  • Spectral Amplitude Coding Optical Code Division Multiple Access (SAC OCDMA) is an advanced technique in asynchronous environments. This paper proposes design and implementation of a novel quantum logic gate (QLG) code, with code construction algorithm generated without following any code mapping procedures for SAC system. The proposed code has a unitary matrices property with maximum overlap of one chip for various clients and no overlaps in spectra for the rest of the subscribers. Results indicate that a single algorithm produces the same length increment for codes with weight greater than two and follows the same signal to noise ratio (SNR) and bit error rate (BER) calculations for a higher number of users. This paper further examines the performance of a QLG code based SAC-OCDMA system with NAND and direct detection techniques. BER analysis was carried out for the proposed code and results were compared with existing MDW, RD and GMP codes. We demonstrate that the QLG code based system performs better in terms of cardinality, which is followed by improved BER. Numerical analysis reveals that for error free transmission (10-9), the suggested code supports approximately 170 users with code weight 4. Our results also conclude that the proposed code provides improvement in the code construction, cross-correlation and minimization of noises.

  • We propose a multiplexed fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor network for vessel monitoring to measure the variation of strain and temperature by environmental perturbation based on code division multiple access (CDMA). The center wavelength of FBG was linearly changed by environmental perturbation such as strain and temperature variation so that we could be monitoring the state of sensors. A RSOA was used as optical broadband source and which was modulated by using pseudo random binary sequence (PRBS) signal. The correlation peak of reflected signal from sensor networks was measured. In this paper, we used the sliding correlation techniques for high speed response and dynamic rage of sensors.

  • This paper presents the design and simulation of a three-dimensional pixel-by-pixel scanning light detection and ranging (LIDAR) system with a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) scanning mirror and direct sequence optical code division multiple access (DS-OCDMA) techniques. It measures a frame with $848{\times}480$ pixels at a refresh rate of 60 fps. The emitted laser pulse waves of each pixel are coded with DS-OCDMA techniques. The coded laser pulse waves include the pixel's position in the frame, and a checksum. The LIDAR emits the coded laser pulse waves periodically, without idle listening time to receive returning light at the receiver. The MEMS scanning mirror is used to deflect and steer the coded laser pulse waves to a specific target point. When all the pixels in a frame have been processed, the travel time is used by the pixel-by-pixel scanning LIDAR to generate point cloud data as the measured result.

  • In this paper, the network performance of a turbo coded optical code division multiple access (COMA) system with cross-layer, which is between physical and network layers, concept is analyzed and simulated We consider physical and MAC layers in a cross-layer concept. An intensity-modulated/direct-detection (IM/DD) optical system employing pulse position modulation (PPM) is considered In order to increase the system performance, turbo codes composed of parallel concatenated convolutional codes (PCCCs) is utilized. The network performance is evaluated in terms of bit error probability (BEP). From the simulation results, it is demonstrated that turbo coding offers considerable coding gain with reasonable encoding and decoding complexity. Also, it is confirmed that the performance of such an optical COMA network can be substantially improved by increasing the interleaver length and the number of iterations in the decoding process. The results of this paper can be applied to implement the indoor optical wireless LANs.

  • In this paper, we implement an optical code division multiple access(OCDMA) system and analyze the performance of the implemented system. In the implemented system, a transmitter encodes input data into optical pulses by using laser diode, and spreads the encoded pulses in an encoder which consists of 4 stage delay lines. The decoder which is the same structure as that of encoder delays and combines the spreaded pulses, and thus recovers the original data. At first, we discuss the auto- and cross-correlations of OCDMA signals under both environments of single user and multi-users, and then verify the simulation results with experimental results. We also evaluate the effect of a number of stages of delay line and code length on the system performance through computer simulations. As experimental results we can see that if the decoder have the same configuration as that of encoder, the peak auto-correlation characteristics can be achieved, and thus we can recover the original data from received data. As simulation results we can see that although bit error rate decreases as code length decreases or the number of stage of delay line increases, it is difficult to implement the system because the pulse width becomes narrow. From the results, we can apply CDMA technologies to optical communication networks.

  • In this paper, the performance of the optical code-division multiple access (OCDMA) technology on a plastic optical fiber (POF) access network, which had received much attention due to its low weight, large core diameter, flexibility, easy installation, and especially its high bandwidth, is analyzed. Recently, POF was a very attractive candidate for transmission media in an access network based on OCDMA technology. But the conventional OCDMA system only allows finite units to transmit and access simultaneously according to the number of channels which are restricted by BER, and so, in this paper, to resolve this problem a novel multi-priority reservation protocol is also proposed. By using this reservation scheme and a distributed arbitration algorithm, channel collision and destination conflict could be avoided. And this protocol can efficiently support the transmission of multimedia messages that require the different time-delay. The network throughput and average delay using various system parameters have been investigated by numerical analysis and simulation experiments. These results shows that the multi-priority reservation protocol in this POF access network based on OCDMA technology is valid and efficient.

  • In this paper, an asynchronous multi-rate optical wireless pulse position modulation-code division multiple access (PPM-CDMA) is proposed for an indoor non-directed diffuse channel. As a signature sequence for CDMA, an optical orthogonal code (OOC) is used and an interference cancellation scheme is applied to improve the bit error rate. It is known that the optical PPM-CDMA has advantages due to its power efficiency. Moreover, it provides multi-rate services by varying the modulation level with fixed pulse duration. In the proposed multi-rate PPM-CDMA system with fixed pulse duration, chip rate and sampling time do not change for each transmission rate and this simplifies overall system structure.

  • Optical code division multiple access(OCDMA) systems make the active users to share the bandwidth by simply assigning distinct optical orthogonal codeword to each active user. An optical orthogonal code(OOC) is a collection of binary sequences with good correlation properties which are important factors of determining the capacity of OCDMA systems. Recently, 2-D OOC construction method is frequently researched which is able to support more users than 1-D OOC. In this paper, a combinatorial construction of simple multi-weight 2-D OOC with autocorrelation 0 and crosscorrelation 1 is proposed and the bound on the size of these codes is derived.

  • We propose a modified nonlinear fiber optic interferometer which can serve to generate binary optical pulse sequences for CDMA networks, and to decode them. In one arm cross-phase modulation between a CW signal and a counter- or copropagating high-power pulse takes place in sequences of segment connected via VDM couplers. Preliminary experimental results on code generation as well as autocorrelation and crosscorrelation are presented, using Sagnac interferometer. As we expected, the experimental results show that the outputs of the interferometer device are not summed simply on the basis of power, but the sin-squared version of it. Arbitrary codes can in principle be implemented.

  • We have investigated a novel optical decoder for a fiber-optic code division multiple access(CDMA) communication systems. The conventional optical encoder and decoder have the advantage of simple structure. However the number of users in the system is limited by the auto- and cross-correlation properties generated in decoding process. In previous studies, to improve the system performance, although they used an optical code that minimize the sidelobe and cross-correlation, could not yet find a novel methods for performance improvement in fiber-optic CDMA system. Thus, it is necessary to investigate the novel optical decode in order to improve the performance of system. In this paper, we schematize the AND gate logic element(AGLE) composed with 1$\times$2 or 1$\times$3 coupler and the optical thyristor and propose the novel optical decoder using K(weight) AGLE. The optical thyristor only passes the overlapped signal and clips other signals. Such a novel concept means that the optical thyristor can operate as a hard-limiter. We analyze the fiber-optic CDMA system using the novel optical decoder with simulation and is found that the novel optical decoder using the AGLE and optical thyristor excludes the sidelobe and cross-correlation intensity between any two sequences.
