  • This paper presents the characteristics of the performance parameters of dual mode(ramjet-scramjet combined) engine, inlet and combustor for wide range of flight Mach number, resulted from the analysis of its operating limitations. The transitional-critical flight Mach number from ramjet to scramjet and the performance of two types of combustors, such as constant pressure- and constant area- combustor, are conceptually evaluated.

Analysis of Sewage Plant Operation by Statistical Approach (통계방법에 의한 하수처리장 운전분석)

  • Statistical analysis between sewage plant operating parameters and the effluent quality was performed. We extracted two factors from principal component analysis of operating parameters and effluent quality from each plant. The total variance of 84.7%, 79.2% was explained by the two factors at SB plant and SC plant, respectively. The factors were identified at SB plant in the following order 1) the oxidation of organic material by aeration basin microbe,2) biomass in aeration basin and at SC plant 1) the oxidation of organic material by aeration basin microbe, 2) thickening of acti-vated sludge. These results suggested that the control of microbial composition might be critical on the improvement of the effluent quality and plant operating efficiency because most of the factors were related with microbes.

  • We conducted a sensitivity analysis of the simulated moving bed (SMB) chromatography with the case model of the separation of two amino acids phenylalanine and tryptophan. We consider a four-zone SMB chromatography where the triangle theory is used to determine the operating conditions. Competitive Langmuir isotherm model was used to determine the adsorption isotherm. The finite difference method is used to solve nonlinear partial differential equation (PDE) systems numerically. We examined the effects of alterations in the operating conditions(feed-extract, feed-raffinate, eluent-extract, eluent-raffinate, recycle, and switching time) and the adsorption isotherm parameters (Langmuir isotherm parameters a and b) on SMB efficiency. The variation range of operating conditions and Langmuir isotherm a was between -50 and 50% of original value and the variation range of the Langmuir isotherm b was between $2.25^{-5}$ and $2.25^5$ times of original value.

  • This paper was undertaken to analyze the morphology of wear debris for operating condition evaluatio of lubricated machine surfaces. The lubricating wear test was carried out under different experimental conditions using tile wear test device was made in our laboritory and wear testing spcimen of the pin on disk type was rubbed in paraffine series base oil, by varying specimen, applied load, sliding distance. The four shape parameters (50% volumetric diameter, aspect, roundness and reflectivity) to describe morphology of wear debris have been developed and are outlined in tile paper. A system using such techniques promises to obviate the need for subjective, human interpretation of particle morphology in machine condition monitoring

  • A Failure data from operating condition includes various failures. Reliability evaluation by operating condition is more correct than test condition. Additional, the evaluation result by operating condition is widely used for quality assurance, forecasting amount of manufacturing at EOL. To discover valuable things from the failure data, arrangement of the failure data and information technique to handle data is needed among many failure data. This paper introduces a reliability prediction program to solve this problem based on the failure. And new technologies for parameters estimation with method of Graphic-Wizard-Parameters-Estimation and Genetic Algorithm are introduced.

  • To evaluate the feasibility of electrodialysis for copper removal from industrial wastewater, the effect of operating parameters on the removal of copper was experimentally estimated. The limiting current density (LCD) linearly increased with the copper concentration and the flow rate. The time when the copper concentration of diluate reaches to 3 mg/L was linearly proportional to initial concentration of diluate, and the concentration of concentrate did not affect the removal rate. Increase in the flow rate gave a positive effect on the removal rate and became insignificant at flow rates greater than 2.4 L/min. The removal rate increased with the applied voltage. From the operation of the electrodialysis module used in this research, the flow rate of 2.4 L/min and the voltage corresponding to the 80~90% of LCD were found be the optimum operating condition for the copper removal from highly concentrated copper solutions.

CNC Torch Path Generation for Laser Cutting of Planar Shapes (2차원 자유형상의 레이저 절단을 위한 CNC 공구경로 생성)

  • In this paper, we propose a knowledge-based method for generating CNC torch path for laser cutting of the outlines of planar shapes. The proposed method consists of two main phases: laser cutting knowledge construction and CNC torch path generation using the knowledge. In the first phase, cutting experiments are conducted on various operating parameters, and then empirical data are stored and analyzed to make up the knowledge of laser cutting. With this knowledge, we can inquire what a kerf width is for specific operating parameters. In the second phase, using the knowledge of laser cutting, CNC torch path is generated for cutting the outlines of the given planar shapes. This phase is basically based on the offset generation of each outline by a sequence of arc splines, where the offset distance is the same as the half of the kerf width determined from the constructed knowledge. The proposed method based on laser cutting knowledge makes full use of arc interpolators in CNC torch path generation. The method can efficiently reduce the number of path segments while keeping the torch path within the desired accuracy.

  • A jet cutting system is a new concept of cutting device wihch requires high pressure up to thousands of atmospheric pressure. The use of water as a cutting medium brings in many of working advantages such as no dust, no gas, and no thermal distortion. And an introduction of abrasives into the water jet flow increases signigicantly cutting abilities and improves cutting performance. Cutting with abrasive water jet involves many operating variables, including design of the cutting system. For efficient cutting, the operating parameters have to chosen properly. In spite of several attempts to develop the cutting model theoretically, all of the optimization of the operating parameters is based upon exerimental results of each jet cutting system. In this paper, the effect of the parameters was measured and analysed in terms of pressure, abrasive, and transverse rate of a workpiece. Most of all, sufficient feeding of abrasives is the most important factor for efficient cutting performance.

A Study on Performance Comparison of COTS Operating Systems for a Mission Computer Using UAV Collision Avoidance Algorithm (무인기 충돌회피 알고리즘을 이용한 임무컴퓨터용 상용기성품 운영체계 성능 비교에 대한 연구)

  • There has been an increase in the number of researches on the segment for commercialization after developing avionics systems. In this paper, we have applied a commercial off-the-shelf(COTS) operating systems in an aircraft mission computer. We used UAV collision avoidance algorithms to compare the performance of COTS operating systems. The UAV collision avoidance algorithms were tested on different operating systems to compare the performances of the operating systems. The measured parameters are memory usage and processing time. We have verified that the UAV collision avoidance algorithms worked successfully and compared the performance of each operating system.
