  • In this study, we presented a research about the development of the phoropter simulation program for education using the 3-D virtual reality in order to study the ophthalmic optics rather efficiently. Especially, by putting the facility such as the refractive error analysis of the eyeball in the cyber tutor inside, we have made the learner to learn and confirm the present situation of refractive correction through refractive power of principal meridians. By organizing the system which induces the active involvement of the learner and showing the result of the execution to the learner intuitively, the implementation of the more efficient education-environment can be possible. Consequently, it is expected that this program will be greatly helpful for the optician training as well as the ophthalmic optics education. As a next phase of study, we will develope the development technique of this simulator more and extend the cyber tutor contents more and make the web service version of this program to be provided through the internet network in order to inspire the learning desire of the learner more and more.

  • The Human body is subject to two patterns of senescence, both of which are represented in the eye and vision. This article discusses the anatomical and physiological changes in anterior and posterior segments which occur with age. The areas covered include the globe, lids, tears, conjunctiva, cornea, sclera, anterior chamber angle, iris, lens, choroid, vitreous and retina. A sample of 219 individuals between the ages of 50 and 79 years was tested with case history, slit lamp examination, palpebral fissure, horizontal visible iris diameter(HVID) and pupil size. The palpebral fissure decreases with age while HVID remains constant in all age classes. This study suggests that an understanding of anatomical and physiological changes which occur with age is helpful to all eye clinicians because the aging process affects all of the ocular tissues.

  • Purpose: This research measured the near addition powers of presbyopia in wearing the near spectacle for the first time. Methods: We evaluated age, sex, working group, spherical power and cylindrical power and measured the power of refractive error performed the both eyes (310 eyes) of 155 subjects subjectively noncycloplegic and power of addition using the cross cylinder method. Results: There were measured the near addition powers in the range of +0.75D ~ +1.75D. In case of the average addition, they were measured with +1.06D in subjects under 43 years of age, +1.08D in 44 to 46 years, +1.23D in 47 to 49 years and +1.46D in over 50 years of age. The average age in subjects was 47.6 years old and 74 male, 81 female, 71 near sighted working group and 83 far sighted working group. Conclusions: Near addition was correlated with age, working group and cylindrical power (P<0.05, P<0.05, P<0.05).

  • This study is intended to look into the effects of depression and stress on college life adjustment of ophthalmic optics students. To achieve this, a survey was empirically carried out to 142 male and female students majoring in ophthalmic optics at colleges in Gangwon-do. The findings are as follows: Depression had a significant effect on academic adjustment and social adjustment, but no significant effect on emotional adjustment and college satisfaction. Stress also had a significant effect on academic adjustment, but no significant effect on social adjustment, emotional adjustment and college satisfaction. The above results showed that depression and stress were major factors affecting academic and social adjustments, and academic adjustment, respectively. Which means that depression restricted the activities of academic adjustment and social adjustment, and did not have a close relationship with psychological mechanisms - emotional adjustment and college life satisfaction. Stress also had a significant effect on academic adjustment, but did not have a direct relationship with social adjustment, emotional adjustment and college satisfaction.

  • We can see that two images of reflection are observed on the surface of a ophthalmic lens. These are the image reflected from front surface and back surface of lens, respectively. The reflective image shows to be affect by surface refractive power of front and back surface of lens. Total refractive power of lens is calculated by refractive power of front and back surface of lens. Accordingly, the ratio of image on the lens surface is able to measure refractive power of ophthalmic lens without helping of the lensmeter. The ratio of two reflective image measured on the lens surface is compared with the calculated ratio by the power measurement.

  • Purpose: To understand the status and actual condition of clinical practice in ophthalmic optics and offer a effective operation plan and improvement of quality of clinical practice. Methods: The school survey were investigated from 30 ophthalmic optics school and student survey were investigated from 161 students among these 4 schools. Results: 'No specific program for clinical practice' were 60.7%. Most schools apply clinical practice to credit (96.4%) but naming of subject and credit were varied in each school. 'Communication skill' was most difficult task and 'cleaning and arrangement of frame and stuff' were major task to students during clinical practice. Best benefits through clinical practice was 'knowing real status of optical business'. Comparison in carrier preference, optical shop and spectacles/contact lens company were decreased and eye hospital and norelation work were increased after clinical practice. Conclusions: Wide study on effective operation plan for clinical practice in ophthalmic optics and on the improvement of students' satisfaction and close cooperation and interest were needed between schools and clinical practice places.

  • Purpose: To investigate optical shop startup awareness of ophthalmic optics students as a basic source for startup education. Methods: Total of 287 students from three ophthalmic optics college in kyung-gi region was surveyed and analyzed using SPSS analysis. Results: Optical shop startup business plan of ophthalmic optics students was very high (80.1%). For startup timing, over 6yrs of employe (37.0%) was most and there was significant difference according to age (p<.001) and optician family present (p<.05). For startup type, single startup type (37%) was most and there was significant difference according to grade (p<.01). For startup unit of space, 30 pyong (43.5%) was most, Seoul metropolitan area and kyung-gi region (54.4%) was most for startup region, and station area (40.8%) was most for startup location. The reason of non-startup was eye hospital and glass related company employe (35.7%) was most and optical shop employe (35.7%) was most for non-startup planner's way. Conclusions: Startup business plan was very high and need to have startup education for there startup provision.
