Design and Analysis of A Mini Linear Optical Pickup Actuator

  • This paper describes a mini linear optical pickup actuator. To reduce the size, inner yokes are designed to guide the mover and outer yokes of permanent magnets are removed. Magnetic circuit method is used to determine the thrust force. Virtual path method is proposed to analyze the open magnetic circuit analysis. The magnetic circuit of the proposed actuator can be a closed circuit due to the virtual path model of the outer magnetic flux. The validity of virtual path method is evaluated by comparing to the FEM analysis. Structural vibration is investigated using FEM and the design of the mover is modified to improve the vibration characteristic. Dynamic characteristic experiments shows that the performance of the proposed actuator is enough to be used as a coarse and fine seeking actuator simultaneously and the thrust force margin for loading a focusing actuator is guaranteed.

광력을 이용한 입자 분리 장치 (Particle Separator using Radiation Force)

  • To improve the conventional optical chromatography, the continuous particle separator, the cross-type optical chromatography, is fabricated using micro-channel and fiber optics. A laser beam irradiates into the liquid solution containing particles in the perpendicular to the liquid flow direction. The different sized polystyrene latex micro-spheres, $2.0\;{\mu}m\;{\pm}\;0.02\;{\mu}m$, $5.0\;{\mu}m\;{\pm}\;0.05\;{\mu}m$, and $10.0\;{\mu}m\;{\pm}\;0.09\;{\mu}m$ diameter, are separated in cross-type optical chromatography. The separated particles are delivered to down stream in the micro-channel maintaining the retention distance continuously. The measured retention distances for different sized particles well agree with theoretical predictions.

790 nm의 반도체 레이저를 이용한 미세 입자의 포획 (Optical Trapping of Microparticles Using a 790 nm Semiconductor Laser)

  • 790nm의 반도체 레이저를 이용하여 수용액 속에 잠겨있는 $3~4\mu\textrm{m}$크기의 yeast입자를 포획하는데 성공하였다. 포획된 입자는 2차원 평면과 3차원 공간의 이동에도 안정된 포획 상태를 유지하였다. 이 실험으로 레이저 광속이 매질과 입자의 표면에서 굴절할 때, 입자의 굴절률과 매질의 굴절률의 차에 의하여 생기는 광압의 존재를 확인하였다. 그리고 레이저 광속에 수직하게 입자를 움직이면서 레이저 광속에 수직한 방향의 포획력을 측정하고 레이저의 출력에 따른 변화를 연구하였다.

Investigation on HT-AlN Nucleation Layers and AlGaN Epifilms Inserting LT-AlN Nucleation Layer on C-Plane Sapphire Substrate

  • In this study, we have investigated a high-temperature AlN nucleation layer and AlGaN epilayers on c-plane sapphire substrate by low-pressure metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (LP-MOCVD). High resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Raman scattering measurements have been exploited to study the crystal quality, surface morphology, and residual strain of the HT-AlN nucleation layer. These analyses reveal that the insertion of an LT-AlN nucleation layer can improve the crystal quality, smooth the surface morphology of the HT-AlN nucleation layer and further reduce the threading dislocation density of AlGaN epifilms. The mechanism of inserting an LT-AlN nucleation layer to enhance the optical properties of HT-AlN nucleation layer and AlGaN epifilm are discussed from the viewpoint of driving force of reaction in this paper.

고출력 디젤 엔진의 On-Line 마모상태진단 기술 적용을 위한 기초연구 (A Feasibility Study for Application of On-Line Wear Condition Monitoring Technique to the High-powered Diesel Engine)

  • The calibration of O.M.D is carried out experimentally and is analysed theoretically. O.M.D experimentally measures the change in optical density of artificially contaminated oil which contains Fe powder of 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 70, 100, 200 ppm. The change in optical density, D$_1$ means the logarithmic transmittance of I$_0$ over $I_1 D_2$ denotes the logarithmic transmittance I$_2$ over I$_1$ on electromagnetic force which arranges the ferrous particles along the line of magnetic force. The theoretical D$_1$ which increases linearly as increasing Fe concentrations, is analysed by light attenuation theory. The difference between theoretical D$_1$ and experimental D$_1$ is due to the attenuation of micro bubbles and the agglomeration of fine particles in the sample oil. The calibrated O.M.D is applied to the sample oil from the high-powered diesel engine. Also the results are compared with those out of the off-line techniques such as JOAP and ICP.

평행 평판 정전형 구동기를 이용한 가변 광 감쇠기 (Variable Optical Attenuator using Parallel Plate Electrostatic Actuator)

  • The micromachined variable optical attenuator(VOA) was presented in the paper. The VOA has two single mode fiber(SMF) aligned with free space and symmetric parallel plate actuator with microshutter, which can control a amount of light by driving the actuator. In the paper, analysis on driving performances of the VOA was performed and can be reduced threshold voltage through the decreasing displacement actuating range. This paper presents a VOA that is fabricated using bosch deep silicon etching process with silicon on insulator(SOD wafer. The VOA consists of driving electrode, ground electrode, actuating microshutter, and mechanical stopper. In this VOA, actuating shutter is driven by electrostatic force and the threshold voltage is close to 28V, 46V come along with the spring width of 5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 7${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ respectively. Attenuation range is measured from 2.4㏈ to 16.7㏈.

  • LCD(liquid crystal display) 기판의 표면검사용 광학장치의 성능평가를 위한 변조전달함수 측정장치를 설계하고 제작하였다. 이 장치에는 3개의 막대물체 모양의 USAF(United States Air Force) 해상도 물체와 적분구로 구성한 물체발생장치와 2차원 CCD(charge coupled device)의 상분석 장치를 사용하였다. 시험렌즈의 변조전달함수는 물체와 상의 명암비를 나눈 명암전달함수를 구한 후 변조 전달함수로 보정하여 변환시켰다. 제작된 평가장치를 이용하여 배율 2.6배, F/13.65의 시험 광학계를 평가하였으며, 공간주파수 62.5 1p/mm에서 자오면에 대해서 30.6 %, 구결면에 대해서 26.1 %의 값을 얻었다.

  • The concept of optical mobility in the optical particle separation was derived. To verify the concept of the optical mobility, three particles were chosen to test the effects of optical mobility, namely, PSL, PMMA and silica particles. Three different experiments were performed. Firstly, retention distances of the different sized particles were measured and predicted. Secondly, retention distances of particles, having same size but different refractive indices, were measured and predicted. Finally, retention distances of the particles, which had the same optical mobility but very different sized and refractive indices, were measured and predicted.

  • Recently, optical pickup actuators have been designed to have structures that extruded lens to decrease their height, because they are used in very thin drive for notebook computers. However, because of discordant and undesirable of forces that are supposed to happen in this design feature, subsidiary resonance such as rolling and pitching mode exert bad influence on actuator. In this paper, we presented force constituents to clarify the cause of subsidiary resonance and proposed new finite element analysis method to calculate force precisely, and performed frequency response analysis to evaluate characteristics of actuators. As a result, we could find out design parameters to diminish the influence of subsidiary resonance. Sample actuators designed with appropriate parameters were fabricated and put to practical tests. Comparing analysis with experimental results, we verified the accuracy of the analysis and the effectiveness of the method presented.
