  • Purpose: This study was to notify improvements needed in Cultural studies and Basic subjects to make Ophthalmic optic major curriculum qualitatively better, based on demand for cultural studies and basic subjects on and off the campus. Methods: A survey with questionnaires were carried out for both students and opticians in different provinces. For students, Gyunggi province, Gyunman province, Jeonnam province, and Jeonbuk province, and for opticians Seoul, Daejeon, Gyunggi province, and Jeonbuk province were selected. Results: Students' demand for expanding English courses in Foreign language curriculum was the highest and had significant difference between 2-years college and 3 or 4-years college ( p<.01), and opticians' demand differed from 2-years college and 3-years college ( p<.05). Students' demand for expanding Biology courses in science curriculum was the highest, and also a difference in expansion demands for Biology and physics subjects between 2-years college and 4-years college ( p<.05). There was also a difference in expansion demands for Vocational ethics and Management subjects in Basic subjects between 2-years college and 4-years college ( p<.05), and for Vocational ethic subject demands between college students and opticians ( p<.001), but for Management subject, both students and opticians demanded it to be expanded highly. Conclusions: Expansion and reinforcement in Management subject in Ophthalmic optic major was needed, as both Ophthalmic optic major students and opticians had the highest demand for this subject.

  • Purpose: To understand the status and actual condition of clinical practice in ophthalmic optics and offer a effective operation plan and improvement of quality of clinical practice. Methods: The school survey were investigated from 30 ophthalmic optics school and student survey were investigated from 161 students among these 4 schools. Results: 'No specific program for clinical practice' were 60.7%. Most schools apply clinical practice to credit (96.4%) but naming of subject and credit were varied in each school. 'Communication skill' was most difficult task and 'cleaning and arrangement of frame and stuff' were major task to students during clinical practice. Best benefits through clinical practice was 'knowing real status of optical business'. Comparison in carrier preference, optical shop and spectacles/contact lens company were decreased and eye hospital and norelation work were increased after clinical practice. Conclusions: Wide study on effective operation plan for clinical practice in ophthalmic optics and on the improvement of students' satisfaction and close cooperation and interest were needed between schools and clinical practice places.

  • This study was performed to investigate the ophthalmic findings of the Korean traditional 'Sapsaree' dogs, and to provide ophthalmic references. Five hundred forty-seven Sapsaree dogs were randomly chosen without any criteria preference. Ophthalmic examination was performed bilaterally using ocular equipments, including slit-lamp biomicroscope, tonometer, direct and indirect ophthalmoscope. The obtained data for ophthalmic findings were analysis by the multivariate linear regression model to identify effects of sex, age and hair coat type. For congenital conditions, the incidence of persistent pupillary membrane (PPM) was the most common defect and there was present 8.8 % whereas for acquired ophthalmic diseases, cataract was the most commonly observed (3.7 %) in Sapsaree dog. Other frequent ocular finding included persistent hyaloid vessel remnant (PHVR, 6.2 %) in congenital conditions, and postinflammatory retinal degeneration (PIRD, 3.1 %) and corneal dystrophy (2.4 %) in acquired ophthalmic diseases. Only one significant effect was age of the Sapsaree for PIRD (P=0.040). There are no any significant effect for sex and hair coat types. This study will provide useful guidelines to clinicians and breeders for the basic ophthalmic information on this breed.

  • Purpose: To investigate optical shop startup awareness of ophthalmic optics students as a basic source for startup education. Methods: Total of 287 students from three ophthalmic optics college in kyung-gi region was surveyed and analyzed using SPSS analysis. Results: Optical shop startup business plan of ophthalmic optics students was very high (80.1%). For startup timing, over 6yrs of employe (37.0%) was most and there was significant difference according to age (p<.001) and optician family present (p<.05). For startup type, single startup type (37%) was most and there was significant difference according to grade (p<.01). For startup unit of space, 30 pyong (43.5%) was most, Seoul metropolitan area and kyung-gi region (54.4%) was most for startup region, and station area (40.8%) was most for startup location. The reason of non-startup was eye hospital and glass related company employe (35.7%) was most and optical shop employe (35.7%) was most for non-startup planner's way. Conclusions: Startup business plan was very high and need to have startup education for there startup provision.

  • The a-C:H films have been grown on the glass substrate by PECVD mathod, where plasma was generated with a 60Hz line power source. The carbonization is checked from peak intensities of D($sp^3$) and G($sp^2$) peaks in Raman spectra. The hydronization and C-H bonding status in films can also be determined from FTIR results. Both the bonding strength of C-H and the ratio of $sp^3$ to $sp^2$ in bonding are found to be slightly dependent of partial pressure of $C_2H_2$. Judging from above results, we can conclude that the best value for partial pressure of $C_2H_2$ in growing process of thick films is about 15%.

  • For the prevention of amblyopia, early discover and treatment is very important. Therefore we evaluated the type and the degree of refractive errors of 39 children with anisometropic and refractive amblyopia aged 3 to 12 years, and studied the relationship of astigmatism and amblyopia. Astigmatism was found in 35 of 39 eyes. Of these 35 eyes, with the rule astigmatism was found in 30 eyes. The cylinderical power was distributed mostly from 0.50D to 6.50D and astigmatism did not appear to influence on the initial and final corrected visual acuity.

  • In testing visual acuity of kindergarten's children, single Landolt's ring in chart projector was used under proper intensity of illumination. According to the result of 218 eyes' test, 0.6 V.A. forms 8.5 % at the age of 3, 0.7 V.A. forms 84.7 % at the age of 4, and 1.0 V.A. forms 6.8 % at the age of 5. However, children's visual acuity has been gradually developed with their growth. None of emmetropia can be found through the test. All of the children have ametropic eyes.

  • We tried to design a Galilean telescopic spectacles for low vision which is with reference to goods of German. The design bases are that the magnification is 2.2X for general using and the diameter of aperture stop is 3mm. The Galilean telescopic spectacles is designed by using Sigma 2100 made in Kidger Optics Ltd. As a result, we have got the system that the MTF-value is more than 0.25 at 0.25 cycles/arc-minute and the distortion is under 1%. This system is judged to be useful for low vision.
