A 4-year-old female Shih-tzu with severe episcleral congestion and buphthalmos in left eye was referred to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Chonnam National University in October 1998. During two months in local veterinary clinics, the dog had been treated unsuccessfully with tarsorrhaphy and antibiotics. By history taking, cause of the glaucoma was ascertained as accidental nonpenetrated cornea trauma by owner, Ophthalmic examination revealed that the left eye was buphthalmic with severe episcleral congestion, pain and fever. The direct pupillary light response could not be evaluated in the left eye, but right eye had normal reaction. The intraocular pressure was 4.5 mmHg in the right eye and 33 mmHg in the left eye, as measured with a Schiotz tonometer, Ultrasonographic finding revealed hyperechoic vitrous body and central echofree material. The Schirmer tear test showed 20 mm in the left eye and 8 mm in the right eye. The hematologic examination revealed monocytosis. The initial medical treatment was admitted, but there was no response. Transpalpebral enucleation in the left eye under inhalation anesthesia with enflurane 1.2 vol% in oxygen was performed. The day after operation the left eye ravealed no exudate, and pain, and the systemic vital signs were normal. The prognosis is excellent.
This experiment is to evaluate the physical properties of the hydrogel lens with the addition of carbon-based nanomaterials, Graphene oxide and Carbon nanotube, and to confirm the improvement of strength. Hyaluronic acid, a hydrophilic substance, was used as an additive by using HEMA (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as a base monomers. Graphene oxide and two types of Carbon nanotubes(Amide functionalized and Carboxilic acid functionalized) were added 0.1%, 0.3%, 0.5%, respectively, and the physical properties were analyzed by measuring water content, refractive index, breaking strength and SEM image. In the case of the sample added with each carbon nano material, the water content tended to increase for all three materials. The breaking strength tended to increase in Graphene oxide and Carbon nanotube; Carboxilic acid functionalized, but in the case of Carbon nanotube; amide fuctionalized, the breaking strength tended to decrease. However, Carbon nanotube; amide fuctionalized had the highest breaking strength among the three nano materials. Thus, the addition of certain carbon nanomaterials seems to be appropriate for improving the strength of hydrogel lenses.
The heating unit of direct heating method manufactured as the plasma spray coating of $TiO_2/NiCr$ conductive heating material on the surface of heating unit in order to improve the disadvantages of indirect heating method. $TiO_2$ and NiCr (80wt.%Ni-20wt.%Cr) that had the properties of conduction and heating was chosen for the conductive heating material. The compositions of the composite powders were studied $TiO_2-30wt.%NiCr\;and\;TiO_2-10wt.%NiCr$. As the heating temperature was increased, the hardness of heating layer was increased because of the fine microstructure and the decrease of porosity. The adhesion strength was decreased for coarsening and connection of voids in the insulation layer, and the electrical resistivity of heating layer was increased for fine crack formation and growth. In this study, the best efficient sprayed coatings with heating unit was concluded as the plasma sprayed $TiO_2-10wt.%NiCr$ coatings that was heat treated at $300^{\circ}C$.

Purpose: The study was aimed to figure out the effect of materials and pigmentation of soft contact lens on the adherence of Staphylococcus aureus upon soft contact lenses deposited with tear components. Methods: The number of adherent S. aureus on clear and circle soft contact lenses made of etafilcon A, hilafilcon B, nelfilcon A was measured before and after incubation in artificial tear. Furthermore, the denaturalization level of tear protein with time after incubation in artificial tear was estimated by electrophoresis. Results: The adherence of S. aureus was significantly different according to the lens materials. The pattern of bacterial adherence on clear and circle contact lenses was different. That is, the adherent amount of S. aureus was somewhat larger on circle lens made of etafilcon A however, amount on circle lenses made of hilafilcon B and nelfilcon A was 89.3% and 71.3% of the number on clear lenses. When the tear protein was deposited on contact lenses, the number of adherent bacteria decreased and its degree was varied according to the lens material. The degree of decrease was the biggest in clear soft lens made of etafilcon A. Anti-bacterial effect of tear protein decreased with time after deposition of tear protein on soft contact lens and the amount of lysozyme also decreased. The reduction of anti-bacterial effect and quantity of lysozyme was different according to contact lens materials and pigmentation. Conclusions: It was revealed that the adherence of S. aureus depends on contact lens materials and pigmentation, and the specification of lens material affects more on adherence of S.aureus than pigmentation. It was further figured out the denaturalization level of anti-bacterial protein on soft contact lens varies according to lens materials and pigmentation, which produces an effect on the quantity of bacterial adherence.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess characterize overseas company's Cellulose acetate glasses frame sheets (overseas company's CA sheet) Also, the optimum content of plasticizer and melt extrusion condition of industrial CA resin were established for appropriate glasses frame. Methods: Overseas company's Cellulose acetate glasses frame sheets (overseas company's CA sheet) were characterized by $^1H$-NMR, GPC, and TGA. Also, the optimum content of plasticizer and melt extrusion condition of industrial CA resin were established. Results: The plasticizer of overseas company's CA sheet measured by $^1H$-NMR was diethyl phthalate, and its content was measured 30 wt% by TGA. Also, industrial CA resin showed enough melting behavior in the range of 190~200$^{\circ}C$. Compared to overseas company's CA sheet's tensile strength value of 2.2~2.8 kgf/$mm^2$, industrial CA resin exhibited sufficient tensile strength value of 2.3 kgf/$mm^2$ for glasses frame. Conclusions: Industrial CA resin with 30 wt% plasticizer content would be a promising material for glasses frame prepared by melt extrusion to replace China CA sheet.
Purpose: This study aimed to compare and assess changes of visual functions in viewing an anaglyph 3D image. Methods: Visual functions were examined before and after viewing a 2D image and an anaglyph 3D image with red-green glasses on seventy college students (mean age = 22.29${\pm}$2.19 years). Visual function tests were carried out for von Graefe phoria test, accommodative amplitude test by (-) lens addition, negative relative accommodation (NRA) and positive relative accommodation (PRA) test, negative relative convergence (NRC) and positive relative convergence (PRC) test, accommodative facility, and vergence facility test. Results: Assessment of the visual functions indicated that near exophoria and accommodative amplitude were reduced after viewing a 3D image, and although there were small changes in relation to these findings, NRC and PRC showed tendencies to increase and decrease at near, respectively. There were no significant changes with NRA and PRA, and accommodative and vergence facility were shown to have improved. Conclusions: Changes of visual functions were more in the 3D image than the 2D image, especially at near than distance. Particularly, the improvement of accommodative and vergence facility could be related to an effect of subsequent accommodation and vergence shift to have stereopsis in the 3D image. These results indicate that an anaglyph 3D image may, to some extent, be the effect of vision training such as anaglyphs.
Purpose: Eye movements and fixation ability are an important procedure to obtain external information and essential means of clear vision. The purpose of this study was to determine the reading performance such as reading time and number of fixations when random text was viewed at varying distances. Methods: Twenty two presbyopes were participated. All subjects were screened for their suitability to participate in the study by clinical examination, and none of the participants had previously worn contact lenses and no previous experience of wearing any types of presbyopic vision correction except single vision. The reading time and number of fixations were recorded using eye tracker while each subjects was waring four vision corrections which included single vision for distance (SV), bifocal spectacle lenses (BIF), progressive addition lenses (PAL), and monovision (MV). The reading material was presented at distance and near distance. Results: Reading time and number of fixations for near stimulus were significantly different among vision correction used in this study (p<0.001). In particular, wearing SV required longer reading time and produced longer fixation duration for near text. However, reading distance text was similarity performed across vision corrections tested and there was no statistical difference found for either reading time and number of fixations. Conclusions: Wearing presbyopic vision correction is advantageous for reading task of near stimuli, but not having near correction such as wearing SV could result in longer reading time and higher number of fixation due to lacks of accommodative ability for near task. For the future studies, it would be interesting to examine the performance of reading both at adapted and unadapted stages as examining only unadapted wearers was limitation of this study.

