Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors influencing health promoting behavior of the late school age children and to analyze the difference of health promoting behavior according to personal factors of children. Methods: The subjects consisted of 169 school-aged children in the 6th grade in Gyeonggi-do. Data were collected from Dec. 1 to Dec. 10, 2008. The data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and Stepwise multiple regression with the SPSS/WIN 12.0 program. Results: 1) Health promoting behavior was proved to be relatively high. The average item score for the health promoting behavior was $3.85{\pm}.41$. The highest degree of health promoting behavior was stress management (4.13). whereas the one with the lowest degree was exercise (3.40). 2) In the relationship between personal factors and health promoting behavior, there were statistically significant differences in gender, perceived health status, family mood, father's drinking habits, school performance, school satisfaction. 3) Health promoting behavior was showed significant positive correlations with perceived self-efficacy (r=.55), social support (r=.65), prior related behaviors (r=.44), perceived benefits of action (r=.42), and significant negative correlations with perceived barriers of action (r=-.37). 4) Stepwise multiple regression analysis was revealed that the most powerful predictor of health promoting behavior was social support ($\beta$=0.36) Conclusion: The combination of social support, perceived self-efficacy, perceived benefits of action, gender, and family mood accounted for 57.8% of the variance in the health promoting behavior of the late school age children.
The purpose of this paper was to analyze a teacher's questioning in the learner-centered mathematics lessons and investigate its effects on the construction of learner's knowledge. For this study, it is analysed that the teacher's questioning in the 3 observed learner-centered lessons concerning elementary division topic. The study results showed that the characteristics of the teacher's questioning were respecting of learner's informal mathematical thinking, open-ended questioning for divergent thinking, appropriate questioning at every group, and respecting classroom norm. Teacher's questioning affects the quality of learner's mathematical thinking and his or her attitude toward mathematics.
This study analyzed the effect of parent-child communication and peer relationship on children's internet addiction. The subjects were 642 elementary school students living in Daejeon city. Cronbach's $\alpha$, t-test, ANOVA, and Duncan's test were employed in analyzing the data by using SPSS 10.0. The findings of this study were as follows First, the boys were more addicted to internet use than the girls, as were the children of less educated parents. The children of parents with professional careers were less addicted to the internet. The children who perceived their school achievements as low were more addicted to the internet. Second, the children who spent more time daily, longer time at once and more frequently per weekly internet use were more addicted. Third, internet addiction was influenced tv parent-child communication and peer relationship. Boys who had more problem communications with their parents less open communication with their mother and a lower level of peer support were more addicted to the internet. The problem of communication with their mother and conflict in their peer relationship had more influence on the internet addiction of girls.
The purpose of this research was to elucidate the relevance of the area of home economics in practical arts (technology & home economics) curriculum to green growth education, finding applicable cases of green growth education content in the field of home economics education. Given this base, we performed a survey with people who majored in home economics education and elementary school teachers on how green growth education related to their education. We studied applied cases and performed a survey by open-ended questions that extracts the green growth education content. In synthesizing the results of these studies so far, we have concluded that home economics education is much related to green growth education, and that with a change of people's conceptions when relating school life to household life, home economics can be a very useful subject that can lead to the practice of the green growth education.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: While the use of food additives in food processing has become a common practice worldwide, consumers' worry about potential hazards has not diminished. The purpose of this study was to identify trends in South Korean parents' perceptions about food additives by analyzing the results of surveys conducted from 2014 to 2018. SUBJECTS/METHODS: We conducted an off-line survey in Korea annually between 2014 and 2018 on perceptions about food additives. The numbers of survey respondents in each year from 2014 to 2018 were 381, 426, 301, 519, and 369, respectively. Our consumer respondents were parents of elementary-school-aged children. RESULTS: The ratios of respondents perceiving "food safety" as the most important factor in purchasing processed foods and "food additives" as the biggest threat to food safety have decreased over the years. However, most consumers still have negative perceptions of food additives. Additionally, among consumers lower confidence in or trust of the Korean government continued throughout the study period and appeared to be the main problem that needs to be overcome. CONCLUSIONS: This study found that Korean parents are still troubled by food additives. Consumers' confidence in the government needs to be increased through public communications. More multifaceted educational programs communicating scientific knowledge of food additives are needed in order to correct consumers' misperceptions.
These days, as Interest in Image recognition with deep learning is increasing, there has been a lot of research in image recognition using deep learning. In this study, we propose a system for classifying rocks through rock images of 18 types of rock(6 types of igneous, 6 types of metamorphic, 6 types of sedimentary rock) which are addressed in the high school curriculum, using CNN model based on Tensorflow, deep learning open source framework. As a result, we developed a classifier to distinguish rocks by learning the images of rocks and confirmed the classification performance of rock classifier. Finally, through the mobile application implemented, students can use the application as a learning tool in classroom or on-site experience.

