A new concept of 22.9kV class revenue metering system based on the optical sensing technique was designed and implemented. This paper reports on the performance of a 22.9kV class three phase optical current/voltage metering scheme and three tariff metering system. This optoelectronic system was designed and developed to advance the state of the art in revenue metering. This paper deals with the characteristics of designed optical CPT (Current and Potential Transformer) and optoelectronic demand meter. The extensive field evaluation of the developed system with the existing oil filled transformer and solid state metering pair is undertaking. Upto now the operation of the optical revenue metering system under the field condition compares favorably with the existing system.
Accurate optical texturing of light guide plate over the entire surface area is an important technical issue in LCD TV industry. Injection molding process has the potential to produce large light guide plates having highly efficient optical textures such as micro-prism array. This study is focused on the effect of the degree of replication of the micro texture of the 40" injection molded light guide plates on the overall optical performance of the display panel. Measured replication ratios of the micro-textures formed with three different types of injection molding process were considered in the modeling of prismatic micro segment array. Optical simulation was conducted and results were discussed.
This paper described the development example of optical CT(Current Transformer) and optical PT (Potential Transformer) which is measurement system of current and voltage of electric power line using Electro-Optic effect and Magneto-Optic effect. We designed the optical CT of 22KV class and 154KV class and an optical PT of 22KV class. And now the filed testing is in progress in a KEPCO's substation.
The main purpose of this paper is to present the potential of photovoltaic systems using holographic solar concentrators. A hologram used here focuses light, spectrally splits it and diverts unwanted infrared heat away from the solar cell. The output of the hologram appears as a perpendicular thin spectral line and is displaced to solar cells on both sides. To obtain optimum design conditions we used the coupled wave theory and the vector ray tracing method. The measured data showed that the diffraction efficiency was 75 % and the spectral bandwidth was 350 nm.
Photonic band gap (PBG) materials have been of great interest due to their potential applications in science and technology. Their applications can be further extended when PBG becomes tunable against various chemical and electrical stimuli. In recent, it was found that tunable photonic band gap materials can be achieved by incorporating stimuli-responsive smart gels into PBG materials. For example, the characteristic volume phase transition of gels in response to the various external stimuli including temperature, pH, ionic strength, solvent compositions and electric field were recently combined with the unique optical properties of photonic crystals to form unprecedented highly responsive optical components. Since these responsive photonic crystals are capable of reversibly converting chemical or electrical energy into characteristic optical signals, they have been considered as a good platform for label-free chemical or biological detection, actuators or optical switches as well as a model system for investigating gel swelling behavior. Herein, we report block copolymer photonic gels self-assembled from polystyrene-b-poly (2-vinyl pyridine) (PS-b-P2VP) block copolymers. In this talk, we are going to demonstrate that selective swelling of lamellar structure can be effectively utilized for fabricating PBG materials with extremely large tunability. Optical properties and their applications will be discussed.
The synthesis and resolution of ($\pm$)-10,11-dihydroxydibenzosuberenone 3, a potential pharmaceutical compound, is described. It was synthesized from the 5H-dibenzo[a,d]cycloheptene-5-one (dibenzosuberenone) 1, and converted to diastereomeric isomers using (R)-(+)-$\alpha$-methylbenzylamine. Optical resolution of ($\pm$)-10,11-dihydroxydibenzosuberenone 3 was possible by fractional recrystallization of the diastereomer formed in ethanol. The optical resolution of 10,11-dihydroxydibenzosuberenone through formation of its phosphoamidates 5 using the (R)-(+)-$\alpha$-methylbenzylamine was achieved. These compounds provided the optical rotation of [${\alpha}]=-64.3$ for (-)-10,11-dihydroxy-dibenzosuberenone and [${\alpha}]=+61.3$ for (+)-10,11-dihydroxydibenzosuberenone. The (-)- and (+)-enantiomers were prepared in five steps from dibenzosuberenone with overall yields of 11.66% and 9.38%, respectively.
In recent years, the optical properties of multiple-scattering media like tissue have been studied for their potential applications in medicine. In this work the optical properties of multiple scattering media were investigated using the time-resolved reflectance measurement. The reflected light was measured by time-correlated single photon counting system. The transport scattering and absorption coefficient are related to the initial rapid decay and the subsequent decay in reflected light, respectively. Also the optical properties of the samples were measured by conventional method, ie., using continuous wave light. When the distance between the light source and the detector is over 8mm, the optical coefficient can be measured accurately using the suggested method.
Optical manipulation on microscale and nanoscale structures opens up new possibilities for assembly and control of microelectromechanical systems and nanoelectromechanical systems. Static optical force induces constant displacement while changing optical force stimulates vibration of a microcantilever/nanocantilever. The vibratory behavior of a single carbon nanocoil cantilever under optical actuation is investigated. A fitting formula to describe the laser-induced vibration characteristics is deduced based on a classical continuum model, by which the resonance frequency of the carbon nanocoil can be determined directly and accurately. This optically actuated vibration method could be widely used in stimulating quasi-1D micro/nanorod-like materials, and has potential applications in micro-/nano-opto-electromechanical systems.
In this paper, an optical modulator based on monolayer graphene and triple-layer black phosphorus (BP) heterojunction in the optical communication band range is designed. The influences of geometric parameters, chemical potential, BP orientation and dispersion on the fundamental mode of this modulator were determined in detail by the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. Using appropriate geometric parameter settings, the extinction ratio of this proposed modulator is 0.166 dB, while the modulator with a working length of 3 ㎛ can realize a 0.498 dB modulation depth. The 3-dB bandwidth of this modulator could achieve up to 2.65 GHz with 27.23 fJ/bit energy consumption. The extinction ratio and bandwidth of the proposed modulator increased by 66% and 120.83%, respectively, compared to the monolayer graphene-based ridge-type waveguide modulator. Energy consumption was reduced by 97.28%, compared to a double-layer graphene-based modulator.
Rewritable optical memory devices such as an CD-RW and DVD+RW are data storage media, which take advantage of the different optical properties in the amorphous and crystalline states of phase change materials. The switching property, structural transformation, transformation kinetics and chemical bindings of $Ge_xSb_{100-x}$($6{\le}x{\le}$34) were studied to investigate the feasibility of applying $Ge_xSb_{100-x}$ alloys in optical memory. The $Ge_xSb_{100-x}$ thin film was deposited by RF magnetron co-sputtering system and phase change characteristics were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), static tester, inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometer (ICP-AES) and atomic force microscopy (AEM). Optimum fiim composition of $Ge_xSb_{100-x}$ was studied and its minimum time fur laser induced crystallization and optical contrast fur phase transition was performed. These results might be correlated with the binding energies between Ge and Sb, and indicate that $Ge_xSb_{100-x}$ have an potential far optical memory applications.
