Algorithm and Design of Double-base Log Encoder for Flash A/D Converters

  • This study proposes a novel double-base log encoder (DBLE) for flash Analog-to-Digital converters (ADCs). Analog inputs of flash ADCs are represented in logarithmic number systems with bases of 2 and 3 at the outputs of DBLE. A look up table stores the sets of exponents of base 2 and 3 values. This algorithm improves the performance of a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) system that takes outputs of a flash ADC, since the double-base log number representation does multiplication operation easily within negligible error range in ADC. We have designed and implemented 6 bits DBLE implemented with ROM (Read-Only Memory) architecture in a $0.18\;{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The power consumption and speed of DBLE are better than the FAT tree and binary ROM encoders at the cost of more chip area. The DBLE can be implemented into SoC architecture with DSP to improve the processing speed.

  • Small-scale production control systems for smart manufacturing are becoming increasingly necessary as the manufacturing industry seeks to maximize manufacturing efficiency as the demand for customized product production increases. Correspondingly, the development of an embedded system to realize this capability is becoming important. In this study, we developed an embedded system based on an open source system that is cheaper than a widely applied programmable logic controller (PLC)-based production control system that is easier to install, configure, and process than a conventional relay control panel. This embedded system is system is based on a low-power, high-performance Cortex M4 processor and can be applied to smart manufacturing. It is designed to improve the development environment and compatibility of existing PLCs, control small-scale production systems, and enable data collection through heterogeneous communication. The real-time response characteristics were confirmed through an operation test for input/output control and data collection, and it was confirmed that they can be used in industrial sites.

  • SBC(Single Board Computer) is being developed for MSC(Multi-Spectral Camera) on KOMPSAT-2(Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite). SBC controls all the units of MSC system and gets commands and sends telemetry to and from spacecraft bus via 1553 communication channel. Due to the fact that SBC does very important roles for MSC system operation and SBC operates with 100% duty cycle, SBC is designed to have high reliability. SBC which has Intel 80486 as a main processor includes eight serial communication channels, one mil-std-1553 interface channel and several discrete interfaces. SBC incorporates 2Mbyte radiation hardened SRAM(Static Random Access Memory) and 1Mbyte flash memory. There are also PIC(Programmable Interrupt Controller), counter, WDT(Watch Dog Timer) in the SBC. In this paper, the design result of the SBC is presented.

  • 전산기의 신뢰도(reliability)라 함은 사용자가 제출한 입력에 대하여 전산 기가 제공하는 결과의 신빙성의 척도라할 수 있는데, 이것은 주어진 전산기의 부 분품 하나하나가, 그리고 프로그램의 하나하나의 instruction이 설계당시에 목적한 성능을 얼마나 잘 유지하고 있는가를 측정하는 척도라고 볼 수 있습니다. 이 신 뢰도는 전산기의 수명, 필요할 때 전산기가 가동할 확율, 또는 전산기의 성능으로 나타낼 수 있습니다. 제2세대 이전의 전산기들에서는 전자공업과 전산기 기술의 불충분한 발전으로 인하여 비용과 기계의 크기의 한정 때문에 신뢰도 향상을 위 한 대책이 거의 없었습니다. 따라서 현재 볼 수 있는 American Air Line의 SABRE(Semi Automatic Business Research Environment), Bell 전화 연구소의 ESS-I, II, III(Electronic Switching System), IBM의 FMS(Future Manufacturing System)과 같은 real-time 씨스템으로서의 응용분야의 개발은 상 당히 어려운 문제였습니다. 그러나 전자공업의 비약적인 발전에 힘입어 금세대의 범용전산기의 설계가 가능하게 되었고, 오퍼레이팅 씨스템의 발전으로 인하여 multiprogramming, time-sharing, real-time 씨스템 등의 응용분야의 개발이 활발 하게 되었습니다. 이러한 응용분야의 활발한 개발과, 대규모 집적회로 (LSI)의 개 발로 ROM(Read Only Memory)의 가격화, 그리고 microprogram의 보급 등으로 특수 목적의 time sharing operation을 위한 소형 전산기가 발전하게 되었으며 종 래의 범용 전산기 대신에 CDC의 string unit과 pipeline을 이용한 STAR 100과 일리노이 대학의 256processor와 Burrough의 B6500로 구성된 ILLIAC-IV와 같은 초대형 전산기가 등장하게 되었습니다.

