  • The Schwarzchild-Chang telescope is a confocal off-axis two mirror telescope with D = 50 mm, F = 100 mm and FOV = 8 ° × 8 °. Unlike common off-axis telescopes, the mirrors of the Schwarzchild-Chang telescope share their focal points to remove the linear astigmatism. In this poster, we show the alignment process of the Schwarzchild-Chang telescope with wavefront measurement and the sensitivity table method. Wavefront is measured using the Shack-Hartmann sensor, and Zernike polynomials are obtained from measured wavefront. Sensitivity table method is to calculate alignment errors from the Zernike coefficients. As a result, we evaluate tilt, decenter, and despace of each mirror of linear astigmatism-free con-focal off-axis system.

  • The significant I&T process gain represented by reduction in overall budget expenditure can be obtained from the use of efficient alignment technique for large space optical systems. Such process gain tends to increase rapidly with an increase in aperture and/or in number of optical elements within the system. However, in practice, the alignment of multiple optical components tends to be rather difficult task because of the multiple coupling effects among the elements within the target system. In order to understand and hence identify the complex interplay of the wavefront coupling effects from the alignment process, the original differential wavefront sampling(DWS) method was presented elsewhere in recent years. DWS uses partial differential of the wavefront of optical component and perturbation value of the optical component against a particular alignment factor. The straightforward application of DWS for an off-axis optical system revealed that it tends to give incorrect estimation of the given misalignment state. In this study, we added off-axis correction terms to the original DWS algorithm and investigated its alignment performance. The performance simulation result for a Korsch type space optical system shows that the modified DWS is capable of bringing the misaligned system into the target alignment tolerance only after 3 iterations. It also shows that this new improved algorithm can be used to estimate the source misalignment as well. We are planning to apply this method for the alignment of a 800mm Korsch type telescope in the near future. We discuss the computational technique, simulation results and implications in details.

  • The thrust axis alignment of the launch vehicle is very important because of the misalignment causes the unstable attitude control and results in mission failure. Generally, optical methods such as digital theodolite and laser tracker and mechanical method such as turn table method are used to align thrust axis to vehicle axis. This article deals with the simple method of thrust axis alignment of Kick Motor.

  • As optical fiber communication grows, the fiber alignment become the focus of industrial attention. This greatly influence the overall production rates for the opto-electric products. We proposed multi-axis nano positioning stage for optical fiber alignment. This device has 3 DOF translation and sub nanometer resolution. This nano stage consist of 3 PZT-driven flexure stages which are stacked parallel. The displacement of it is measured with capacitance gauge and is controlled by computer-embedded main controller. The design process of flexure stage using FEM is proposed and the performance evaluation of this system is verified with experiments.

  • The Schwarzschild-Chang off-axis telescope is a "linear astigmatism-free" confocal system. The telescope comprises two pieces of aluminum-alloy freeform mirrors that are fabricated with diamond turning machine (DTM) process. We designed optomechanical structures where optical components in the telescope system can be adjustable on a linear stage. Optomechanical deformation caused by the weight of system itself and its temperature variation is analyzed by the finite element analysis (FEA). The results show that the deformation is estimated in the tolerance range. For the optic-axis alignment of telescope system, three-point alignment (TPA) method is chosen. The TPA method uses three parallel lasers and a plane mirror. Point source images were taken from collimated light and field observation. The performance of optical system was tested by point spread function and aberration measurement of the point sources.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new photodetector configuration that automatically aligns its receiving angle to the incident signal light. Around the central photodiode that receives the optical signal, 4 photodiodes on ${\Phi}$-axis and 2 photodiodes on $\theta$-axis are installed in order to drive 2 step motors in f and $\theta$ direction. The photodetector completes angle-alignment within Isec to the signal light from an arbitrary direction.

  • Ultra-small optical anisotropy of a rubbed polyimide (PI) alignment layer is quantitatively characterized using the improved reflection ellipsometer. Twisted nematic (TN) cells are fabricated using the rubbed PIs of known surface anisotropy as alignment layers. Distribution of liquid crystal (LC) molecules in the TN cell is characterized using transmission ellipsometry. The retardation of the rubbed PI surface increases as rubbing strength increases. The tilt angle of the optic axis of the rubbed PI surface decreases as rubbing strength especially as the angular speed of the rubbing roller increases. Pretilt angle of LC molecules in the TN cell shows strong correlation with tilt angle of the optic axis of the rubbed PI surface. Both the apparent order parameter and the effective twist angle of the LC molecules in the TN cell decrease as the pretilt angle of LC molecules increases.

  • Using a polarimetry based on the rotating analyzer ellipsometer, a technique of measuring off-alignment angle between the slow-axis of the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) polarizing plate and the transmission axis of the compensating plate attached to the polarizing plate is proposed. It is anticipated that this technique will reduce the optic axis off-alignment error coming from the process of attaching the compensating plate to the LCD polarizing plate markedly, and therefore will help maintain the quality of LCD display image uniformly.
