Properties of GST Thin Films for PRAM with Bottom Electrode (PRAM용 GST계 상변화 박막의 하부막에 따른 특성)

  • PRAM (Phase change Random Access Memory) is one of the most promising candidates for next generation Non-volatile Memories. The Phase change material has been researched in the field of optical data storage media. Among the phase change materials, $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$(GST) is very well known for its high optical contrast in the state of amorphous and crystalline. However, the characteristics required in solid state memory are quite different from optical ones. In this study, the structural properties of GST thin films with bottom electrode were investigated for PRAM. The 100-nm thick GST films were deposited on TiN/Si and TiAlN/Si substrates by RF sputtering system. In order to characterize the crystal structure and morphology of these films, we performed x-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AFM).

Magnetic and magneto-optical properties of two metallic phase magnet Co/Co$_2$TiSn films

  • The magneto-optical properties of Co/Co$_2$TiSn two-phase magnet films were studied. These films show that relatively large Kerr rotations which are -0.4 deg. at the wavelength of 400 nm, compared to that of pure Co. It is conceivable that the magneto-optical effects may be due to both contributions of ferromagnetic Co matrix and ferromagnetic Co$_2$TiSn Heusler alloy precipitate. The perpendicular magnetization curve domonstrates a typical bubble domain hysteresis loop. the saturation magnetization change of the annealed film is less sensitive to temperature in the low temperature region and the Curie temperature of Co$_2$TiSn Heusler alloy precipitate is a little higher in the annealed film. These can be explained by the increase of the number of Co-Co exchange interaction in Heusler alloy structure resulting from the change of chemical ordering by annealing.

  • The transparent conducting oxides(TCOs) are widely used as electrodes for most flat panel display devices(FPDs), electrodes in solar cells and organic light emitting diodes(OLED). Among them, indium oxide materials are mostly used due to its high electrical conductivity and a high transmittance in the visible spectrum. The present study reports on a study of the electrical and optical properties of IGZO thin films prepared on glass and PET substrates by the combinational magnetron sputtering. We use the targets of IZO and Ga2O3 for the deposition process. In some case the deposition process is coupled with the End-Hall ion-beam treatment onto the substrates before the sputtering. In addition we control the deposition rate to optimize the film quality and to minimize the surface roughness. Then we investigate the effects of the Ar gas pressure and RF power during the sputtering process upon the electrical, optical and morphological properties of thin films. The properties of prepared IGZO thin films have been analyzed by using the XRD, AFM, a-step, 4-point probe, and UV spectrophotometer.

Optical Simulation of Direct-type Backlight Unit for Medical Application

  • In this study, it was investigated about optical simulation in direct-type backlight design. Direct-type backlight has been used high-brightness backlight such as medical LCD application. The key parameter in designing direct-type backlight was consists of three geometrical dimension such as the distance of two lamps, the gap of lamp and reflection plate and the number of lamps. It has many of variations in optical design and it causes the different properties in backlight system. It shows the best values of above parameters; 26 mm of the distance of two lamps, 4.5 mm of the gap of lamp and reflection plate and 16 lamps. And we produced the specimen as above condition, and acquired good result in backlight such as the value of the brightness is 6423 nit in center of emission area and less than 5 % in brightness uniformity. It shows the effective ways of designing backlight system using optical simulation method for medical LCD application.

Effect of Annealing on the Structural, Electrical and Optical Characteristics of Ga-doped ZnO(GZO)films (Ga doped ZnO 박막의 열처리 조건에 따른 구조 및 전기적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study we present the effect of annealing temperatures on the structural, electrical and optical characteristics of Ga-doped ZnO (GZO) films. GZO target is deposited on coming 7059 glass substrates by DC sputtering. and then GZO films are annealed at temperatures of 400, 500, $600^{\circ}C$ in air ambient for 20 min. in this case of as-grown film, it shows the resistivity of $6{\times}10^{-1}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ and transmittance under 85%, whereas the electrical and optical properties of film annealed at $500^{\circ}C$ are enhanced up to $1.9{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ and 90%, respectively.

  • This paper presents the results of changes of optical properties of front materials in crystalline PV modules. If PV modules on the outdoor, transmittance of front materials is reduced by solar light. That is UV, IR included Solar spectrum will have change the properties of glass. Therefore decrease in transmittance leads to loss of the PV modules output. All the PV modules showed the loss in Isc by 1~5% within few hors. To investigate the changes we are analyzed using spectrophotometer from raw glass to laminated glass.

