  • Based on a semiconductor optical amplifier and sampled fiber Bragg gratings, polarization-controlled waveband switching in multiwavelength fiber laser is successfully demonstrated at room temperature by using high polarization selectivity of a polarization beam splitter. A multiwavelength-switching operation between eight and six laser lines with signal to noise ratio over 35 dB and wavelength spacing of ${\sim}0.8nm$ has been successfully demonstrated. The switching displacement of the proposed laser was ${\sim}7.1nm$. The intensity unevenness between different laser lines was measured to be less than 6.5 dB. The switching displacement between wavebands (groups of contiguous wavelengths), wavelength channels, and their spacings can be flexibly designed by the selected comb filters.

  • In this paper, we propose Pseudo-TN IPS mde(Pseudo-Twisted Nematic In-Plane Switching mode) based on IT(In-plane switching Twisted nematic) mode that increase contrast ratio from improving optical characteristics and analyze the characteristics of Pseudo-TN IPS uude. Optical transmittance is 25% higher for the PTN-IPS mode than for the IT mode. Because aperture ratio of the PIN-IPS is increased. And the control of Liquid Crystal for adjusting optical transmittance is more easier than IT mode, because optical transmittance variation is linear with applying voltage. Contrast ratio is 8% lower for the PTN-IPS mode than for the IT mode in the horizontal direction. But, Contrast ratio is 20% higher for the PTN-IPS mode than for the IT mode in the vertical direction. It has also cell gap margin and many benefits of IT mode, this may be used very well in the future LC Cell design.

  • We propose and demonstrate a novel polarization- and wavelength-independent digital electrooptic switch in $Ti:LiNbO_3$ with switching voltage of ${\pm}$32V at $1.55{\mu}m$ wavelength. This $2{\times}2$ integrated optic switch is characterized by a step-like response to the applied voltage. Switching is achieved through adiabatic mode evolution in an asymmetric waveguide junction. An average insertion loss of ∼4.5dB and polarization independent switching with average crosstalk of -12dB are achieved.

  • In recent years, WDM networks have received much attention as the Internet backbone networks because of the explosive growth of the Internet IP-based traffic. The Optical Burst Switching (OBS) has been proposed as an effective optical switching technology in the WDM networks. OBS has the advantages in 1) the high usage rate of the bandwidth, and 2) no necessity of optical buffer. However OBS has the burst-contention problem in the networks. The deflection routing is proposed as one of means to solve this problem. In this paper, we propose a new routing method of using deflection routing. In addition. we propose a QoS/CoS control method using a new routing algorithm. Finally, we show the variety of the proposed methods by computer simulations.

  • We report, for the first time to our knowledge, observation of polarization bistability from 1.55-${\mu}m$ wavelength single-mode VCSELs of a conventional cylinder-shape under control of their driving current, and demonstration of all-optical flip-flop (AOFF) operations based on the bistability with optical set and reset pulse injection at a 50 MHz switching frequency. The injection pulse energy was less than 14 fJ. The average on-off contrast ratio of the flip-flopped signals was about 7 dB. These properties of the VCSELs will be potentially useful for future high-speed all-optical signal processing applications.

  • This paper describes the optical resource reservation protocol for Optical Burst Switching(OBS) networks, in which the burst sending time and the burst size at an ingress node are determined by the available resources between the ingress and egress nodes. Our scheme attempts to improve the burst contention resolution and optical channel utilization. We analyze the performance of the optical resource reservation protocol by using NS2 simulator.

  • Optical Internet consists of IP domain and optical (WDM) domain, where the wavelength routing (WR) and optical burst switching (OBS) are the promising switching technologies in the optical domain. In this paper, we perform the simulations on the WR network and the OBS network, and compare their performances. It is verified from our simulations that the OBS network performs better than the WR network when the same network resources are given.
