying sorber was closely related to the temperature profile, and more than 90% of total removal efficiency was achieved in an absorption region. For the removal of acidic gas the optimum operating condition considering the economics and a stable operation is the 5wt% of slurry concentration, 1.2 of stoichiometric ratio and 25$0^{\circ}C$ of inflow flue gas temperature. For the organic gases of benzene and toluene the removal efficiencies were 20-60% which is much lower than that of acidic gas. The best removal efficiency was obtained at 1.5 of stoichiometric ratio and 25$0^{\circ}C$ of inflow flue gas temperature. The organic\`s removal efficiency along the height of spray drying sorber was quite different from that of acidic gas, that is, more than 60% of the total removal efficiency for benzene and 90% of the total removal for toluene were achieved in the dried adsorption region, which was formed at the lower or exit part of the reactor.
The effect of gas sparging on sonochemical oxidation was investigated in a 300 kHz sonoreactor under various liquid height/volume conditions ($5{\sim}30{\lambda}$, 3.4 ~ 9.0 L), determined by the wavelength of the applied frequency. The electrical input power was maintained constant for all cases . Sonochemical activity drastically decreased from $15{\lambda}$ and the liquid height of $10{\lambda}$ was suggested as the optimal height for 300 kHz without gas sparging. In our previous research, the sonochemical activity observed was five-times higher when air sparging was applied for 36 kHz. On the other hand, no enhancement was obtained at 10, 15, 25 and $30{\lambda}$ using air sparging (1, 3, and 6 L/min) for 300 kHz in this study $20{\lambda}$ and optimization of gas sparging was conducted at $20{\lambda}$ using various gases including air, Ar, $O_2$, $N_2$, and mixtures of Ar and $O_2$. It was found that gas sparging using pure Ar or pure $O_2$ resulted in lower sonochemical activity compared to that of air sparging due to the imbalance between the intensity of cavitation phenomena and the generation of oxidizing radical species. Consequently, the gas mixture of $Ar:O_2$ = 80 % : 20 % (DO saturation ${\approx}100%$) was suggested as an optimal gas sparging condition.
The objective of this study was to determine the effect of different height of drainpipe and growing media soilless cultivated cut rose in container culture. Two experiment were to examine the effect of the drainpipe height and media composition on yield and quality of cut rose, Four different drainpipe height (0, 3, 6, 9 cm) were treated to determine of optimal container type. Yield was the highest at 3 cm drainpipe height, but quality was not significantly affected by drainpipe height. Survival rate of rose was 100%, 100%, 92%, and 92%, respectively. Two different drainpipe height (0, 3 cm) and 7 media composition (pure coir and pelite, and mixed with two media 3 : 1, 2 : 1, 1 : 1, 1 : 2, 1 : 3 v/v) was treated to determine of media composition related to drainpipe height. The supply of nutrient solution was controlled by the signal of water potential at -5 kPa using frequency domain reflectometry (FDR) sensor in mixed coir with pelite 3 : 1, 1 : 1, 1 : 3 (v/v), respectively. Irrigation frequency reduced in high ratio of coir media and 3 cm height of drainpipe. Quality of cut rose except for flower weight and yield until 2nd harvest was not significantly affected by drainpipe height, but yield after 3rd was higher at 3 cm than 0 cm height of darinpipe. In the media composition, yield and qulity of cut rose was increased at high ratio of coir media.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of different saddle heights on lower-limb joint angle and muscle activity. Six elite cyclists(age: $32.2{\pm}5.2years$, height: $171.0{\pm}3.5cm$, weight: $79.7{\pm}5.6kg$, cycle career: $13{\pm}6.2years$) participated in three min. submaximal(90 rpm) pedaling tests with the same load and cadence based on saddle heights where subject's saddle height was determined by his knee flexion angle when the pedal crank was at the 6 o'clock position. Joint angles(hip, knee, ankle joints) and the activity of lower limb muscles(biceps femoris(BF), vastus lateralis(VL), tibialis anterior(TA) and gastrocnemius medial(GM)) were compared by measuring 3D motion and electromyography(EMG) data. Results showed that there were significant differences in minimum hip & knee joint angle and range of motion of hip and knee joint between saddle heights. Onset timing and integrated EMG of only BF among 4 muscles were significantly different between saddle heights. Especially there was a negative relationship between minimum hip joint angle and onset timing of BF in most subject, which means that onset timing of BF became fast as the degree of bending of the hip joint became larger by saddle height. Optimal pedaling will be possible through increased amount of muscle activation due to the appropriate burst onset timing by proper pedaling posture with adjusted saddle height.
Based on the Boussinesq wave model, the wave distribution in the Chagui-Do sea area in Jeju was simulated by applying the directional irregular waves at an incident boundary. The time and spatial variations of monthly mean wave height and period were investigated, which aims to provide basic information on optimal sites for wave power generation. The grid size and time interval of the Boussinesq wave model were validated by examining wave distributions around a surface piercing wall, fixed at sea bottom with a constant slope. Except for the summer season, the significant wave height is dominated by wind waves and appears to be relatively high at the north sea of Chagui-Do, which is open to the ocean, while it is remarkably reduced at the rear sea of Chagui-Do because of its blocking effect on incident waves. In the summer, the significant wave height is higher at the south sea, and it is dominated by the swell waves, which is contributed by the strong south-west wind. The magnitude of significant wave height is the largest in the winter and the lowest in the spring. Annual average of the significant wave height is distinctively high at the west sea close to the Chagui-Do coast, due to a steep variation of water depth and corresponding wave focusing effect. The seasonal and spatial distribution of the wave period around Chagui-Do sea reveals very similar characteristics to the significant wave height. It is suggested that the west sea close to the Chagui-Do coast is the mast promising site for wave power generation.
