Generation of Radially or Azimuthally Polarized Laser Beams in a Yb:YAG Thin-disc Laser

  • A high-power Yb:YAG thin-disc laser with radial or azimuthal polarization incorporating an intracavity S-waveplate is reported. Depending on the rotational angle of the S-waveplate placed in the cavity, a Yb:YAG thin-disc laser yields 10.8 W and 10.2 W of continuous-wave outputs with radial and azimuthal polarization for an incident pump power of 131 W, corresponding to slope efficiencies of 22.9% and 23.7%, respectively. The output characteristics for each polarization state were investigated in detail by analyzing the insertion loss and the mode overlap efficiency due to the S-waveplate. Further prospects for power scaling will be discussed.

  • 디지탈 비디오 디스크의 약어로 지칭되는 DVD는 현대 과학이 이루어낸 레이저 광에 의한 정보의 기록과 재생을 한층 승화시킨 차세대 package형 광 기록 매체이다. 앞으로 이 제품군은 기존에 분리되어 있던 가전과 컴퓨터의 응용분야를 이어주는 교량역할을 할 새로운 개념의 상품으로 기대된다. 본 고에서는 DVD의 기술적 배경 및 이의 구현을 위해 활용된 요소기술, 그리고 미래기술로의 흐름에 관해 소개고자 한다.

  • Optical disk driver is being used in many electronic products besides computer. In particular, the demands are recently increased as an optical disk player in the mobile products such as camcorder or in the home theater appliances, or etc. However, under these circumstances, the disturbance inputs to the optical disk player increase gradually. In this paper, for reducing the possibility of malfunction of the optical disk player, we propose the method of detecting and controling the non-periodic external shock of the disturbances. Also, we execute some simulations and actual experiments and discuss the results.

  • In optical disk drive(ODD), pickup actuator, which comprises a key part of an optical disk drive equipment. must be thin. compact, and high sensitive. Low tilt is also an important requirement for the actuator, since optical disks are to high density. This tilt occurs from around the axis parallel to the tangential and radial direction of the disk. The main reason of the moment is the coupling effect between focus driving system and tracking driving system. This paper analyzed tut quantity due to focusing and tracking force through coupled fields analysts with electromagnetic analysis and structural analysis.

  • 보호층 0.1mm두께의 20GB이상의 광디스크를 기록·재생하는 High Density Optical System에서는 Blue-violet laser와 NA(Numerical Aperture)0.85의 High NA의 대물렌즈를 사용한 Optical Pick Up이 필요로 된다. 종래의 대물렌즈는 glass 또는 plastic제의 2매 조합 대물렌즈가 많이 사용되어지고 있는데, 이는 두 렌즈간의 거리를 일정하게 유지시키기 위한 홀더 조립시의 공차가 엄격히 요구되며, 2매 조합 대물렌즈를 구동시키기 위한 actuator의 부피와 무게를 증가시킴으로서 구동감도를 감소시키는 단점이 있다.   • The present paper proposes the method which improves a record and remaking efficiency of the optical pickup as applying the mirror where Phase Shift(PS) principle is applied to optical pickup. Plan to get a circularly polarized light quality above quality which is embodied through Existing Quater Wave Plate(QWP) and a function of total reflection mirror as applying PS mirror which integrates QWP with the function of the total reflection to optical pickup. In the present paper, embody circularly polarized light quality through applying PS mirror to optical pickup, and it through, plan to propose to come true the optimization of recording and remaking CD/DVD disc.

  • Recently, in optical storage device technical trends, the size of optical drive is slimmer to adopt notebook computer and the power of actuator is higher to achieve the high transfer rate. However, these trends of optical disc drives tend to increase the temperature of the actuator part, it causes some problems on the performance of optical parts - the resonance frequency of the actuator is down to lower band and the objective lens, coil and magnet are easily damaged. In this study, to overcome these thermal problems, the numerical simulations of heat transfer were performed. As the result of simulations, the thermal characteristic of the hybrid actuator is better than the previous design. And, it shows the good dynamic performance in experiment.

  • The 3rd generation optical pick-up used popularly in resent years is composed of many optical and electronic components such as laser diode, photo diode, beam splitter, objective lens, grating lens, concave lens, collimator lens etc. Therefore, the design of its optical system and its main base which the said optical and electronic components are set on, is complicated and needs high precision. Its assembly and adjustment in the production line is also difficult. This complication and the demand of high precision get its production cost to be high and its reliability to be low. In this paper, the 4th generation optical pick-up is designed and developed, with the hologram device which laser diode. photo diode, beam splitter. and grating lens are integrated in. This optical pick-up reduces the number of points of adjustment by 3, compared with the 3rd generation optical pick-up of which the number of points of adjustment is 6. This optical pickup also decreases by 4 the number of points of W bonding to have bad influence on environmental reliability, decreases by about 10 the number of parts, and establishes about 20% cost-down of material cost, compared with the 3rd generation optical pick-up.

  • 디스크커터 내부부품의 손상과 관련된 원인은 씰(seal)부의 손상으로 인한 윤활유 부족, 토사 및 수분의 침투, 과부하, 과열, 조립문제, 소재문제 등이 있으며 손상 정도에 따라 디스크커터의 작동여부, 즉 회전이 가능한지가 나타난다. 따라서 디스크커터 회전문제에서의 핵심은 베어링의 작동여부라고 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 TBM의 굴착도구인 디스크커터의 재활용에 도움이 되고자 현장 적용된 디스크커터를 회수한 후 분해하여 내부부품을 조사하고 분석하였다. 그 결과, 허브의 부하영역에서의 스크래치는 재활용을 위해 가공작업이 필요한 것으로 나타났으며, 플로팅 씰의 래핑면과 오일상태는 재활용을 위한 성능파악에 필요한 시험으로 판단되었다. 특히 플로팅 씰은 베어링의 정상작동여부에 중요한 영향을 미치는 부품으로 파악되었다. 그 외의 베어링, 샤프트, 씰 리테이너에서는 특이사항이 없는 것으로 나타났다.
