A novel all optical WDM output buffer (새로운 구조의 전광학적 WDM 출력 버퍼)

  • In a switch routing system, buffers are indispensible to prevent signal collision during routing process. For a photonic switching system, optical buffers are also indispensible if the system requires an active routing rather than a simple optical cross-connect(OXC). To cope with WDM technologies in optical comminication systems in these days, photonic switching system also has to deal with WDM signals. Therefore, optical buffers needed in a switching system has to be routed to the same output. For the receiver to recognize these signals separately, parallel WDM signals during rearrangement process. In this paper, we propose a novel all optical WDM output buffer whose structure, hardware, SNR and BER characteristics are improved a lot comparing with those of previously reported ones. From the analysis of the proposed buffer, the new buffer can hold 255 WDM cells keeping BER of 10-9 as long as a contrast ratio(gain on-off ratio) of optical gate(semiconductor optical amplifier) nside the buffer is 30dB.

Minimum Bandwidth Guarantee for Optical Burst Switching Networks (광 버스트 스위칭망에서 최소 대역폭 보장)

  • We propose the novel optical burst switching scheme to guarantee a minimum bandwidth for multiple classes. To date, QoS studies on OBS network are capable of differentiating two classes, but have difficulties in providing a minimum bandwidth lot several classes because of lower classes' collision with the highest class bursts in the networks. To solve that problem, in our proposed scheme we assign time zones in a data channel for each class periodically, making one burst have top priority at least its zone. Also, the new burst assembling algorithm, as well as the way of managing data channel, is necessarily proposed to coordinate with the proposed OBS scheme. Through the evaluation, we show that the worst-case end-to-end delay is small enough and the received bandwidth of the lower classes is still assured regardless of the traffic load of the highest class.

  • PCI Express (PCIe) bus, which was only used as an internal I/O bus of a computer system, has expanded its function to outside of a system, with progress of PCIe switching processor. In particular, advanced features of PCIe switching processor enable PCIe bus to serve as an interconnection network as well as connecting external devices. As PCIe switching processors more advanced, it is required to consider the different adapter card architecture. This study developed multipurpose adapter cards by applying an on-board optical module, a latest optical communications element, in order to improve transfer distance and utilization. The performance evaluation confirmed that the new adapter cards with long cable can provide the same bandwidth as that of the existing adapter cards with short copper cable.

  • In recent years, WDM networks have received much attention as the Internet backbone networks because of the explosive growth of the Internet IP-based traffic. The Optical Burst Switching (OBS) has been proposed as an effective optical switching technology in the WDM networks. The OBS has the advantages in 1) the high usage rate of the bandwidth, and 2) no necessity of optical buffer. However, the OBS has the burst-contention problem in the networks. The deflection routing is proposed as one of means to solve this problem. In this paper, we propose a new routing method to minimize burst loss in the deflection routing based networks. In addition, we propose a QoS control method using a new routing algorithm. Finally, we show the variety of the proposed methods by computer simulations.

  • Wavelength division multiplexing technology is a promising solution for the next generation optical networks. Optical buffer is a key component for optical packet switching system. It can be used to hold optical packets and to resolve the contention of optical packets. In this paper, we implemented a optical buffer using optical wavelength converters and demonstrated that optical packets are delayed successfully.

  • A driving mechanism and excellent features for an in-plane switching twisted nematic liquid crystal mode (IT mode) that could possibly improve the viewing-angle and color shift characteristics and the cell gap error tolerance is proposed. .It is important that the surface azimuthal anchoring strength of the liquid crystal cell differs at the upper and lower substrates. Furthermore. as a rubbing-free LCD. amorphously aligned in-plane switching twisted nematic mode (a-IT mode) is also demonstrated.

Analysis of AIGaAs/GaAs Depleted Optical Thyristor using bottom mirror (하부 거울층을 이용한 AIGaAs/GaAs 완전 공핍 광 싸이리스터 특성 분석)

  • We fabricate and analyze fully depleted optical thyristors (DOTs) using quarter wavelength reflector stacks (QWRS). QWRS are employed as bottom mirrors to enhance the emission efficiency as well as the optical sensitivity. In order to analyze their switching characteristics, S-shape nonlinear current-voltage curves are simulated and the reverse full-depletion voltages (Vneg's) of DOTs are obtained as function of semiconductor parameters by using a finite difference method (FDM). The fabricated DOTs show sufficient nonlinear s-shape I-V characteristics and switching voltage changes of these devices with and without bottom mirrors show 1.82 V and 1.52 V, respectively. Compared to a conventional DOT, this device with the bottom mirrors shows about 20% and 46% enhancement in switching voltage change and spontaneous emission efficiency, respectively.