Review on Data Acquisition of Renewable Power Generators (신재생발전기의 데이터 취득방안에 대한 고찰)

  • In accordance with the Government's policy, renewable power generation is expanding very largely. This leads to increasing uncertainty in the power market and power system owing to the intermittent and fluctuating output characteristics of renewable power generators. Data on the acquisition of renewable power generators can be largely classified according to the operation of the power market and power system. Data on the settlement for the payment for the power amount are acquired in the power market, and real-time data for monitoring the status and output of the generators are acquired in the power system. However, renewable power generators operating in the power market have different acquisition cycles depending on the method of communication of the power meter. They acquire data only for settlement purposes and have no real-time data, which requires improvement. In this paper, the acquisition status is reviewed by classifying the data of renewable power generators into settlement and real-time data. In addition, measures and acquisition criteria for real-time data of renewable power generators for improving the acquisition method are proposed.

  • This paper propose the methods for input systems which can save video inputs from multic in PC environment. For 3-D display the input data from 4 channels are sequentially disp turn with the speed of 4 times faster than one channels. The system consists of 4 cameras, monitor for monitoring the input process. an input processor, and a monitor which can dis data with the speed of 120f㎰. This paper also discusses the operation of the system and st requirements of the system. The circuit of the proposed system is verified using PSpice simulation.

  • The differential power processor (DPP) system is used to prevent a decrease in the total power generation due to the partial shading of photovoltaic modules. Compared with traditional series strings and full power processing (FPP) converter solutions, the DPP converter system shows advantages in terms of modularization process, volume, and transformation losses. However, the system has a limitation in that the power generation process of differential power processors produces lower power under certain irradiation conditions. This paper proposes a structure and operating algorithm for differential power processing modules that can use a single power converter for multiple strings. The operational algorithm for the differential power regulators allows the maximum power generation to be maintained in comparison with conventional series-connected and differential power processing methods even under various partial shading conditions. The operation algorithm of the proposed DPP is verified by Matlab/Simulink simulations.

  • Recently, drones are being used in various fields, and drone technology is also developing. The risks of drones are increasing, then technology to detect drones is important. However, it is extremely difficult to detect and recognize drones due to the low level radar cross section of the commercial drones. In this paper, a signal processor structure that was mounted the miniaturized and light-weighted was designed. in order to process large amounts of data in real time, parallel processing was performed for each channel and an algorithm was applied to shorten the operation time in each step. As a test of verifing the detection performance through test, it was confirmed that the structure design works in real time.

A Study on the Development of Evaluation Index for the Improvement and Operation of R&D Project Management Process (R&D 프로젝트 관리 프로세스 개선 및 운영을 위한 평가지표 개발 연구)

  • This study is intended to develop evaluation indicators for the improvement and operation of R&D project management process. To achieve this, an empirical survey was carried out to small companies specializing in technology-centered R&D. First, 12 evaluation indicators showed that there was a deviation of more than 2 times from the highest score of 60.77 to the lowest score of 30 in integrated management, which the R&D project management process needs to be selectively used for the improvement and operation. Second, the difference in industry showed that the biotech industry was the highest, while the chemical, electrical and electronic industries were the lowest. Third, the difference in the number of employees showed that companies with 50~100 employees were relatively high, while small companies with more than 100 employees were somewhat low. Fourth, the difference in career showed that 5~7-year career was relatively high, while 7~10-year career was somewhat high. Overall, evaluation indicators for the improvement and operation of R&D project management processor showed that integrated management was the most important, followed by communication management, risk management, and time management. This implies that small companies specializing in technology-centered R&D need to concentrate on the importance of efficient integrated management and rapid decision-making and risk management among individual participation subjects.

Development of RAW Data Storage Equipment for Operation Algorithm research of the Millimeter Wave Tracking Radar (밀리미터파 추적레이더 운용 알고리듬 연구를 위한 RAW 데이터 저장 장비 개발)

  • Recently, the tracking radar continues research to develop a new operation algorithm that can acquire and track a target in various environments. In general, modeling similar to the real target and environment is used to develop a new operation algorithm, but there is a limit to modeling the real environment. In this paper, a RAW data storage device was developed to efficiently develop a new operation algorithm required for the tracking radar using millimeter wave to acquire and track the target. The RAW data storage equipment is designed so that the signal processing device of the tracking radar using millimeter wave can save the RAW data output from 8 channels to OOOMSPS. RAW data storage equipment consists of data acquisition equipment and data storage equipment. The data acquisition equipment was implemented using a commercial Xilinx KCU 105 Evaluation KIT capable of high-speed data communication interface, and the data storage equipment was implemented by applying a computer compatible with the commercial Xilinx KCU 105 Evaluation KIT. In this paper, the performance of the implemented RAW data storage equipment was verified through repeated interlocking tests with the signal processing device of the millimeter wave tracking radar.