Structural, Optical, and Electrical Properties of In2O3 Thin Films Deposited on Various Buffer Layers (다양한 버퍼층 위에 증착한 In2O3 박막의 구조, 광학 및 전기적 특성)

  • The effects of various buffer layers on the $In_2O_3$ transparent conducting films grown on glass substrates by radio-frequency reactive magnetron sputtering were investigated. The $In_2O_3$ thin films were deposited at $400^{\circ}C$ of growth temperature and 100% of oxygen flow rate. The optical, electrical, and structural and morphological properties of the $In_2O_3$ thin films subjected to buffer layers were examined by using ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer, Hall-effect measurements, and X-ray diffractometer, respectively. The properties of $In_2O_3$ thin films showed different results, depending on the type of buffer layer. As for the $In_2O_3$ thin film deposited on ZnO buffer layer, the average transmittance was 89% and the electrical resistivity was $7.4{\times}10^{-3}\;{\Omega}cm$. The experimental results provide a way for growing the transparent conducting film with the optimum condition by using an appropriate buffer layer.

  • $MgF_2$ is a current material used for optical applications in the ultraviolet and deep ultraviolet range. Process variables for manufacturing $MgF_2$ thin film were established in order to clarify the optimum conditions for the growth of the thin film, dependant upon the process conditions, and then by changing a number of the vapor deposition conditions, substrate temperatures, and heat treatment conditions, the structural and optical characteristics were measured. Then, optimum process variables were thus derived. Nevertheless, modern applications still require improvement in the optical and structural quality of the deposited layers. In the present work, in order to understand the composition and microstructure of $MgF_2$, single layers grown on a slide glass substrate using an Electron beam Evaporator (KV-660), were analyzed and compared. The surface substrate temperature, having an effect on the quality of the thin film, was changed from $200^{\circ}C$ to $350^{\circ}C$ at intervals of $50^{\circ}C$. The heat treatment temperature, which also has an effect on the thin film, was changed from $200^{\circ}C$ to $400^{\circ}C$ at intervals of $50^{\circ}C$. The physical properties of the thin film were investigated at various fabrication conditions, such as the substrate temperature, the heat treatment temperature, and the heat treatment time, by X-ray diffraction, and field emission-scanning electron microscopy.

The Characteristics of Te-light doped S $b_{85}Ge_{15}$Thin Film as Phase Change Optical Recording Media (Te 을 미세 도핑한 S $b_{85}Ge_{15}$ 상변화 기록 박막의 특성)

  • In ours study, we investigated the various properties in Te-light doped $Sb_{85}$G $e_{15}$ thin films such as the change of reflectance and transmittance according to phase change from amorphous to crystalline states In all films the transmittance was decreased, but the reflectance was increased by annealing. Particularly, the reflectance between as- deposited state and annealed state showed the largest change in the T $e_{0.5}$($Sb_{85}$G $e_{15}$ )$_{99.5}$ thin film at 780nm, which was about 40% in as-deposited state and about 70% in annealed state. Therefore, it might be considered that the T $e_{0.5}$($Sb_{85}$G $e_{15}$ )$_{99.5}$ thin film is recording medium showing to a good optical properties if it is used to optical recording of the phase change type. change type.ype.

Silica Waveguide for Integrated Diffractive Optical Head (집적형 광탐침 헤드의 실리카 광도파로 제조기술)

  • Silica waveguide for an integrated diffractive optical head system was designed and fabricated. The waveguide was designed to optimize the optical efficiency of red and/or blue laser source, and a lab-made RF magnetron sputter was adopted to deposit silica cladding and core layers on SiO$_2$/Si substrates. The cladding and core layers were formed using commercial targets, and the former was done with #7740 and the latter with BK7 and BAK4, respectively The surface roughness of the waveguide layers was measured to be 30.3${\AA}$ for BK7 and 17.8${\AA}$ for BAK4, and the difference of refractive indices between core and cladding layers was 0.9% and 2.5%, respectively. The waveguide fabricated with the core layer of BK7 showed better optical properties when the final diffractive optical probe heads were measured with red laser(650nm) source.