The purpose of this study was to identify the current status of ethics education in science and technology for pre-service science teachers and find out their recognition on the needs for ethics education at school. A survey was administered for this study and a total of 594 pre-service science teachers studying in college/university of education participated. The survey was organized to examine participants' 1) experience in ethics education in science and technology, 2) recognition on the needs of ethics education in science and technology, and 3) the need for it in elementary and secondary school. Each item was responded using either 1 to 5 Likert type scale, multiple choices, or open questionnaires. The results showed that 37.4% of participants obtain science technology information from the mass media, and 23.5% from the school education. Only 8.4% of the participants had the experience of taking class on ethics in science and technology. In terms of level of confidence in understanding the ethical issues in science and technology, the average response was 2.73. However, their perception on the needs of the ethics education ranges from 3.34 to 4.58, which is much stronger than other responses on average. This strong perception on the needs was much higher for pre-service science teachers for elementary school, than those of the secondary school(p<.05). All participants recognized the need for ethics education in science and technology at both elementary and secondary school. In responses for which subject should provide ethical issues on science and technology, science class was most frequently suggested (62.4%), followed by ethics class (29.1%). In responses for the most efficient form of learning, they suggested that case studies (43.5%), followed by discussions (41.4%) would be an efficient way to learn. Even in the responses of open questionnaires asking for efficient ways of learning ethical issues, participants suggested that discussions on various ethical issues on the cases in the science and technology would provide practical and substantial learning.

Urban nature plays an important role not only in the improvement of the physical environment but also from the perspective of psychological and social function. In particular, schoolyards as well as the green spaces near school surroundings function as a primary space for urban children to experience nature in Korea, as they spend most of their time at school. In this study, the status of urban green spaces near school surroundings was examined. For the analysis, 185 elementary schools in Seoul were selected and the green spaces within a radius of 300m(defined as 'school zone' in this study) were analyzed using the Rapid Eye multispectral satellite image data. The mean green space ratio of school zone accounts to about 21% with a high variation from 74% to 0.7% and more than half of the school zone have a green space ratio of less than 20%. Schools with a high green space ratio in their school zone are mostly located near urban forests, so forest areas particularly contribute to increase the green space ratio. Furthermore, forest vegetation shows relatively higher vitality than other green spaces located in urbanized areas. In contrast, schools with a low green space ratio in their school zone are mostly situated in high-density residential areas and the green spaces show relatively low vegetation vitality. Except for the urban forest, the majority of urban green spaces in urbanized areas are landscape green facilities in apartment districts. The other types of urban open spaces such as environmentally shaped schoolyards or street parks account only for a very small proportion of school surroundings. Therefore, it is needed to establish countermeasures in the context of urban planning; e.g. to promote the school forest projects preferentially by selecting schools with a extremely low green space ratio in their school zone, to foster roof greening in near surroundings, and to connect schoolyards organically with nearby apartment landscape green facilities as an easily accessible urban open space.
Objective: This study aimed to report the level of extremely low frequency-magnetic field (ELF-MF) emitted by portable hand-held fans (HHF) and to discuss the methodologies for determining the health risk of ELF-MF for HHF products. Method: ELF-MF was monitored at eight locations by distances in the vicinity of HHFs. A total of 13 HHF brands on the market were randomly selected. A portable ELF-MF monitor MDEX II was used to measure the ELF-MF level in the range of 40-800 Hz with a resolution of $0.01{\mu}T$. This study also examined the frequency results of a total of 45 HHF products investigated by the Korean Ministry of Science and ICT (KMSICT). Results: ELF-MF higher than $0.3{\mu}T$ was found to be emitted at a distance of less than 20 cm from 12 HHF. ELF-MF emitted from four products was found to exceed the reference level ($83.3{\mu}T$ based on 60 Hz) recommended by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). KMSIT reported that the principle frequency emitted from the HHFs ranged from 54 Hz to 284 kHz, without the level of LEF-MF. Unscientifically, the KMSICT used the reference level by ICNIRP as the chronic level and concluded that all HHFs are safe with a basis of 1.2-36.0% less than the reference level. Conclusion: The HHF emitted much higher levels of ELF-MF than $0.3-0.4{\mu}T$, which is regarded as the reference level for childhood leukemia. The risk of HHF should be examined in terms of whether they can be used by the general public, including children and pregnant woman.

The purpose of this study was to explore the elements of teaching behavior and classify instructional types through the teacher's classroom observation in elementary school science classrooms. 18 elementary school teachers were selected at Seoul city and Kyungkido. The topic of lesson was 'How the weight of object is changed according to the shape to sink in the water'. Each class was recorded and analyzed that. The teaching behavior elements were used inductional analysis method. The instruction types were classified into instructional organization, teaching strategies in teaching-learning processes, the level of openness of inquiry at science classroom. The validity and reliability of the data were analyzed by 7 science educators. The results of the analysis of the teachers discourse showed that there are 23 types of teaching behavior elements. Used teaching behavior elements revealed the differences from each teacher. There were 7 types among the 12 types of class and the most common types of instruction were unsystematic, teacher-centered, and guided-inquiry. The result showed that guided inquiry type was found more than open inquiry type and teacher-centered instructional, content-centered instructional, superficial inquiry process showed characteristic.