Objective : Although minimally invasive posterior cervical foraminotomy (MI-PCF) is an established approach for motion preservation, the outcomes are variable among patients. The objective of this study was to identify significant factors that influence motion preservation after MI-PCF. Methods : Forty-eight patients who had undergone MI-PCF between 2004 and 2012 on a total of 70 levels were studied. Cervical parameters measured using plain radiography included C2-7 plumb line, C2-7 Cobb angle, T1 slope, thoracic outlet angle, neck tilt, and disc height before and 24 months after surgery. The ratios of the remaining facet joints after MI-PCF were calculated postoperatively using computed tomography. Changes in the distance between interspinous processes (DISP) and the segmental angle (SA) before and after surgery were also measured. We determined successful motion preservation with changes in DISP of ${\leq}3mm$ and in SA of ${\leq}2^{\circ}$. Results : The differences in preoperative and postoperative DISP and SA after MI-PCF were $0.03{\pm}3.95mm$ and $0.34{\pm}4.46^{\circ}$, respectively, fulfilling the criteria for successful motion preservation. However, the appropriate level of motion preservation is achieved in cases in which changes in preoperative and postoperative DISP and SA motions are 55.7 and 57.1%, respectively. Based on preoperative and postoperative DISP, patients were divided into three groups, and the characteristics of each group were compared. Among these, the only statistically significant factor in motion preservation was preoperative disc height (Pearson's correlation coefficient=0.658, p<0.001). The optimal disc height for motion preservation in regard to DISP ranges from 4.18 to 7.08 mm. Conclusion : MI-PCF is a widely accepted approach for motion preservation, although desirable radiographic outcomes were only achieved in approximately half of the patients who had undergone the procedure. Since disc height appears to be a significant factor in motion preservation, surgeons should consider disc height before performing MI-PCF.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences of lumbar muscle activity (LMA) and oxygen consumption (OC) according to bike saddle height in healthy young men. Twenty-two subjects without musculoskeletal disorders participated in this study. Subjects performed 3 min cycling at 3 different saddle heights with 10 minutes of resting time respectively. Surface EMG was used to assess muscle activity in LMA, and OC was assessed by potable gas analyzer. In the result, there was a statistically significant difference in internal oblique abdominis activity (p<0.05), and the OC was significantly higher in high saddle height than the optimal and the low position of the saddle (p<0.05). This study suggest that changes in saddle height affected internal oblique abdominis activity and OC in subjects, however, saddle height does not have much effect on lumbar stabilizer muscle.
In this paper, we introduced phase optimization techniques in the Soil-Nail design to optimize the reinforcement required for each grade level. The optimal design results at the maximum slope height were further amplified to allow for phase optimization of the horizontal spacing of the Nail in accordance with the change in the height of the slope. The limit equilibrium analysis was performed by step-by-step sloping height, and the safety factor exceeded when the horizontal spacing of four days was fixed. The process of optimization was effectively carried out by densifying the required reinforcement depending on the slope elevation. Also limited to reflect the axial force of the nail into the reinforcement details.Using the method, the members' strength was reflected. When phase optimization technique is applied for each slope height by calculating the stiffening precision, it is judged that it will be more economical to optimize horizontal intervals by effectively reducing the repeated reinterpretation process that satisfies the reference safety ratio for each slope height.
In this study, surface particulate matter (PM2.5) concentrations were calculated based on empirical equations using measurements of ceilometer backscatter intensities and meteorological variables taken over 19 months. To quantify the importance of meteorological conditions on the calculations of surface PM2.5 concentrations, eight different meteorological conditions were considered. For each meteorological condition, the optimal upper limit height for an integration of ceilometer backscatter intensity and coefficients for the empirical equations were determined using cross-validation processes with and without considering meteorological variables. The results showed that the optimal upper limit heights and coefficients depended heavily on the meteorological conditions, which, in turn, exhibited extensive impacts on the estimated surface PM2.5 concentrations. A comparison with the measurements of surface PM2.5 concentrations showed that the calculated surface PM2.5 concentrations exhibited better results (i.e., higher correlation coefficient and lower root mean square error) when considering meteorological variables for all eight meteorological conditions. Furthermore, applying optimal upper limit heights for different weather conditions revealed better results compared with a constant upper limit height (e.g., 150 m) that was used in previous studies. The impacts of vertical distributions of ceilometer backscatter intensities on the calculations of surface PM2.5 concentrations were also examined.
Studies on the optimal location of retail store have been made in case of no obstacle(Minagawa etal. 1999). This paper deals with the location problem of retail store considering obstacles (e.g. rivers, railways, highways, etc.) and obstacle-overcoming points (e.g. bridges, railway crossings, zebra crossings, overpasses, etc.). We assume that (1) commercial goods dealt here are typically convenience goods, (2) the population is granted as potential demand, (3) the apparent demand is a function of the maximum migration length and the distance from the store to customers, (4) the scale of a store is same in every place and (5) there is no competitor. First, we construct the basic model of customers' behavior considering obstacles and obstacle-overcoming points. Analyzing the two dimensional model, the arbitrary force attracting customers is represented as a height of a cone where the retail store is located on the center. Second, we formulate the total demand of customers and determine the optimal location that maximizes the total demand. Finally, the properties of the optimal location are investigated by simulation.