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the change of soft contact lens parameters after eyeliner deposition and compare the cleaning efficiency and the recovery rate of lens parameters by different cleaning methods. Methods: The eyeliner was deposited on three types of soft contact lenses made of different materials for 1 hour, 4 hours and 6 hours and those lenses were washed by the eyeglasses ultrasonic cleaning and by hands. The changes in visible light transmittance, diameter and surface of those lenses were compared before and after cleaning of the lens. Results: The visible light transmittance of soft contact lenses decreased along with the deposition time of eyeliner. The patterns of the eyeliner deposition on soft contact lens appeared differently depending on the physical properties of the lens material. Thus, the largest eyeliner deposition was found on narafilcon A lens. The diameters of hilafilcon B and etafilcon A lenses were decreased, however, the diameter of narafilcon A lens was increased. The cleaning efficiency of the eyeliner deposition was greater with the multipurpose solution by hands than with the eyeglasses ultrasonic cleaner. However, the recovery of lens parameters such as the lens diameter, visible light transmittance and lens surface due to the eyeliner deposition to its original state was limited. Conclusions: From these results, it is suggested to minimize eye makeup when wearing soft contact lens. Furthermore, the reduced wearing time and shorter cycle of lens replacement may be needed by considering a change of lens parameter when the repeat eye makeup is applied.

We investigated the question whether protein removing activities of enzyme cleaner - protein remover for soft contact lens - are associated with the material of soft contact lens as well as action time, temperature and pH of enzyme solution. We used a subtilisin cleaner as protein remover and estimated the protein amount remained on soft contact lens after using the subtilisin cleaner under the different conditions. The remained protein in soft contact lens was greatly decreased until treatment for 60min, but no significant differences were found from 60min to 24hr. The cleaning effect of the enzymatic treatment in the range of $15{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ was constant. however, there was a significant decline of the protein removing effect at $10^{\circ}C$ and less. The pH of the solution was also important for the efficacy of the enzymatic treatment. The activity of the enzyme cleaner was highest in pH 8.0 and significantly decreased a pH below 7. The pH dependence was found to be related to the conformational change of subtilisin. Furthermore, significant differences in the protein deposit removing efficacy of the subtilisin cleaner were found among the soft contact lens materials.
Purpose: In this study, we studied ocular disease by age in Ulsan. Methods: We checked medical record of 300 patients who visited eye clinic in Ulsan. Results: The main ocular disease on the age of 10 was keratitis, that of 20 was dry eye syndrome & keratitis, that of 30 was chalazion & conjunctivitis, that of 40~50 was conjunctivitis, that of 60 was conjunctivitis & cataract. Conclusions: The main cause of ocular disease of 10~20's are unsuitable wear of contact lenses & long-time use of smart phone as well as computer. That of 30~50's are allergic conjunctivitis and chemical material reaction as well as other several factors. Especially, attack rate of conjunctivitis of 30~50's is higher than city because of industrial area (Ulsan). The main cause of ocular disease in 50~60's is a kind of senility. Therefore, based on the results of this study, it could be used the basic data of education on ocular disease prevention in Ulsan.
