  • Ontological knowledge modelling of epic texts, though being an established research arena backed by concrete multilingual and multicultural works, still suffers from two key shortcomings. Firstly, all epic ontological models developed till date have been designed following ad-hoc methodologies, most often combining existing general purpose ontology development methodologies. Secondly, none of the ad-hoc methodologies consider the potential reuse of existing epic ontological models for enrichment, if available. This paper presents, as a unified solution to the above shortcomings, the design and development of GOMME - the first dedicated methodology for iterative ontological modelling of epics, potentially extensible to works in different research arenas of digital humanities in general. GOMME is grounded in transdisciplinary foundations of canonical norms for epics, knowledge modelling best practices, application satisfiability norms, and cognitive generative questions. It is also the first methodology (in epic modelling but also in general) to be flexible enough to integrate, in practice, the options of knowledge modelling via reuse or from scratch. The feasibility of GOMME is validated via a first brief implementation of ontological modelling of the Indian epic Mahabharata by reusing an existing ontology. The preliminary results are promising, with the GOMME-produced model being both ontologically thorough and competent performance-wise.

  • Methodology of ontology building based on Web resources will not only reduce significantly the ontology construction period, but also enhance the quality of the ontology. Remarkable progress has been achieved in this regard, but they encounter similar difficulties, such as the Web data extraction and knowledge acquisition. This paper researches on the characteristics of ontology construction data, including dynamics, largeness, variation and openness and other features, and the fundamental issue of ontology construction - formalized representation method. Then, the key technologies used in and the difficulties with ontology construction are summarized. A software Model-OntoMaker (Ontology Maker) is designed. The model is innovative in two regards: (1) the improvement of generality: the meta learning machine will dynamically pick appropriate ontology learning methodologies for data of different domains, thus optimizing the results; (2) the merged processing of (semi-) structural and non-structural data. In addition, as known to all wetland researchers, information sharing is vital to wetland exploitation and protection, while wetland ontology construction is the basic task for information sharing. OntoMaker constructs the wetland ontologies, and the model in this work can also be referred to other environmental domains.

  • With the personal-media development that has emerged through various means such as UCC and SNS, many media studies have been completed for the purposes of analysis and recognition, thereby improving the object-recognition level. The focus of these studies is a classification of media that is based on a recognition of the corresponding objects, rather than the use of the title, tag, and scripter information. The media-classification task, however, is intensive in terms of the consumption of time and energy because human experts need to model the underlying media ontology. This paper therefore proposes an automated approach for the modeling of the media-classification ontology schema; here, the OWL-DL Axiom that is based on the frequency of the recognized media-based objects is considered, and the automation of the ontology modeling is described. The authors conducted media-classification experiments across 15 YouTube-video categories, and the media-classification accuracy was measured through the application of the automated ontology-modeling approach. The promising experiment results show that 1500 actions were successfully classified from 15 media events with an 86 % accuracy.

  • Ontologies are the core components of the Semantic Web and knowledge-based systems. But it is difficult to find useful ontologies in actual domains. In order to build useful domain ontology, the conceptualization of the domain knowledge by knowledge experts of the specific domain and the specification of conceptualized knowledge with formal languages by ontology designers are required. In addition, structured and detailed guidelines and methods should be provided to be shared by the development team members. However, existing ontology building methodologies define and describe the skeletal structure of the whole building process at the top-layer. We build a useful academic ontology that is based on the conceptual knowledge structure in the domain of philosophy, and propose a detailed methodology to build a text ontology based on Topic Maps. Our methodology consists of two phases, ontology modelling and ontology implementation. We implement a philosophy knowledge portal to support retrieving and navigating of the philosophy knowledge.

  • In a variety of network environments, the provision of context-aware services, it is difficult to integrate and share because of the heterogeneity problem between distributed data. This paper proposes the integration model using the ontology as a method for solving the above. This uses an ontology to integrate the context-aware informations that are collected. The ontology is generated by the acquisition, semantic analysis and inference of the metadata of the context-aware information. This is the basis of the analysis and analysis of the additional system. Accordingly, this paper studies ways to create an ontology and apply them. The advantage of the proposed scheme can be used without modifying the existing tools, it is possible to easily perform the expansion and consolidation of the system.

  • Vertical farming is one of the important solutions to overcome future food and population problems. However, underdeveloped countries can't afford due to high initial investment costs and technical huddles. To solve this problem, it is necessary to formalize the vertical farming area using ontology. In this paper, we present an ontology that includes various cultivation methods of vertical farming, connects sensors and actuates according to the methods, and recognizes and controls the cultivation environment context of the selected vertical fanning, we expect to be able to autonomously make control decisions about the context by analyzing the environmental context that is important for perceived vertical cultivation using the logical reasoning function of ontology.

  • In this paper, we suggest a fish drug domain ontology to show an associated information and hierarchy together through concept-relation and inference mechanism instead of keyword matching. First, we investigate competency questions from workers of fishery industry and then we derive concepts and terminologies. Next, we present a process of fish drug ontology modelling using Protege-OWL editor, which is an extension of Protege that supports the Web Ontology Language(OWL). Last, we suggest the user interface of semantic web-based fish drug information system to search easily associated informations of fish drug using this ontology. It is to provide an effective search method that fish disease manager, fish farmer, and students majoring in fisheries can confirm details of diseases, fish, and drug evaluations associated with fish drug within one screen without moving to another position.

  • At present, for reuse of similar domains between feature model and class model. researches of transformation at the model level and of transformation using ontology between two models are being made. but consistent transformation through metamodel is not made. And the factors of modeling transformation targets are not sufficient, and especially, automatic transformation algorithm and supporting tools are not provided so reuse of domains between models is not activated. This paper proposes a method of transformation from feature model to class model using ontology on the metamodel. For this, it re-establishes the metamodel of feature model, class model, and ontology, and it defines the properties of modelling factors for each metamodel. Based on the properties, it defines the profiles of transformation rules between feature mndel and ontology, and between ontology and class model, using set theory and propositional calculus. For automation of the transformation, it creates transformation algorithm and supporting tools. Using the proposed transformation rules and tools, real application is made through Electronic Approval System. Through this, it is possible to transform from the existing constructed feature model to the class model and to use it again for a different development method. Especially, it is Possible to remove ambiguity of semantic transformation using ontology, and automation of transformation maintains consistence between models.

  • It is very important to understand system behaviors in collective pattern for each knowledge domain. However, there are structural limitations to represent collective behaviors because of the size of system components and the complexity of their interactions, causing the state explosion problem. Further composition with other systems is mostly impractical because of exponential growth of their size and complexity. This paper presents a practical method to model the collective behaviors, based on a new concept of domain engineering: behavior ontology. Firstly, the ontology defines each collective behavior of a system from active ontology. Secondly, the behaviors are formed in a quantifiably abstract lattice, called common regular expression. Thirdly, a lattice can be composed with other lattices based on quantifiably common elements. The method can be one of the most innovative approaches in representing system behaviors in collective pattern, as well as in minimization of system states to reduce system complexity. For implementation, a prototype tool, called PRISM, has been developed on ADOxx Meta-Modelling Platform.
