  • Due to its salient features, the optical burst switch is becoming a key technology for the optical Internet. Within this technology, the survivability issue in the optical Internet has to be addressed because a simple failure causes severe damage to the huge amount of data carried in optical fiber. In this paper, we introduce a restoration procedure that can provide good survivability in the optical burst switch (OBS)-based optical Internet. OBS restoration can survive various types of network failure while maintaining good network performance. We propose novel restoration mechanisms, namely, "temporary Label Switched Path (LSP)" and "bossy LSP," to enhance restoration time and network utilization. The simulation results verify that the proposed OBS restoration achieves good network performance and provides good network connectivity as well.

  • In this paper, we propose a new prioritized Optical Burst Switching (OBS) protocol based on a hop count, which can provide efficient utilization in optical networks. Under several legacy schemes, a switch drops the burst with the shortest time regardless of its traversed hop count. As a result, a dropped burst that have been traversed many hops might cause increased bandwidth waste compared to one that has traversed a few hops. To improve this problem, we propose the Just Enough Time (JET) with a hop counting scheme which can reduce the wasted bandwidth by prioritizing the burst traversed many hops over others. From the simulation result, it is preyed, we show that the proposed scheme has advantages against legacy schemes in terms of the burst blocking probability and the link utilization.

  • Optical Switching Matrix (OSM) or Optical Multistage Interconnection Networks (OMINs) comprising photonic switches have been studied extensively as important interconnecting blocks for Optical Cross Connects (OXC) based on Optical Burst Switching (OBS). A basic element of photonic switching networks is a 2$\times$2 directional coupler with two inputs and two outputs. This paper is concerned with the diagnosis of multiple crosstalk-faults in OSM. As the network size becomes larger in these days, the conventional diagnosis methods based on tests and simulation become inefficient, or even more impractical. We propose a simple and easily implementable algorithm for detection and isolation of the multiple crosstalk-faults in OSM. Specifically. we develop an algorithm for isolation of the source fault in switching elements whenever the multiple crosstalk-faults arc detected in OSM. The proposed algorithm is illustrated by an example of 16$\times$16 OSM.

  • We propose the novel optical burst switching scheme to guarantee a minimum bandwidth for multiple classes. To date, QoS studies on OBS network are capable of differentiating two classes, but have difficulties in providing a minimum bandwidth lot several classes because of lower classes' collision with the highest class bursts in the networks. To solve that problem, in our proposed scheme we assign time zones in a data channel for each class periodically, making one burst have top priority at least its zone. Also, the new burst assembling algorithm, as well as the way of managing data channel, is necessarily proposed to coordinate with the proposed OBS scheme. Through the evaluation, we show that the worst-case end-to-end delay is small enough and the received bandwidth of the lower classes is still assured regardless of the traffic load of the highest class.

  • In this paper, a new algorithm for contention resolution in optical burst switched network is proposed and simulated. The proposed algorithm is made from the all mixing of wavelength conversion, deflection routing, segmentation, and optical fiber delay line buffering. We analysis the performance of the proposed contention resolution algorithm by using ns-2. The application of the algorithm into Korea backbone network shows the superior performance of a low burst loss probability.

  • In this paper, service differentiation scheme using optical buffer that is reduced in size with slow-light technology in optical burst switching networks is presented. In suggested scheme, each outport has buffer to store high-class burst only in case that all its wavelengths are occupied. When all wavelengths are being used, a new arriving high-class burst goes into the buffer and waits until a burst is serviced. As soon as a burst is serviced with a wavelength, the high-class burst at buffer is allocated to the free wavelength. In case that low-class burst is arriving under the same situation, it is not stored at the buffer but discarded. An analytical model is derived to analyze the performance of the suggested scheme and compare its performance with the conventional scheme such as preemption and deflection as well as no service differentiations.

  • Optical burst switching(OBS) is a promising solution for building terabit optical routers and realizing If over WDM. Channel scheduling Algorithm for reduce contention is one of the major challenges in OBS. We address the issue of how to provide basic burst channel scheduling in optical burst switched WDM networks with fiber delay lines(FDLs). In OBS networks the control and payload components or a burst are sent separately with a time gap. If CHP arrives to burst switch node, because using scheduling algorithm for data burst, reservation resources such as wavelength and transmit data burst without O/E/O conversion, because contention and void between burst are happened at channel scheduling process for data burst that happened the link utilization and bust drop probability Existent proposed methods are become much research to solve these problems. Propose channel scheduling algorithm that use Release Time of bust to emphasize clearance between data and data dissipation that is happened in data assignment in this treatise and maximize bust drop probability and the resources use rate (RTUC : Release Time Unscheduled Channel). As simulation results, Confirmed that is more superior in terms of data drop and link utilization than scheduling algorithm that is proposed existing. As simulation results, confirmed improved performance than scheduling algorithm that is proposed existing in terms of survival of burst, efficiency resource and delay. However, In case load were less, degradation confirmed than existent scheduling algorithm relatively, and confirmed that is superior in data drop aspect in case of load increased.
