  • The purpose of this study is to visualize the characteristics of ER fluids as preceding step of developing 3 port ER valves. As the strength of the electric field increases, more clusters in flow are made and these clusters are thought to be the reasons of the load flow rate being increased and the outlet flow rate being decreased. The ER Valves and load and outlet flow rate check method are considered to be applied to the fluid power control system. Using the manufactured pressure control valve, a one-link manipulator with FHA in robot system is driven. As a result, it is experimentally confirmed that the pressure control valve using ER fluids is applicable to use in driving actuator. If it applies characteristics of the ER fluids, it will be able to apply in the control system for the ER Valve which occurs from industrial controller(PLC).

  • This paper suggests a numerical method to find optimal geometric path and minimum-time motion for a spatial 6-link manipulator arm (PUMA 560 type). To find a minimum-time motion, the optimal geometric paths minimizing 2 different dynamic performance indices are searched first, and the minimum-time motions are searched on these optimal paths. In the algorithm to find optimal geometric paths, the objective functions (performance indices) are selected to minimize joint velocities, actuator forces or the combinations of them as well as to avoid one static obstacle. In the minimum-time algorithm the traveling time is expressed by the power series including 21 terms. The coefficients of the series are obtained using nonlinear programming to minimize the total traveling time subject to the constraints of velocity-dependent actuator forces.

  • In this paper, by using pseudo-inverse matrix of the spatial redundant flexible manipulators, a position control method and its effect in vibration suppression was presented. Vibration suppression control was developed using lumped mass spring model of the flexible manipulators. With 2 elastic links and 7 rotory joint manipulator ADAM, (1)position control for no redundancy, and (2)position control for one redundant DOF(degree of freedom) were tested. The objective of this experiment is to show the effect of position control, using pseudo-inverse matrix. toward the improvement of operation, and at the same time, to reduce the vibration of the link and the magnitude of the joint torque.

  • In this paper, we propose hybrid control method of neural network using the 3-point search algorithm. Proposed control method is searched the weight using the 3-point search algorithm for off-line then control the on-line. In order to verify the usefulness of the proposed method, we simulated the proposed control method with one link manipulator system and confirmed the excellency.

  • In this paper, the robust stability of characteristic polynomials with respect to real parameter variations is investigated through a new functional approach. Specifically there is no restriction on the interrelationship between coefficients of the polynomials. This allows one to treat the robust stability problems alike without distinction as to continuous or discrete time systems. Necessary condition and sufficient condition for the robust stability are shown and some examples extracted from two-link planar manipulator are provided.

  • In the course of robot control system building, there are problems in the position control loop of 3rd axis of robot manipulator. The problems are summerized as two: one is uncontrollability of position and the other is oscillation. And these problems are analyzed through experiment, and it is known that the cause of problems in torsional vibration of 3rd axis. So that these two problems are solved by noise immunity enhancement and lowering of PI controller gain.

  • In this paper a adaptive backstepping control scheme is proposed for control of a do motor driving a one-link manipulator. Fuzzy logic systems are used to approximate the unknown nonlinear function including the parametric uncertainty and disturbance throughout the entire electromechanical system. A compensation controller is also proposed to estimate the bound of approximation error. Thus the asymptotic stability of the closed-loop control system can be obtained. Numerical simulations are included to show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

  • In this paper, a new kinematic structure of a parallel manipulator with six Cartesian degrees of freedom is proposed. It consists of a platform which is connected to a fixed base by means of 3-PPSP(parameters P, S denote the prismatic, spherical joints) subchains. Each subchain has a link which is concected to a passive prismatic joint at the one end and a passive spherical joint at the other. The spherical joint is then attached to perpendicularly arranged prismatic actuators which are fixed at the base. The spherical joint is then attached to perpendicularly arranged prismatic actuators which are fixed at the base. This arrangement provides a basis to control all six Cartesian degrees of motion of the platform in space. Due to its efficient architecture, the colsed-form solutions of the inverse and forward kinematics can be obtained. As a consequence, this new kinematic structure can be servo controlled using simple inverse kinematics becaese forward kinematics allows for measuring the platform's position and orientation in Cartesian space. Furthermore, the proposed structure provides an effective functional workspace. Series of simulations are performed to verify the results of the kinematics analyses.

  • With the prevalent use of robot, the interests in moving speed of robot have been increasing for the purpose of upgrading performance of production. But the faster robot manipulator moves, the worse working accuracies are. And mechanical vibration is more and more serious with the increment of the moving speed of robot. So, the study on the cause and control method of robot vibration is one of the points of issue in robotics. This paper focuses on the vibration of 3 DOF parallel link drive mechanism robot. We assume that links of robot manipulator are `rigid' and joints are `flexible elements'. Governing equations of robot system including controller, servo amplifier, D.C servo motor, transmission with elasticity, and manipulator dynamics are derived. On the basis of modelling, we define `controller stiffness' by the proportional gain of controller and `stiffness of transmission'. Numerical and experimental research is performed to study vibration phenomena of robot induced from the variation of these two defined stiffnesses, and its results are shown.

  • A simulation analysis is presented for the position control of a single-link flexible manipulator whose end-effector is subjected to an impulsive force. Arm is rotated by a d.c. servomotor at the shoulder so that the end point stays precisely at its initial position even if the end effector is thumped with the impulsive loading. A gap sensor is used to measure the tip displacement. The control torque based on the PD control law is applied to the motor through the driver circuit. The control strategy is tested by means of computer simulation for the one-link flexible-arm prototype in the authers' laboratory at Tohoku Univ.
