Objectives This study has conducted a network analysis of individual prescriptions from the Donguibogam opthalmic Chapter. In addition, medicinal herbs used for internal use were analyzed. By analyzing the correlation of these two this study aims to investigate the significance between individual herbs used in ophthalmic diseases through network analysis. Methods Medicinal herbs from Donguibogam Opthalmic Chapter were analyzed and herbal combinations were extracted from the medicinal herbs by using the network analysis tool NetMiner 4 program. Result Based on network analysis of medicinal herbs from Donguibogam Opthalmic Chapter, frequently used medicinal herbs and herbal combinations were analyzed and were consisted of 4 communities. Conclusion This study shows the most frequent medicinal herbs and herbal combinations from the Donguibogam Opthalmic Chapter. Based on the results significant medicinal herbs and combinations can be considered and moreover can be used to produce a new combination for opthalmic diseases. Further study is required since this study has excluded the component volume of herbs and the individual frequentcy of each combination.

This study was performed to survey the correspondence between the optical centers and pupillary centers in 224 eyes. The results were as follows: 1. The eye types were 136 eyes(60.7%) for myopic, 85 eyes(37.9%) for astigmatism, 3 eyes(1.4%) for hyperopic. 2. The horzontal prismatic effects of the 35 eyes (in ${\pm}0.25$ < $$D{\leq_-}{\pm}1.00$$) underpassed the aberration of tolerence of opthalmic dispensing in 34 eyes(97.1%). 3. The horzontal prismatic effects of the 167 eyes (in ${\pm}1.00$ < $$D{\leq_-}{\pm}6.00$$) underpassed the aberration of tolerence of opthalmic dispensing in 136 eyes(81.4%). 4. The horzontal prismatic effects of the 22 eyes (in ${\pm}6.00$ < $$D{\leq_-}{\pm}12.00$$) underpassed the aberration of tolerence of opthalmic dispensing in 12 eyes(54.5%).

Glaucoma is an eye disease which is caused by abnormal high lOP (Intra Ocular Pressure). High lOP is caused by the aqueous humor which is produced consistently but not drained due to malfunction of the trabecular system which has a role of draining the aqueous humor into the venous system. Currently, there are some methods to treat glaucoma, Among these, the use of implants is increasing in these days due to many problems In other methods. However, conventional implants are passive implants and have critical disadvantage. Therefore, it is needed to develop an active implant which is composed of a valve actuator, pressure sensor, controller, and power supply. In this paper, we make experiment with the fabricated valve actuator in In-vitro experiment, and estimate the in-vivo result using the experimental result and investigate the possibility of the fabricated valve.

It was made of a chart by new method to be measured the contrast sensitivity for a spatial frequency, and the mean luminance of a lattice frequency was made to three forms of 25, 50, 75% and let it to be ready a CS value from 0 to $10^3$. As a result of measuring of the CS value for a spatial frequency on a target of 12 year old students, CS value decreased of according to down the average luminance value and also the peak position shift to low spatial frequency. The low visioned person decreased the CS value in side of high frequency or in space of total frequency. By the lattice adaptation, a measured CS value was decreased in circumstance regions of adapted space frequency.

This study was performed to examine the cytotoxicity and antimicrobial activity of synthetic or natural preservative. Fibroblast cells L929 were used for cytotoxicity test and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC27853, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC25923, Escherichia coli ATCC25922, Trichoderma reesei ATCC6967 were used for antibacterial and antifungal activities. Benzalkonium chloride(BAC) as a synthetic preservative and chitosan as a natural preservative were used for this study. Minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) of BAC was 0.1~0.01% for P. aeruginosa and 0.001~0.0001% for S. aureus and 0.1~0.01% for T. reesei, MIC of chitosan was 2% for P. aeruginosa and 1I % for S. aureus. This study suggest that chitosan might be useful as an eyedrop.

The corneal power and eye refraction error were studed in 472 unaccommodated right eyes of Korean adult human aged above 20 years. The mean corneal refractive power is 44.08D (female : 44.28D, male : 43.76D). It is 1.1D higher than that of the medel eye by Gullstrand (about 43.0D). The mean corneal power of myopia(44.11D) is similar that of emmetropia(43.97D) and hyperopia(44.24D), but mean corneal power of myopia between the ages of 20 and 29 is 1.42D higher than that of emmetropia. The corneal powers as a function of ages are enlarged with increasing rate of 0.2D~0.3D/10years.

The Stevens-Johnson syndrome is a severe form of erythema multiforme associated with multiple organ involvement that can result in severe mortality. There are many etiologic factors including drugs, infection, or stress ; but accurate pathogenesis is still obscure. Treatments are composed of the removal of possible etiologic factors, symptomatic and supportive treatment. We experienced a case of Stevens-Johnson syndrome with involvement of generalized skin, oral mucosa, and eye involvement. This patient was treated by symptomatic and preventive method including corticosteroid, antihystamine, and opthalmic treatment.

A recombinant human erythropoietin (rHu-EPO), was administered intravenously to beagle dogs at doses of 100, 500 and 2, 500IU/kg/day for 30 days. There were no significant clinical signs such as body weight, food intake, physical and opthalmic examination, urine analysis, etc. Any toxic response was not observed except for enlarged spleen and extramedullary hematopoiesis. No observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) of rHu-EPO for 30 days was considered to be 100IU/kg/day in beagle dogs.

The subchronic toxicity study of rHuEPO, a newly developed recombinant erythropoietin, was investigated for 13 weeks in Beagle dogs intravenously treated with doses of 100, 500 and 2,500 lU/kg/day. There were no significant changes in body weight, food intake, physical and opthalmic examination, urine analysis, etc. Any toxic response was not observed except for enlarged spleen and extramedullary hematopoiesis. These results indicate that the no-observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) of rHuEPO is 100 lU/kg in Beagle dogs.
