  • The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic once again demonstrated how crucial it is to have unlimited access to scientific information. At the same time, the economic disparities that the pandemic revealed and aggravated made us realize that many of us cannot afford access to expert knowledge. While the international community is speculating about possible outcomes of the crisis, one can be said for sure, the pandemic accelerated many inevitable changes that would otherwise happen at a slower pace including increasing digitalization of the society and the expanding role of open data in the life of the academic community.

  • With the energy paradigm shift from supply side management to demand side management, many researches have been done on demand side resource management and demand response. At the same time, Obix, BacNet-WS and OPC-UA are popularly used in buildings and industry energy management system. However, it is not easy to interchange the data and information among the systems cause a variety of protocols are used in buildings and factories. Therefore, in this paper, we are proposing an open business platform not only to integrate and manage the demand resources using various protocols and standards, but also to allow to plug-ins a new business service on top of the platform.

  • This paper proposes an efficient method to recognize Hangeul in video open captions. The open captions in news video can play an important role in the video indexing. The strokes of Korean character have a very strong horizontal and vertical directionality and some strokes appear repeatedly in each character. Based on this characteristics, in this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm to extract the character regions in open caption and recognize the characters based on these characteristics of Korean character. The simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of our algorithm in terms of computation time and recognition accuracy.

  • The detection of open defects in CMOS SRAM has been a time consuming process. This paper proposes a new dynamic power supply current testing method to detect open defects in CMOS SRAM cells. By monitoring a dynamic current pulse during a transition write operation or a read operation, open defects can be detected. In order to measure the dynamic power supply current pulse, a current monitoring circuit with low hardware overhead is developed. Using the sensor, the new testing method does not require any additional test sequence. The results show that the new test method is very efficient compared with other testing methods. Therefore, the new testing method is very attractive.

  • This paper describes a classical algorithm carrying out dynamic 3D obstacle recognition for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), Support Vector Machines (SVMs). SVM is an efficient algorithm that was developed for recognizing 3D object in recent years. A recognition system is designed using Support Vector Machines for applying the capabilities on appearance-based 3D obstacle recognition. All of the test data are taken from OpenGL Simulation. The OpenGL which draws dynamic obstacles environment is used to carry out the experiment for the situation of three-dimension. In order to verify the performance of proposed SVMs, it compares with Back-Propagation algorithm through OpenGL simulation in view of the obstacle recognition accuracy and the time efficiency.

  • The existing urban open space system of the German cities has an exellent frame, which is a result of the long history of its developing. The beginning time of that goes back to the end of the 18th century, as pri-vate gardens of feudal lords and the nobility became more and more public and public open space plannedwas appearing. Through the change from the feudal age to the civil society, the people's values on the urbanopenspace were growing. so that it had more social meanings. Since the Industrial Revolution in the secondhalf of the 19th century the environment of cities was getting miserable, what was the important cause ofthe birth of ideas and concepts of the urban open space type and its system. The fo1lowing concepts are they. which have influenced modern open space concepts of the cities InGermany decisively :'Garden Cities'.'Neighborhood'. 'The Model of Mohring, Eberstadt and Petersen','The Model of Langen'. "The Classified City','The Classified and Loosened City'etc.

  • In this study, improvements for error correction, speed, position, and rotation calculation algorithms have been proposed to be used in resolver to digital conversion (RDC) systems. The proposed open-loop system drives the resolver and uses the output signals of the resolver signal to estimate the real time position, the instant speed, and the rotation count with high resolution and accuracy even at high speeds and noise. The proposed solution implements strong features of both closed and open loop based systems while eliminating their weak points. The improvements proposed is resistant to noise owing to digital FIR filter and data averaging techniques. The implementation used for proof of concept is implemented on a hardware using an FPGA and configurable to be used by any resolver.

  • In this paper, a fault diagnosis algorithm for brushless DC (BLDC) motor drives is proposed to maintain control performance under switch open-damage. The proposed fault diagnosis algorithm consists of a simple algorithm using measured phase current information and it detects open-circuit faults based on the operating characteristic of BLDC motors. The proposed algorithm quickly recovers control performance due to its short detection time and its reconfiguration of the system topology. It can be embedded into existing BLDC drive software as a subroutine without additional sensors. The feasibility of the proposed fault diagnosis algorithm is proven by simulation and experimental results.

  • This study examines how open-ended tasks can be implemented with the support of redefined learning goals and teaching practices from a student-centered perspective. In order to apply open-ended tasks, learning goals should be adopted by individual student's cognitive levels in the classroom context rather than by designated goals from curriculum. Equitable opportunities to share children's mathematical ideas are also attainable through flexible management of lesson-time. Eventually, students can foster their meta-cognition in the process of abstraction of what they've learned through discussions facilitated by teachers. A pedagogical implication for professional development is that teachers need to improve additional teaching practices such as how to tailor tasks relevant to their classroom context and how to set norms for students to appreciate peer's mathematical ideas in the discussions.
