  • Ontology can be used as a formal and demonstrative knowledgebase that can express the thinking process of human. Software Development Process is a collection of ideal practices and procedural system that is performed by mature organization with high capability. Due to complexity of process, however, Software development Process often results in obstruction of introducing and improving simple process activity. While introducing and improving software development process, application of ontology to complex software development process is more approachable by showing deductive results of relationship between ISO/IEC 15504 and CMMI. In this paper, we demonstrate a methodology that utilizes the improved process database conceptually mapping between ISO/IEC 15504 and CMMI using ontology.

  • The amount of sources of information available on the web using ontologies as support continues to increase and is often heterogeneous and distributed. Ontology alignment is the solution to ensure semantic interoperability. In this paper, we describe a new ontology alignment approach, which consists of combining structure-based and reasoning-based approaches in order to discover new semantic correspondences between entities of different ontologies. We used the biblio test of the benchmark series and anatomy series of the Ontology Alignment Evaluation Initiative (OAEI) 2012 evaluation campaign to evaluate the performance of our approach. We compared our approach successively with LogMap and YAM++ systems. We also analyzed the contribution of our method compared to structural and semantic methods. The results obtained show that our performance provides good performance. Indeed, these results are better than those of the LogMap system in terms of precision, recall, and F-measure. Our approach has also been proven to be more relevant than YAM++ for certain types of ontologies and significantly improves the structure-based and reasoningbased methods.

  • In the manufacturing system, production-planning is very important in effective management for expensive production facilities and machineries. To enhance efficiency of Manufacturing Execution System(MES), a manufacturing system that reduces the difference between planning and execution, certain production-planning needs a dispatching rule that is properly designed for characteristic of work information and there should be a appropriate selection for the rule as well. Therefore, in this paper dispatching rule will be selected by several simulations based on characteristics of work information derived from process planning data. By constructing information that are from simulation into ontology, one of the knowledge-based-reasoning, production planning platform based on the selection of dispatching rule will be demonstrated. The platform has strength in its wider usage that is not limited to where it is applied. To demonstrate the platform, RacerPro and Prot$\acute{e}$g$\acute{e}$ are used in parts of ontology reasoning, and JAVA and FlexChart were applied for production-planning simulation.

  • One of the major issues in the field of corporate training and formal education is the support of personalized learning. Successful personalized learning needs the availability of the relevant learning contents at just-in-time for learners each. The competency is one of personal characteristics. So competency-based learning is one of the methods that fulfill the above need. Successful competency-based learning needs the method that recommends the relevant contents for the user's deficient competency based on the user's current competency and objectives. We assume that there exists a student information system that provides each user's competences and objectives as fields of a LIP/ePortfolio-compliant student information. This paper proposes an ontology-based system that, given the user's competences and objectives from the above student informaton system, recommends the relevant contents among a large number of educational contents using competency ontology and domain ontology. The advantage of this system can easily handle the change of competency map and terms related with competences in student information and education contents.

  • This paper proposes a design and realization for the semantic search system. The proposed model includes three Architecture Layers of a Semantic Search System ; (they are conceptually named as) the Knowledge Acquisition, the Knowledge Representation and the Knowledge Utilization. Each of these three Layers are designed to interactively work together, so as to maximize the users' information needs. The Knowledge Acquisition Layer includes index and storage of Semantic Metadata from various source of web contents(eg : text, image, multimedia and so on). The Knowledge Representation Layer includes the ontology schema and instance, through the process of semantic search by ontology based query expansion. Finally, the Knowledge Utilization Layer includes the users to search query intuitively, and get its results without the users'knowledge of semantic web language or ontology. So far as the design and the realization of the semantic search site is concerned, the proposedsemantic search system will offer useful implications to the researchers and practitioners so as to improve the research level to the commercial use.

  • As the amount of knowledge information significantly increases, a lot of progress has been made in the studies focusing on how to reason large scale ontology effectively at the level of RDFS or OWL. These reasoning methods are divided into TBox classifications and ABox realizations. A TBox classification mainly deals with integrity and dependencies in schema, whereas an ABox realization mainly handles a variety of issues in instances. Therefore, the ABox realization is very important in practical applications. In this paper, we propose a realization method for analyzing the constraint of the specified class, so that the reasoning system automatically infers the classes to which instances belong. Unlike conventional methods that take advantage of the object oriented language based distributed file system, we propose a large scale ontology reasoning method using spark, which is a functional programming-based in-memory system. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, we used instances created from the Wine ontology by W3C(120 to 600 million triples). The proposed system processed the largest 600 million triples and generated 951 million triples in 51 minutes (696 K triple / sec) in our largest experiment.

  • Ontology has many merits such as high expression power and extensibility etc. and there are some suggestion on development of ubiquitous environment using ontology. For collecting and analysing the context information in ubiquitous environment, we need a context-awareness system. For these reason, some context-awareness systems have been developed using ontology, but they have insufficient representation power of context information and are independent to domain. In this paper, we define the context type to improve the extensibility of context framework, and develop the context ontology adopting the defined contort type to represent or inference various context information. We define the ontology to be easily adopted the and domain. Also, we use SWRL to represent numerical formulas and Horn-Logic expression.

  • To develop an intelligent search engine to help users retrieve information effectively, various methods, such as Semantic Web, have been used, An effective retrieval method of such methods uses ontology technology. In this paper, we built National R&D ontology after analyzing National R&D Information in NTIS and then implemented National R&D Knowledge Map to represent and retrieve information of the relationship between object and subject (project, human information, organization, research result) in R&D Ontology. In the National R&D Knowledge Map, center-node is the object selected by users, node is subject, subject's sub-node is user's favorite query in National R&D ontology after analyzing the relationship between object and subject. When a user selects sub-node, the system displays the results from inference engine after making query by SPARQL in National R&D ontology.

  • In this paper, we propose Context-based Music Recommendation (COMUS) ontology for modeling user's musical preferences and context and for supporting reasoning about the user's desired emotion and preferences. The COMUS provides an upper Music Ontology that captures concepts about the general properties of music such as title, artists and genre and also provides extensibility for adding domain-specific ontologies, such as Mood and Situation, in a hierarchical manner. The COMUS is music dedicated ontology in OWL constructed by incorporating domain specific classes for music recommendation into the Music Ontology. Using this context ontology, we believe that the use of logical reasoning by checking the consistency of context information, and reasoning over the high-level, implicit context from the low-level, explicit information. As a novelty, our ontology can express detailed and complicated relations among the music, moods and situations, enabling users to find appropriate music for the application. We present some of the experiments we performed as a case-study for music recommendation.

  • To enhance the rule-based reasoning capability of Semantic Web, the XRML (eXtensible Rule Markup Language) approach embraces the meta-information necessary for the extraction of explicit rules from Web pages and its maintenance. To effectuate the automatic identification of rules from unstructured texts, this research develops a framework of using rule ontology. The ontology can be acquired from a similar site first, and then can be used for multiple sites in the same domain. The procedure of ontology-based rule identification is regarded as a graph search problem with incomplete nodes, and an A* algorithm is devised to solve the problem. The procedure is demonstrated with the domain of shipping rates and return policy comparison portal, which needs rule based reasoning capability to answer the customer's inquiries. An example ontology is created from Amazon.com, and is applied to the many online retailers in the same domain. The experimental result shows a high performance of this approach.
