  • The continuous increase of crude oil consumption has struck great impact into the world economy, When we consider disadvantageous articles in contract for oil import, it would be desirable to import in batch the total quantity of crude oil contracted, but which is not available under the present situation which has many constraints This paper treats of the ways to deliver the crude oil in a given period so as to maximize the profit derived from the sales of oil products, To do this we should consider the prices of crude oil and oil products, inventory cost, transportation cost, oil refinement cost, and fluctuations of these parameters in a given period. The case of Korea Oil Corporation is treated in this paper to generalize the problem of crude oil transportation from Middle East and formulated in a mathematical programming. This programming is transformed into Dynamic Programming through specifing states, stages, payoffs, and recursive function. To clarify these procedure and methods, the case of Korea Oil Corporation is dealt with again and demonstrated in detail.

  • RFID applications are mostly associated with the timestamp when the events occur. For managing RFID data we need to design data modeling for RFID data to support monitoring and temporal queries. In this paper, we propose a temporal RFID data modeling to maintain the history of events and state changes and to monitor the states of RFID objects. This data modeling involves essential basic operations for RFID data to monitor the information of RFID objects and to support temporal queries. Filter operations can achieve better query performance and obtain efficient storage space usage. It is possible to adapt into different temporal business applications.

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the downtime cost of side-by-side offloading operations in Malaysian waters. With the help of a numerical time domain tool, the structure and cable response of moored FPSO vessel was simulated for heading and beam sea-states under irregular waves. The weather downtime was assessed by comparing the response under operational wave condition with the pre defined industrial safe offloading criteria. Additionally, two cases of cable failure were simulated for each sea-state. The novel study on downtime cost was presented for three different location of Malaysia subcontinent for which the location specific wave scatter diagram facilitated to estimate the probability of occurrence of operational wave condition. It was concluded that an unpredictable increment in wave height by 0.5 m can significantly impact the production cost.

  • We consider a rental company that dynamically manages Its capacity level through capacity addition and return While serving customer with its own capacity, the company expands its capacity by renting items from an outside source so that it can avoid lost opportunities of rental which occur when stock is not sufficient. If stock becomes sufficiently large enough to cope with demands, the company returns expanded capacity to the outside source. Formulating the model into a Markov decision problem, we identify an optimal capacity management Policy which states when the company should expand its capacity and when it should return expanded capacity after capacity addition. Since it is intractable to analytically find the optimal capacity management policy and the optimal size of capacity expansion, we present a numerical procedure that finds these optimal values based on the value iteration method. Numerical analysis is implemented and we observe monotonic properties of the optimal performance measures by system parameters, which are meaningful in developing effective heuristic policies.

  • An integrated process planning and scheduling model considering outsourcing in manufacturing supply chain is proposed in this paper. The process planning and scheduling considering outsourcing are actually interrelated and should be solved simultaneously. The proposed model considers the alternative process plans for job types, precedence constraints of job operations, due date of production, transportation time and production information for outsourcing. The integrated states include:(1) Operations sequencing, (2) Machine selection, (3) Scheduling with outsourcing under the due date. To solve the model, a heuristic approach based on genetic algorithm(GA) is developed. The proposed approach minimizes the makespan considering outsourcing and shows the best operation-sequences and schedule of all jobs.

  • We propose a dynamic incidence matrix (DIM) for reflecting states and time conditions of a timed Petri net (TPN) explicitly. Since a DIM consists of a conventional incidence matrix, two time-related vectors and two state-related vectors, we can get the advantages inherent in the conventional incidence matrix of describing a static structure of a system as well as another advantage of expressing time dependent state transitions. We introduce an algorithm providing the DIM with a state transition mechanism. Because the algorithm is, in fact, an algorithmic model for discrete event simulation of TPN models, we provide a theoretical basis of model transformation of a TPN model into a DEVS(Discrete Event system Specification) model. By executing the algorithm we can carry out performance analysis of computer communication protocols which are represented TPN models.

  • Many physical systems today are modeled by interacting continuous and discrete states that influence the dynamic behavior. Hybrid system models, suitable for describing the essential dynamics of a fairly large class of physical systems in control engineering applications, contain both continuous dynamics and discrete dynamics. We discuss the design of efficient hybrid controllers for the platoon maneuvers on an AHS. For the modeling of a hybrid system including the merge and split operations, we introduce the safety distance policy for the merge and split operations. Then, the platoon system will be modeled by a hybrid system. In addition, the hybrid controller for the proposed merge and split operation models will be presented. Finally, we will demonstrate our scenarios ...

  • It is becoming increasingly clear that participation in the 'new economy' driven by scientific and technological advances will be the way to achieve global prosperity in the 21st century. An analysis of the patents assigned to a particular country, using the techniques in this study, provides a means to objectively assess the potential for participating in that prosperity, and to identify strong and weak area in technological potential. The analyses are based on Korean-invented patents issued in the United States, and on the citation analysis techniques that link these patents with other patents.

  • This paper propose a personalized defection detection and prevention procedure based on the observation that potential defectors have tendency to take a couple of months or weeks. For this purpose, possible states of customer behavior are determined from past behavior data using SOM (Self-Organizing Map). For the evaluation of the proposed procedure, a case study has been conducted for a Korean online game site. The result demonstestes that the proposed procedure can assist defection prevention effectively and detect potential defectors without deterioration of prediction accuracy comparison to prediction by MLP. Our procedure can be applied to various service industries that can capture fluent customer behavior data such as telecommunications, internet access services, and content services, too.

  • The problem of scheduling n independent jobs on serial stages with identical parallel machines at each stage is considered. Each job lot is allocated evenly to all machines at each stage for processing and moved in transfer batches between states., This scheduling strategy is called an identical production pattern. The objective is to find a permutation schedule that minimizes makespan. A branch and bound algorithm is suggested to find an optimal permutation schedule for a transformed problem A number examples is presented to illustrate the branch and bound algorithm, Computational results for 640 problems generated randomly show that within a resonable time the suggested algorithm can be used for transfer batch scheduling in a flexible flowshop.
